Common Questions and Answers about Stress disorder of instincts or reflexes

stress

Avatar f tn I have been through an extremely stressful 9 months. It all began when I was under a moderate amount of stress, but the physical symptoms have greatly increased my stress.
Avatar n tn Had nerve conduction test, blood work-up, MRI of neck and brain, etc. Brisk reflexes in knees, limited reflexes in ankles, normal nerve conduction, normal MRI. Neurologist, unable to determine cause, diagnosed idiopathic peripheral neuropathy & started me on Gabapentin. Over the last few years that dosage has increased slightly, to a total of 1500 mg./night which enables me to sleep decently about 5 out of 7 nights a week, but doesn't deal with continued daytime symptoms.
Avatar m tn Hi Elvis and welcome, MS is one of the top 3 medical issues that people with Health Anxiety-Somatic symptom disorder-Hypochondria (etc) fear and hyper focus onto, the reality is there are hundreds of much more common causes of the majority of symptoms associated with MS, which basically means that even if you didn't have a medical related mental health issue, the likely hood of this being caused by a neurological condition like MS is unlikely compared to all the other more likely causes!
Avatar f tn I am a 36 year old female. In May I had severe nausea/exhaustion and was quite ill. I had a colonoscopy the following month (June), and it came back fine. Right after this I began experiencing extreme fasciculations and weakness. This continued for two weeks, and then I had an EMG, which came back clean. Reflexes were normal. I noticed my right foot toes looked thin and spread apart, and then my entire foot/ankle began to look this way. I noticed my right hand looking thinner as well.
233622 tn?1279334905 La - 3+ reflexes are considered brisk, but still within the range of normal. Lots of things make reflexes brisk. Anxiety, stimulant meds like caffeine, hyperthryoidism are common ones. There is nothing to worry about 3+ reflexes. 4+ and 4+ with clonus (extra rhythmic movements) are considered pathological.
Avatar m tn At this point it's hard to say what's causing your numbness, but it could be caused by any number of things. Usually it's damage or compression of the spinal cord or the nerves coming from the spinal cord.
1597714 tn?1299828089 Hyperreflexia means overresposive reflexes which could include twitching, suggest upper motor neuron disease, hypernatremia, stroke, brain tumor, spinal cord injury, etc. causes of increased tone of lower limbs are cervical spinal cord injury or tumor, cervical spondylosis, multiple sclerosis, upper motor neuron disorder. Confide in your dad and help him by being around for his neurologist’s office visit. You are very welcome with any further posts on this forum. Take care.
317019 tn?1532965586 I knew I was having a boy even before I got a BFP!! It's just a strong feeling and I didn't even look at girl names or girl clothes.
Avatar n tn The neurologist did a nerve conduction test, ordered a complete blood work-up, MRI of neck and brain, etc. I had hyper reflexes in my knees, limited reflexes in my ankles, normal nerve conduction, and a normal brain MRI. The neurologist, unable to determine what was wrong, chalked it up to idiopathic peripheral neuropathy and started me on Gabapentin at night. Over the last few years that dosage has increased slightly, to a total of 1500 mg.
Avatar n tn Absent any neurological thing the docs ain't thought of yet -I vote panic and anxiety. I could be wrong. But my experience is this: even though I have been done with and over with panic for over 5 years, with nary a hint of a return, I still have those spasmo things that drive me NUTZ. See my pic? See the choo-choo? See the bridge it runs over? And then see my other train pix, with trestles and such. All of this I built by hand (except the locos).
Avatar m tn and my hard drive fills up quickly, so that is like information just bounces off. mostly in situations with a lot of commotion or background noise, but even just talking with my doctor can get overwhelming.
Avatar n tn However she displays all other normal reflexes like pulling away when touching something hot or with a thorn ***** etc. She is generally in perfect health and has no other symptoms of anything else at all. What could the cause of this be?
Avatar n tn I really prefer not to undergo anymore tests if not necessary. Did you have a virus or unusual amount of stress in your life when this crept up on you?
Avatar n tn This is all very worrisome, and being an anxious person is not helping the matter. What can this be a result of? Is it simple stress, or can something more serious be happening? Any help is appreciated, thank you very much everyone!
1896537 tn?1381900009 Just out of interest, when your doctor/neuro check's your reflexes etc, were they 'normal'? My neurologist noted my leg reflxes were on the brisk side and I have Babinski's sign on my left side. I haven't yet been diagnosed with MS (just had the one episode so far) but I guess abnormal reactions are to expected in any of us if our nervous system's have been disrupted?
Avatar f tn on left face and side. Did a lot of guessing that it might be this or could be that at my last visit. My fam doc is in contact w NS. She was preparing me to expect the possibility of NS not having any answers for me, even after more cats, and mri s.
Avatar f tn I do have some knowledge about anxiety though. Whether your son is suffering from anxiety or stress is irrelevant - I think you are asking if your son suffers from an anxiety disorder and I doubt that very much. But yes, I suspect he is suffering from anxiety/stress from the impending change. It's too early to know if the counseling program is working; if not, perhaps the school or your son's pediatrician could offer a suggestion to better help this child .
4835896 tn?1369369421 I'm so stressed out , I cry all the time . It really scares me that my baby could be born with some type of disorder . I'm 18 weeks so I haven't had my anatomy scan yet , is this possible ?
Avatar f tn Also people have said morning vomiting was a sign of a tumor and during week 2 of my stress 24/7 phase I did vomit twice in the mornings and on the 3rd I held back the urge to vomit and I haven't felt morning nasuea si
393942 tn?1315560152 A Somatization Disorder is a type of a Somatoform Disorder. Other Somatoform Disorders include Conversion Disorder, Hypochondriasis, and so on. Please be very careful about this diangosis. I have heard from many people who have been misdiangosed with a somatoform disorder who actually had an "organic" dissease. I am sure that I would have been diagnosed with a somatoform disorder if I had not insisted that doctors persue a neurological explanation for my symptoms.
979826 tn?1389036358 Hi Molly...yes I do, I did have it tho prior to surgery tho too...so not sure if that helps...but is a sign of chiari to have brisk reflexes....
Avatar m tn Sorry to hear about this. The anxiety can most likely be controlled without medications. The rest might need a doctors attention. I will copy/paste some tips/techniques that I have used to control my panic attacks and I used to have TERRIBLE panic attacks. Good luck. Ok, there are pre panic tips and full panic tips. Let's start with the pre panic tips. A rubber band around the wrist can help if you use it before the anxiety turns into an anxiety attack.
Avatar f tn I think hyper reflexes are just an indication of damage to the cns and the neuro tests your reflexes to get an idea of whether something's going on within the cns. Mine are too brisk too...when I first read that in my neuro notes I naively thought it was a good thing that I had such lightening-fast reflexes! I know otherwise now...oh I must say though that mine were actually a bit slow at my last check up so I guess it can change.
Avatar m tn Putting all your symptoms together, including transient sensory symptoms, erectile dysfunction, whole body twitching, in the setting of extensive normal testing, one consideration would be stress, anxiety and/or depression which can lead to a vareity of physical symptoms without an identifiable cause.
Avatar m tn I have NF type 1 and because of very brisk reflexes and clonus in my ankles PCP sent me to neuro for exam, had MRI of brain and c and t spine negative except for subarachnoid cyst in the left rear temporal lobe. recently I have noticed along with the clonus that I get severe jerks for no reason. My legs or arms will just jerk back 3-6 This usually happens at rest, or as I am trying to fall asleep.
