Strep throat and z-pak

Common Questions and Answers about Strep throat and z-pak

This relative recently went to the doctor complaining of a very bad soar throat. they received flu shots earlier this year, and no signs of strep throat seem visually present. I personally suspect a cold. if it is in fact viral, the doctor wants to use azithromycin now to prevent possible respiratory infection or bronchitis.
I am a male and on 3/27 I received unprotected oral sex for approximately 3 minutes from a woman whose STD status is unknown to me. 10 days later I was prescribed azithromycin Z Pak (500mg day 1, 250 mg day 2-5) for strep throat. Until this time I had no symptoms of any potentially acquired oral-penile STD such as drip, blister like sore and still have none. Would the medication prevent any potentially incubating bacteria that could result in an STD such as gonorrhea or syphilis?
I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with strep throat and put on a z-pak because I'm allergic to penicillin. He told me to see him today (Wednesday) if I wasn't feeling better. Well, I feel worse, and on top of it, I have excruciating pain when I move my eyes at all. I have no interest in eating or drinking anything. I ate a salad and soup last night, and got very sick afterwards. I really don't have the money to see the doctor twice in a week. Should I be worried or wait it out?
I recently got it 2 weeks ago and they put me on Cefzin and 4 days later it came back. New doc put me on Z-pak. 5 days.. Now I see another white patch in my throat! What is happening here? My kids go to daycare 1 time a week and it seems they always bring something with them home! Should I go to an ENT doc? is it my tonsils? they are alwauys enlarged...thanks!
the doctor tested for strep and it came back negative, said lungs sounded good and just that my throat did look red and my glands were swollen. She prescribed a z pak and i'm only on the 2nd day pill but from what it looks like my throat is still red. What could this be? How long does it usually an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> for the medication to work? I'm very concerned it's something more than a sore/red throat.
I have since developed a lot of allergy and sinus problems since moving to a new area. about a year and a half ago I developed a case of strep throat...since that time I have had approx five postive strep tests. the first time i was prescribed an antiobiotic that never works well for me (z-pak) and given that for the first two infections. the subsequent ones i was prescribed amox-Clav. My blood work has always come back normal and Im wondering why I keep getting strep.
Went to the doctor after two weeks and was put on the Z Pak for three days. the sore throat went away for a day and came back. I went back to the doctor and was told that my throat was a little red and I was put on penicillin. I have no fever or swollen glands. My throat feels more scratchy and irritated then it does sore. I also have a stuffy nose usually at night. While taking the penicillin, it went away for a couple days but came back again.
Ok I'll call my dooctor thank an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>!
I have an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>n multiple round of antibiotics, a Z-Pak, three rounds of doxicycline, a round of cipro, two shots of rochephin, steroid shots and steroid packs and still the same with my throat and tonsils. I have been seing my Dr. for the past ten years and he is a great one and I totally trust him, but we are both baffled. I have even seen an ENT and still baffled.
I couldn't swallow, eat, was running a 103* fever at its worst, was weak to my knees, and had white spots in the back of my throat. This was confirmed to be strep by a rapid test which was + for strep bacteria. I was given a Z pak, but when I was feeling worse a day after starting the regimen, I returned to the Dr. and was given an antibiotic injection and put on a steroid pack. 6 days after exposure to strep bacteria, and 3 days after becoming sick, I was fine again.
Thrush is caused by an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan>dida albian style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan>s, which is a yeast. if an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>'ve been on heavy antibiotics (amox and Z-pak) an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> could now have an overgrowth of yeast on an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r tongue. Here are a couple of pictures: In the meantime, try eating some live culture yogurt (Dannon fruit on the bottom is one). It an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan>'t hurt an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> and might possibly help. Sometimes Group C strep an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> cause sore throats in late teens/early twenties.
I had strep and took a zpac during my first. Sounds like an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> caught it early...
I have never had this before , even though there's a first time for everything my body is telling me this is Riba and Interferon induced. the inside of my throat looks like polka dots and its so raw.
It cleared up. then I felt another sore throat coming on and they put me on the z-pak of azithromicin. That didn't help so they put me on augmentin-XR for 14 days and my throat is still reddish and my tonsils are completely covered with phlegm and the back of my tongue is yellow/white. I still get chills/fever at nightime and I'm exhausted. I don't know what to do at this point. Nothing seems to be helping!
He had a throat culture, and susceptibility testing, and it was shown to be susceptible to azithromycin, and Clindamycin, as well as some others in my original post. I actually don't know where he got it. He had gone to a hospital just because he felt so bad from his initial illness.. I don't know if he already had it at that point. He said they did no invasive tests or procedures there.
Initial oral herpes primarily has multiple painful sores inside the mouth, including the throat -- not just a sore throat. as for the azithromycin Z-pak, of course it did not help. the vast majority of sore throats are due to respiratory viruses, and no virus responds to azithromycin or any other antibiotic. they just have to clear up on their own. Sometimes it an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean>s 2-3 days, sometimes a few weeks.
I waited about one week until I saw a doctor. He did a throat culture, and it was positive for strep. I started antibiotics that day (zithromax z pak). During that one week time of untreated strep, is it possible it could have caused rheumatic fever?
about 10 days after that my throat started hurting again and after a week of pain was told I had strep again and was put on a Z pak. the strep went away, but about 2 weeks later (current) I am having throat soreness and pain again. I have never had strep before the appendectomy, and feel like I have been sick for 2 months. an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> anyone tell me what may be going on?
Went to the dr. again dr ordered ct san style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> and he was put on Z pak. ct san style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> showed no mass. enlarged and asymmetrical lymph nodes. recommendation was to finish antibiotic see dr. in one week repeat ct san style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> in 2 weeks My concern is that we may not be aggressive enough with what we are doing. He has had a sore throat and fver for three weeks or so now. Today is last day of zpak. He had a fever this afternoon. What could this possibley be?
Hi, What initial diagnostic tests were done and what other symptoms are present? I understand an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r concern regarding an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r inability to stay warm and chills. aside from exposure to a cold environment, viral and bacterial infections such as bacterial gastroenteritis, infectious mononucleosis, pneumonia, strep throat and urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis may be the underlying cause. if it persists, it is best that an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> have this evaluated further for proper diagnosis.
Of the few times I have needed antibiotics (strep throat and tooth pulled) I have been prescribed a zpack. I have never had any problems with it.
about 5 weeks ago I went to the doctor with strep throat and bronchitis. What finally forced me to go to the doctor was this terrible cough. I was put on antibiotics (amoxicilin) and Tylonal and codine. I returned the next day after coughing non-stop from 10pm to 3am the night previous. I did have an x-ray, which was normal and was given an albuterol inhaler (which I was given years before after a bout with bronchitis).
However, I am confused by an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r female partner's situation. azithromycin (Z-Pak) is never given for UTI, and that treatment suggests her doctor suspected an STD, especially chlamydia. Chlamydia could explain an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r urethral symptoms as well. However, an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan>'t catch chlamydia by oral sex -- but conceivably that problem started with an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan>r female partner and has nothing to do with the other guy. Or perhaps an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>youan> indeed caught nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) from the oral sex event.
anyway, I have strep throat and the doctor subscribed a Z-pak antibiotic. Is endocarditis a risk for me at this point or are the chances low? Thanks!
about a month and a half ago I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend and 3 days later my throat started to tickle at 5 days I developed a severe sore throat, fever, and chills. I went to the doctor the next day who did a strep and mono test and both were negative. He looked at my throat and said "it looked like sh*t". He prescribed me a Z-Pak and the sore throat and other symptoms cleared up within 2-3 days.
everything cleared up with the tmj and the 3 teeth hurting! now i got strep took a z pak and got thrush!!!! how long does this last? what an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> i do? i feel terrible?
3 days after exposure i became really sick (sore throat, swollen glands, fever) and the doctor said i had non strep a bacterial infeciton...he gave me antiobiotics (azithromaxin or Z-PaK) and i was better in a week...but then a week later i began to feel very tired, swollen glands in my neck, groin and armpits i think, sore throat sometimes, no fever though...this was all during finals at an Ivy League school, so it was a stressful time.
Based on posts on here, it seems that the risk of contracting an STD in this manner is very small, and the risk of having contracted something but being asymptomatic is also very small. also, about two months after that, I had strep throat and my doctor gave me a Z-pak regimen of antibiotics, which I understand from other posts would be expected to clear up something like gonorrhea or chlamydia.
a yr after Justin passed we know of several teenagers that has gotten this DREaDED DISEaSE some lived with horrible side afects, some died because the Dr's aren't aware the FORGOTTEN DISEaSE is back.. and the Z-pak is not the right meds.. Say no to Z-PaK !!!! if he would of been givin amoxicillin he would of had a fighting chance.. Please ck out our web site.. & R.I.P. Justin Rodgers..
I tried to let it an style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>takean> its course but figured I should see my doc. He checked for strep (Negative) Prescribed a z pak. Upon finishing the z pak the weez cough got worse then began another low grade fever 99-100. I went to the hospital for a chest xray since my chest hurts when the cough gets worse. I was admitted. the ran all kinds of blood test, chest xray, ct san style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>canan> of chest, cardio make up ekg, stress test , bowel test, etc... aLL NEGaTIVE.
