I ended up having emergency surgery to have a left orchiectomy. It could have been strep as well, as I can't realy remember which one it was. In any matter it eats body tissue and they were not sure if they had the infection under control. As a result the scrotum was left open to heal from the inside out.
When our eldest daughter was born my wife had a strep infection that she did not know about. She ended up passing it to the baby. Our daughter ended up on live support with lung problems.
You are right it could be either one. Do you think he could be having sex with someone else? I would get tested just in case for gonorrhea (GC), chlamydia to start with. Do you have a fever or did you? Do you have swollen lymph nodes under the neck? You did have pus in the throat. That can be a sign of either a strep throat or a STD. So, it would still be good to get a throat culture as well, or at least a strep test.
I have had a tonsilectomy 3 years ago due to a chronic strep problem and the pain I felt was almost as extreme as my post surgery pain. I went to the emergency room and was given a rapid strep test that came back negative. The doctor gave me 250MG of Cephalexin and 100W of Propoxyphene-N. I have taken these medications religiously for 3 days. My throat is no longer as painful as it was originally, but it is still very painful and colored the same way.
First time vaginal swab (and cervix) was investigated, strep beta hemolytic group b was found. 10days Xiclav therapy was prescribed. After that, strep was gone, but e colli was there, so Bactrim was prescribed for 5 days. 3rd time only enterococcus faecalis was reported and nothing was prescribed until after 20days the doctor repeated examination. 4th swab indicated presence of strep b (second time) and enterococcus faecalis, amoxiscilin is prescribed for 8-10 days.
Usually with a bad strep infection you would get a fever of about 100 or more. Some viruses would cause a fever too. The other poster brought up a good point is that you could also get tested for Gonorrhoeae or GC of the throat. So if you are not better you should see a doctor and discuss some of these issues.

it's a Strep, not Staph, infection. I know that Amox. is used to treat strep infections... we'll see if it works. I'll get restested in a few weeks.
Could the urinary infection or penicillin affect the test and is ten weeks long enough to test accuratly?I know 12 weeks is the usual time but do you think 10 weeks was good enough.
Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
I may be completely wrong and just have strep throat or the early stages of pneumonia (some of my friends have both of those, and I've been around them in the last few days), but I figured I would ask on here. I'm not sure what the typical time frame is for symptoms to appear, and I read that gonorrhea of the throat is typically asymptomatic.
Oh yeah. I had chronic strep for about half a year until we decided to do surgery. I don't think I ever really had a fever. Second stage strep is a rash or hives anywhere on your body. Just go see a normal Dr and test for it. Even if it's negative (it's common to get false results) antibiotics are a good idea. If you get the rash or hives see someone asap! Third stage strep is organ failure and that's a huge deal. Hope your ok soon!
Except for a low growth of Group B strep. The discharge has a burning sensation, I have stomach pains, pain sometimes with sex, painful periods, excessive lubrication with sex.. There isnt a stong odor however. My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin,spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection).
Yesterday, I gave in and went to the doctor when I awoke with a 101.9 fever. The doc tested for flu (negative) and then strep (positive), then proceeded to write prescrips for Tylenol with codeine, penicillin and Valtrex (also have a few cold sores on my lips). No other symptoms.
I've been using the meds for 24 hours now and simply put, they do not work. They don't lessen the sore throat at all, and it's pretty miserable.
I am now on antibiotics for strep throat and it seems to not be work, which I had a throat culture with positive for strep.
My oral infection is getting worse.
I was tested for HIV at 6 1/2 weeks after risky sex, and it was negative.
Why is my oral infection, which I believe to be thrush not responding to treatment and strep not responding to antibiotics?
How reliable is my negative test result on HIV test?

Since my DCR with insertion of Crawford and Jones tubes in Jan, I have had constant infection. 10 days ago I had sinus surgery to drain maxillary sinus. That worked for 9 days. The infection returned. I've been on 5 different antibiotics since Jan surgery. Is it possible that I'm allergic to the tubes?
On the other hand, you could have a bacterial infection like tonsillitis or Strep. You can actually look at yourself in the mirror and say "ahhhh" and see your tonsils. If they look really red or if you see bumps on them then it may be your tonsils that are hurting. If they are infected you can also get that lump in your throat feeling. However, when I had tonsillitis I also felt really bad and had a fever. Strep is another possibility and one you dont want to ignore.
I am 5 weeks post repair of AAA & had a single coronary bypass. Surgery was uneventful but my bad gut shut down. Prior gut surgery history. Spent extra week in hospital with NG tube in stomach. Had a very bad experience with nurse trying to put in NG tube; first adult then pediatric tube, blood everywhere. I told them no more. Later in the day I was taken to a procedure room and a gastroenterologist put the tube in while I was sedated. This is the third or fourth time for a NG for me.
m not sure that is what would of caused you to miscarry though. Strep b is a bacterial infection that can cause problems if left untreated when you deliver. I haven't heard it to cause any complications during the actual pregnancy but I could be wrong. What they do is when you go to deliever your baby they put antibiotics in your iv 4 hours before you give birth to prevent it going to the baby. As long as you get the antibiotics the chance of it passing is extremely slim.
She performed oral sex for around 10 minutes, unprotected... Is there a risk of a strep infection genitally or urinary? I am still on antibiotics and have 3 more days left. I at times am feeling a bit weird down there but I feel it's probably anxiety based. No discharge, burning or redness or spots 24hrs post oral. I believe my dose is 875mg twice a day.. 2 days completed so far.
Please keep those prayers coming. We have a lot going on in our home with my oldest diagnosed with strep and mono this past weekend and my husband has strep. But, we are going to get through this. I am all nerves and haven't been able to eat much lately.

I had an extremely bad cold which led to a sinus infection and strep throat which i took amoxicillin for which seemed to clear up the infection however. I noticed my lymph node in my neck and tonsil on the same side are still swollen and its been about 2 months now. There is no pain either. I was just wondering if it is normal for lymph nodes and a tonsil to stay swollen for that long? I've tried gargling warm salt water and that doesn't seem to help either.
