i currently take strattera , which has mild effects at best. however i am thinking about getting ritalin prescribed . i have a very good job where i am routinely drug tested via Urine and Hair. will ritalin casue a fasle positive drug test? half the internet sites say no the other half say yes.
Strattera is not a psychostimulant. Ritalin, Metadate Anderall are. Strattera is anothr type of medicine for ADD that doctors usually use when the stimulants do not work. Strattera rate of working is not as high as stimulants.
The pediatrician started her off with 18mg Strattera. The results were immediate and amazing. For the first time ever she would sit and do her homework (alone) without getting constantly distracted. A math paper that would previously have taken an hour or two to get through suddenly was done in minutes. She also stopped getting into trouble with her teachers, and was SO cooperative at home. No arguments, frustration, or tantrums for weeks!!!
It is one of the side effects of Ritalin perhaps you should ask your Doctor for a new evaluation of the Med, if you ever decide to let him be on Natural Remedies, it has been shown in studies that food supplements have the same efficacy as Ritalin and a Muliple Vitamin-mineral with B Complex and Vit C also Fish oil, would be good, a lot of Parents are trying this now and their children and not getting the bad side effects that Ritalin and the other meds have.
Im a 34 year old female just diagnosed with ADD. my dr out me on strattera because of an existing heart problem. I started it 5 days ago. the 1st day i took it at 8am. by 12 i couldnt keep my head off my desk. and i killed my scalp with my letter opener. i felt like i had bugs all in my head. the next day i took it at 1pm. same thing. im taking it later at night so i can hopefully sleep through all of the "bugs". has anyone else had itching as a side effect?
I know that both buspar and wellbutrin have been used to help people quit smoking so i believe they are along the same lines i know that i have used wellbutrin alone and with ritalin and in both instances i noticed a great improvement in my concentration ability. Not sure if this helps but just wanted to share this information with you.
That's why most of us say "ask your Dr. about......." Strattera is a med to help with concentration. I believe that was the question. [Is there any med to improve concentration?] I did not say buy Strattera on the black market and don't tell your doctor about it. I merely answered the question.
My 9 year old son has been on 18mg of Concerta for three years now and it's been great for him. Unlike Ritalin, Concerta is taken only once in the morning so it starts to wear off in time for dinner and definately on time for going to bed. The problem with Ritalin seems to be that it's a difficult come down and makes going to sleep at night very uncomfortable. Concerta has been great for my son.
I recently got promoted to a position that requires a lot of stressful fast paced environment . I am not allowed to take Ritalin or any other of those drugs because my job will fire me. I have tried a holistic approach in my diet, life habits and petition God in prayer as well as different medications from time to time. I am very healthy except for this disorder, but was seeing a doctor for medication, Strattera when I went on medicaid. Does medicaid cover Stratterra, Vyvanse or Concerta and other ADHD or ADD medications?
I'm the same way. I used to only be content when I was in a comfy bed or a warm bath.. It sounds like you need to Add meds. It makes your discontent go away. They are amazing. I'm on Vyvanse.
i dont know if this has anything to do with it but i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and i think he also may have it because of the other symptoms he is having like the mood swings and the irratability and i need to know if they maybe affecting him with him on the adderal please some one help me out here im at wits end im scared ******** for him.
My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 3 years old but I refused to put him on medication at that time because my older son was also diagnosed with ADHD and has time went on was able to manage with meds. Then I found out that he has ADHD the behavior part and with my older son was ADHD the learning disability part. Well, has my younger son got older and taller the symptoms and everything else got worse.
My son is 11 yr old, has ADHD/ODDand IED and they also say border line asperger syndrom. He started off with strattera, then switch to stimulants ritalin, and vynasse. Stimulants was horrible for him became very violent. He was on strattera and rispedorol and all he did was wake up eat and sleep. The medication was effecting his motor skills, his reaction time was very slow, like his reaction in the game was horrible, and he had alot of twitching and tics...
If not, either the medication is not the correct option, or the dose is not the best dose. Try to figure this out with the prescribing doctor. Strattera can be a good choice for children who do not respond well to a stimulant medication, or for children who cannot take Ritalin (e.g., if they have a history of seizures).
My son was tired of not being liked, feeling angry, sad and felt he needed help beyond just counseling. We connected with a psychiatrist who tried several differnet medications @ first (they didn't work for my son) and then finally put him on Concerta 36mg 2pills daily and WOW - what a difference.

ve been prescribed 90mg of Adderall a day, Concerta 54mg (2 in AM and 2 after lunch), now Ritalin SR 20mg and take 2 tablets 3 times a day. And, I am addicted. I take 400 to 500mg of Ritalin a day and start having anxiety and panic attacks days before I run out, because I know how difficult the withdrawals are from not taking it. I've been to an addiction rehab center for it and spent 30 days there.
we soon found out that stimulants seemed to make things worse for him, we went from ritalin to concerta to adderall to strattera. from the beginning, we have included weekly, sometimes daily therapy, and in the last three years intensive in home therapy. here we are and my son still gets suspended from school on a weekly basis for stealing, cursing, yelling and cursing at other students, and being as disruptive as he can be.
For example, there are a number of different interactions that can happen if stim meds are used with bipolar meds. If either Prozac or Paxil was used, the stim meds will accumulate with resultant anger, rage, etc. (p72, New ADHD Medication Rules, Dr. Charles Parker).
And you said that Ritalin didn't work. There are other stim meds that would work better because they are a longer release and smoother. But, one thing to think of.
We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
