Could this have anything to do with prosac, thryoid meds , lamitac, tegretol. trazodone. klonipin and strattera. MInd you I have had this severe itching before I started straterra.
We tried the usual medicines. Ritalin, Strattera, Adderall, Concerta, etc...nothing seemed to work but when all was said and done, my son developed vocal tics. These haven't gone away for the last couple of years. He is now on Tenex, and Clonidine, for both the ADHD and the tics. We've noticed that when he's getting sick, the tics are at it full force. And within the last 3 months he's had to obsessively go to the bathroom.
Then, things got really crazy when my pdoc added Strattera to the Prozac.. I had to stop taking the strattera because it was making me nauseous. After stopping Strattera, I began having hot flashes.. In fact, I had 30 hot flashes in one day! They hot flashes began to subside... Then I started missing periods.. I have not had a period since Sept 9th of 2008. I had a pap smear on Aug 18 2008 which was normal. I did think it was odd that I had a period shortly after the pap smear..
however, there may be family history or medical history that we aren't aware of as to why he was put on that. Usually they try Concerta or Strattera first or even Adderall/Adderall XR. My son is 17 y/o and is on 10 mg of Adderall XR and she is about to put him on a booster dose in the afternoon because he metabolizes so fast.
USUALLY RITLAN IS PRESCRIBED WITH ANOTHER DRUG TO WORK TOGETHER, FOR ME IT WAS RITLAN AND INDEROL AND THEN SOMETHING AT NITE TO SLOW IT ALL DOWN. RITLAN IS USUALLY PRESCRIBED FOR ADHD BUT MAYBE IT USED FOR OTHER THINGS AS WELL. AS SOON AS STRATTERA (THE NEW DRUG FOR ADHD) CAME OUT IN JANUARY OF 2003, I STARTED TAKING THAT. IT IS NON ADDICTIVE AND JUST 1 PILL A DAY WILL DO IT. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD COMMENT. GOOD LUCK TO YOU IN ALL.
This seems to be a symptom that current knowledge cannot accurately diagnose, other than saying the cause is 'anxiety'. I have seen on another forum that one person had a scan and had some inflammation of the appendix and has been successfully treated (see pasting below). Another cause was inflammation of the prostate.
