strattera

Avatar f tn They demonstrate that anxiety lessened for the majority of children when stimulants were introduced. The guidelines recommend treating the ADHD first, with a stimulant, and addressing the remaining anxiety with behavioral therapies and medication." from this link: http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/11181-2.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if you have an opinion on Cogmed for improving memory in ADHD children. What age is optimal for a child to do the Cogmed program (my child is 9)? Summer is coming and I was told that usually it is better to have the child go through the program during the summer vacation. Thank you again for your input.
Avatar n tn The Adderal XR was effective at combating my ADHD symptoms but made my anxiety worse, so my doctor prescribed Strattera. I found the Strattera to be not nearly as effective as Adderal XR, so without consulting my doctor, I began taking both medications together. This is working extraordinarily well. The Strattera seems to ease my anxiety while slightly reducing ADHD symptoms and the Adderal XR nearly eliminates the remaining ADHD symptoms.
Avatar n tn ) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid. While we noticed an decrease in symptoms for the first 3 weeks, this past week they have comeback with avengeance, along with anxiety, tearfulness, and a general "mopy-ness". We are upping his Prevacid to 30 mg. If there is no improvement we go back to the GI Doc next week. Any advice? Anyone been through anything like this? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Most people in clinical studies who experienced side effects were not bothered enough to stop using Strattera. Strattera has not been tested in children under 6 years of age or in geriatric adults.
Avatar n tn My main concern now is that they (his doctor and mother) have elevated his drug regimine to include 3 drugs that have known interactions with each other, 1 (Concerta) that is known to potentially cause sudden death, and 2 (Clonidine and Zolpidem) that are not recommended for children. Although Strattera does have some potential side effects, I believe it is by far the safest.
Avatar m tn I too have noticed that the strattera has completely stopped my anxiety as well. Like u, I actually feel normal for the first time in I cnt remember how long. The Adderall/strattera combo works rly well for my alcoholism, anxiety,& ADHD.
Avatar f tn Strattera is a non stimulant med used for ADHD. Whether or not it would be effective for you, I don't know. This site lists almost all possible treatment options. Although for some reason, I couldn't find Strattera listed, so you need to google that. The site is http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/medications.htm And the following site also lists (with info) non stimulant meds (they do mention strattera). http://www.baltimorepsych.com/NonStimulants.
209987 tn?1451935465 I know that personally, a good 5 mile jog does wonders for my stress/anxiety - but I live near the coast in southern california which makes it a year around stress reliever :) Oh, and omega 3 pills - use wild salmon only - I think will also help.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old stepson has been on strattera for ADHD for 7 weeks now. 25mg a day. there have been no side affects except a little tired in the begining few weeks. obviously everyone can react different but my son has had no problems with it. I do watch him closely just in case any arise. I also like that it is a non-stimulant compared to everything else out there.
Avatar n tn Will he continue to drop weight if he stays on this medication? How long is too long to stay on the medication? Can he be in it for long term? When he skipps his medication he's back to his old ways...he's hyper, anger, upset, etc so I fear the thought of taking it away but also am concern if taking it for too long could harm him? please help.....
Avatar n tn you should be very careful of putting a child on antidepressants at this age, as some of these meds have not been tested on children, and have been known to cause suicidal tendencies in kids. i have a 10 yr old adhd/ nld - non verbal learning disorder child who is on prozac 10mg, because he was said to be way too anxious on stimulants, but now off stimulants md still has him on it.......
396332 tn?1320003615 So I am now on Cymbalta + Strattera for general anxiety/ OCD. Has anyone had any luck with Stratttera being added to there antidepressant. My doctor said this was a great combo.
Avatar f tn I would take her to a pediatric psychologist for a second opinion. It sounds like she is being medicated for the side effects from the Strattera and she may be over stimulated.
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar n tn Hi, I've been on strattera for 6 days now and when I take it in the morning, about 2-3 hours after taking it I get pretty intense anxiety (heart beats fast, chest feels heavy, my whole body gets tense, my breathing feels shallow) I'd say this anxiety fully subsides in around an hour. It's the same reaction I've had to stimulants, which is why I'm trying strattera. My doctor gave me 0.25mg of xanax for this reaction and it takes it away COMPLETELY.
Avatar m tn ask your Dr. about Strattera. It is prescribed for Attention Deficit disorder, but is not a stimulant. It is non-addictive and not a controlled substance. It also has some of the same properties as SSNRI's. Since it affects neurotransmitters it is a very useful drug.
454366 tn?1211245301 Litium did give me a hyperactive thyroid condition. The med I was given for that has a side effect of osteoporosis in the lumbar in long term use (Synthroid). I ended up with litium toxicity a few years back because diuretics will cause that. As you know caffine is a diuretic (soft drinks) - which most kiddo's I know tend to drink. I would not allow litium to be given to my child; not going through what I have with it. I have a son who is ADHD.
Avatar f tn I had to stop taking the strattera because it gave me the hot flashes.I stopped Strattera in Feb of 07. In November of 2008, I tapered off Prozac. I was ok for about 9 months. Then, in August of 09, I started having anxiety issues.. Not really mental anxiety, but physical anxiety.. My insides felt like they were running on overdrive, kind of like an engine at high idle. So in October of 08, I went back on Prozac (10mg) About 1 week into treatment, I started having chest pain..
Avatar f tn //www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/nutritional.htm and also for herbal things http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/herbal.htm If you are interested I can also suggest some books that will help with learning techniques. m Best wishes.
Avatar f tn is that abilify is a good suplement to another drug, not necessarily good to be the primary drug. for instance my dr. added abilify to my effexor and strattera for the cognitive, energizing and 'easier to deal with stress' effects of the abilify. but the effexor is still my main mood booster and the strattera is still my main anxiety damper.
Avatar n tn As an honor roll student with an overall 3.9 Gpa. I started youngest after he turned 5 in preschool for the same reasons and at his therapist suggestion. He also has OCD and ODD (about 75% of kids with 1 behavior porblem have a secondary problem). Meds really help and if they forget to take them for just a day you can see a big difference in their behavior. I usually end up with notes sent home from teachers if they skip it (teachers have no idea they forgot their meds).
Avatar f tn My 9 yr old daughter has anxiety. It has gotten so bad this school year that she is missing school. The majority of her anxiety revolves around the fear of throwing up. It is almost every day at school lunch. She starts feeling nauseas as soon as she wakes up in the morning because she is worried about lunch. She checks the expiration date on everything before she eats because she is scared of eating something expired and throwing up.
979428 tn?1253399601 Boy, 7 year olds can be very picky eaters. Not knowing the parents dietary habits makes this a hard question. Breakfast is huge. The medication should not have kicked in at this time. This should be a meal where he really bulks up. Many families skip breakfast - they cannot allow this to happen. If he is eating school lunches, this could also be a problem. He needs his own lunch and what he wants.
Avatar n tn hey im an alcoholic in recovery my primary dr put me on xanax and effexor for about a year...got hooked on the xanax...so he reffered me to a p doc i am now on zoloft 150/naltraxone 50mg/Trileptal 900 mg/stelazine 6mg/cogentin 0.5 /inderol 60mg and now just started strattera...am i being over medicated?the dr told me that im on low doses is that true?....i was wondering if strattera will work for me in the future...
Avatar f tn Strattera is not a psychostimulant. Ritalin, Metadate Anderall are. Strattera is anothr type of medicine for ADD that doctors usually use when the stimulants do not work. Strattera rate of working is not as high as stimulants.
Avatar f tn methylphenidate (focalin) is what my grandchild has taken for 3 years he was very small for his age and mentally delayed he now takes abilify and strattera....
