Strattera for adhd inattentive

Common Questions and Answers about Strattera for adhd inattentive

strattera

It may well be that the initial dose indicates the benefit of Strattera for your son, but that he requires a higher dose for the medication to continue to be useful. However, as you point out, with a recommended dose of 1.4 mg/kg, he really should not be prescribed more than 40 mg/day.
Hello. I am a healthy male in my 20's with ADHD (primarily inattentive). I have tried Ritalin, Adderall and Dexedrine, but could not tolerate them due to cardiovascular side effects (tachycardia, chest pain, hypertension). I have also tried Strattera, but it did not work for me. I am aware that TCA's or Wellbutrin may be used off-label for ADHD, but I do not wish to take them. I am interested in trying Provigil or Desoxyn (I am aware of the red tape involved with Desoxyn).
The pediatrician started her off with 18mg Strattera. The results were immediate and amazing. For the first time ever she would sit and do her homework (alone) without getting constantly distracted. A math paper that would previously have taken an hour or two to get through suddenly was done in minutes. She also stopped getting into trouble with her teachers, and was SO cooperative at home. No arguments, frustration, or tantrums for weeks!!!
My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Put him back on meds for two days, and for short time in future, as per doc, to wait for strattera to take some affect, but since we cant get strattera in him, ..?/ tics are getting noticibly worse quickly. Shaking head up/down, sideways. This had greatly diminished when he was off adderall for the past 4 days. So, question is now, what do we do. I think we need meds still for quality of life with his adhd, but can not do pills, capsules, and not adderall.
Strattera is a treatment for ADHD that is not in the psychostimulant family of medications. It does not suppress appetite and is quite an effective medication, particularly for those children who are inattentive but not hyperactive.
To be frank, there is no solid evidence that natural remedies will successfully treat ADHD (the name of the condition, even when hyperactivity is not present - such a child displays Inattentive-type ADHD). It would be irresponsible of me to guide you toward treatments that are not supported by empirical evidence.
I stopped taking adderall for a two months and the acne went away. The craving for cigs went away...but I needed meds for my adhd! So recently my psych had me try focaline...ugh! I hate it! blurry vision, depression, zombie feeling, pain in my stomach. I have stopped taking it. Have you had acne issues with adderall? Maybe I was on just too high of a dose. What is your dose for adderall?
DID I MENTION SHE ORIGINALLY GOT ON THE MEDS FOR ADHD AND IS NOW BEING TREATED FOR ADHD ANXIETY AND ODD. WELL 2 WKS AGO THEY SWITCHED HER TO 50MG VYVANCE 150MG OF ZOLOFT AND 10MG RISPERDALE. #1 I FOUND OUT YOU CANT MIX ZOLOFT AND VYVANCE, AND VYVANCE ALONE MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU R ON COCAINE. KEEP IN MIND SHE IS 7 AND WEIGHS 50LBS. SHE USE TO BE CHUNKY NOT NO MORE. FINALLY I SEEN THE LIGHT AFTER WE STARTED GOING THREW GOD AWFUL MOOD SWINGS AND AGRESSIVNESS AND RAGES.
If you are researching the connection between ADD/ADHD and lying, you have to start with ADHD, even if your daughter displays none of the "H" symptoms. Why? Because the DSM IV does not even list a condition called ADD. The latter is merely a popular abbreviation and sometimes people will use it to indicate that their child is not hyperactive. Psychiatrists speak of thre kinds of ADHD: predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive, and mixed type.
There is quite lot in it and it would take be around 5 pages to fully describe everything I know so far, and a 3 page doctor’s letter can take me a whole day to write just getting my thoughts in order, but if you have any questions feel free. Right now I’m taking Strattera in the highest dose for my weight. It is not expected to have great deal of impact on the Executive itself. The effects are quite subtle.
My son is now taking abilify (5mg) 3 times per day to help control his mood. He took Strattera for years, b/c the stimulants made him manic. The strattera was not working...even the max dosage, so he is now on vyvanse. I think it helps with his focus, but he is still very argumentative, particularly at home. At school, he likes to be the class clown, as well. The eating...well, my son is the same. He eats all his food, and then begs for others. It's really embarrassing, isn't it.
Lest you think I like meds, I fought giving them to my son for 6 yrs. He was on Strattera for 2 yrs and it really did not work after 9 weeks. He was off all meds for 1 1/2 yrs and did not do well enough to stay in a competitive HS. Now, with home schooling, I gave him one does of Adderall. It didn't seem to do anything but it was only 10 mg. Now I am scared to give him more because of addiction...nothing else has worked. He is so inattentive, like he is on drugs already.
) Can one person have an uncharacteristically low level of dopamine production in the brain even for someone with ADHD? Are there any documented cases where an ADHD affected person has required a 2 or 3 (30 m.g.) pill every day in order to bring their disorder under control?
Have you tried Focalin for ADHD? My son was put on that first and it seemed to take the edge off his tantrums (by no means did they go away)! He had to be taken off them for a short period as we were in the middle of diagnosing Tourettes and wanted to make sure the meds weren't making the tics worse (they weren't). When we took him off the Focalin...OMG...the tantrums were 5-10 a day and 2 hour tantrums were not uncommon. With all the doors and windows closed...he could be heard from the street!
