Strattera for adhd inattentive

Common Questions and Answers about Strattera for adhd inattentive

strattera

Avatar f tn To be frank, there is no solid evidence that natural remedies will successfully treat ADHD (the name of the condition, even when hyperactivity is not present - such a child displays Inattentive-type ADHD). It would be irresponsible of me to guide you toward treatments that are not supported by empirical evidence.
Avatar m tn (1) What is your opinion on Strattera for ADHD and how much should a 90 pound child take (2) If we continue with a stimulant, can the tics get worse and is the fact that she has this tic a sign that the stimulant is causing something negative to her body (3) Would you recommend that we change to Strattera. Thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn Strattera is a treatment for ADHD that is not in the psychostimulant family of medications. It does not suppress appetite and is quite an effective medication, particularly for those children who are inattentive but not hyperactive.
Avatar m tn The pediatrician started her off with 18mg Strattera. The results were immediate and amazing. For the first time ever she would sit and do her homework (alone) without getting constantly distracted. A math paper that would previously have taken an hour or two to get through suddenly was done in minutes. She also stopped getting into trouble with her teachers, and was SO cooperative at home. No arguments, frustration, or tantrums for weeks!!!
Avatar n tn The Adderal XR was effective at combating my ADHD symptoms but made my anxiety worse, so my doctor prescribed Strattera. I found the Strattera to be not nearly as effective as Adderal XR, so without consulting my doctor, I began taking both medications together. This is working extraordinarily well. The Strattera seems to ease my anxiety while slightly reducing ADHD symptoms and the Adderal XR nearly eliminates the remaining ADHD symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have adhd/anxiety/ibs-d. I was on librax for two years and did not know it had librium. My fault for not researching the medicine. After I realize that I am developing a tolerance I stop taking it and try something else. My GP thinks my ibs is because of my adhd\anxiety but I haven't been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up.
Avatar n tn I am an over 35 Adult female with ADHD. I have been taking Strattera for several years. It wasn't until my aggressive behavior and anger was announced to me by my husband as being a problem that I sought help with counceling and with my primary care Doctor. The first thing my Doctor said to me was that Strattera was known to cause heightened aggression and mood swings. He also said that due to the fact that I am super-sensitive to any medication it could make it much worse. Is this possible?
Avatar f tn My son developed Raynard's Phenomen after taking Strattera. Weaning him down on the dosage reduced the symptoms. His hands otherwise where blue, white, and cold through out the day. He had a reaction from the stimulants and can not take them. HAs anyone used accupuncture for controlling ADD symptoms?
Avatar n tn He originally had boo hooed any narcotic adhd meds. But he gave me enough for a week. When I took the amphetamine I immediately felt relief and I am at an age where I am pretty sure what my body needs and I don't want to play around with newer drugs with side effects I am afraid of. i know how the amphetamine adhd meds makes me feel and I am working now and doing fine but in a few days I will be out. I won't meet him (my psychiatrist)for another month.

Avatar m tn I am 44. Recently diagnosed with inattentive ADHD. I have all types of memory problems, focus/concentration problems. A have a phobia of any situation that might reveal a lack of ability to articulate. I have very poor reading comprehension and have to read and reread many times to process it or in other words there is little automaticity there when I read. I have tried 6 different medications none of which has helped. My only source of relief is avoidance and denial.
Avatar m tn That's great! It's amazing when you find the best mix of medications. Why did they add a medication on if I may ask?
Avatar f tn When i was about 5 or 7 years old thats when my doctor told my mom i have ADHD. My doctor gave me to take Vyvanse and Strattera. The Vyvanse i take is 60mg capsules and for Strattera i take 60mg capsules to. I had problems over the years. I get distracted very easily but i try not to look or be distracted but its hard sometimes. especially when people are talking, making noise and being annoying is distracting me. There are other stuff i turn my attention to though.
Avatar f tn Strattera is a non stimulant med used for ADHD. Whether or not it would be effective for you, I don't know. This site lists almost all possible treatment options. Although for some reason, I couldn't find Strattera listed, so you need to google that. The site is http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/medications.htm And the following site also lists (with info) non stimulant meds (they do mention strattera). http://www.baltimorepsych.com/NonStimulants.
Avatar f tn DID I MENTION SHE ORIGINALLY GOT ON THE MEDS FOR ADHD AND IS NOW BEING TREATED FOR ADHD ANXIETY AND ODD. WELL 2 WKS AGO THEY SWITCHED HER TO 50MG VYVANCE 150MG OF ZOLOFT AND 10MG RISPERDALE. #1 I FOUND OUT YOU CANT MIX ZOLOFT AND VYVANCE, AND VYVANCE ALONE MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU R ON COCAINE. KEEP IN MIND SHE IS 7 AND WEIGHS 50LBS. SHE USE TO BE CHUNKY NOT NO MORE. FINALLY I SEEN THE LIGHT AFTER WE STARTED GOING THREW GOD AWFUL MOOD SWINGS AND AGRESSIVNESS AND RAGES.
Avatar f tn The short answer: There is no difference. Officially, only ADHD exists. It comes in three varieties: ADHD predominantly hyperactive, ADHD predominantly inattentive, and ADHD mixed type. In other words, you don't need to be hyperactive in order to be diagnosed as ADHD. The term ADD is merely a popular abbreviation frequently (mis)used to indicate that someone is inattentive and does not display symptoms of hyperactivity.
Avatar n tn 1st on adderall with explosive behavior - had to try before could take straterra, insurance. Strattera was fine for sev yrs - although only limited imp - just enough to tolerate her. Problems with social interaction and her mouth - she's constantly argumentative and I believe ODD. After menstruation began, strattera appeared worthless. She began nobody liked her, spells of crying uncontrollably, etc. I took her off Strattera and was on no meds temporarily...
Avatar n tn While some physicians diagnosis on the basis of a quick interview, and some use symptom checklists, the most responsible way to determine if a child has ADHD is to refer him for psychological or neuropsychological assessment. ADHD is frequently diagnosed by the presence of symptoms, yet it is important to note that symptoms such as impulsivity or forgetfulness can also be caused by anxiety, depression, or other factors.
Avatar f tn You will notice the effect within min of taking the meds if they are the right one for the individual. Better impulse control such as a decrease in motor mouthing for ADHD for example and they will calm down. Some one with SCT will do better with fuctioning in complex social situations like a room full of people having conversations. Their processing speed with will increase so they can keep up with whats going on and not feel so lost.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old stepson has been on strattera for ADHD for 7 weeks now. 25mg a day. there have been no side affects except a little tired in the begining few weeks. obviously everyone can react different but my son has had no problems with it. I do watch him closely just in case any arise. I also like that it is a non-stimulant compared to everything else out there.
Avatar f tn I have tried a holistic approach in my diet, life habits and petition God in prayer as well as different medications from time to time. I am very healthy except for this disorder, but was seeing a doctor for medication, Strattera when I went on medicaid. Does medicaid cover Stratterra, Vyvanse or Concerta and other ADHD or ADD medications?
Avatar m tn Stimulants was horrible for him became very violent. He was on strattera and rispedorol and all he did was wake up eat and sleep. The medication was effecting his motor skills, his reaction time was very slow, like his reaction in the game was horrible, and he had alot of twitching and tics... He is now back on strattera and abilfy... He is doing great in school straight "A".. still hyper....
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 3 years old but I refused to put him on medication at that time because my older son was also diagnosed with ADHD and has time went on was able to manage with meds. Then I found out that he has ADHD the behavior part and with my older son was ADHD the learning disability part. Well, has my younger son got older and taller the symptoms and everything else got worse.
209987 tn?1451935465 have you tried strattera for the adhd. that is what my son is on its a non stimulant so it shouldn't affect your sleep as much as the stimulants do.
Avatar n tn Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
Avatar f tn Sounds like the Ritalin is quite beneficial for your daughter. Some people grow out of ADHD. Your daughter may not need medication for the rest of her life. Girls typically have more inattentive symptoms of ADHD, while boys have more hyperactive symptoms.
