strattera and weight loss side effects

I'm still confused about how long is too long to be on this medication and will the weight loss adventually stop or at least slow down? What is non-stimulant Strattera and how will it help my son?

Thank you, therese83. It's possible that I dropped from 40 mg to 30, it was several months ago. But, your suggestion is a very good one, and a reminder. I too am quite sensitive to changes in dosage and usually take about twice or three times longer than usual to reach a target. Thanks for reminding me. I'm still wondering what mood stabilizers you and/or others have tried to augment the mood stabilizer you are already taking.

his pedicatian prescribed strattera...he took it for a yr...I took him off because of the weight loss and his personality changed....he has taken phosphatidylserine/dmae and omega-3 fish oil...to help him focus..he does get easily distracted...I have not taken him to a pyschiatrist for further testing...this year he is in 8th grade and struggling in school...I have read about L-tyrosine..and wonder if it is successful with focus...he is not hyper..very quiet but does have a short attention span.

Whenever a doctor prescribes a medication for a child, the parent would do well to investigate its side effects of the medication. ADD medications can be very nasty, and that includes Strattera. In a case like this I would definitely investigate alternative medicine for the treatment of your child. The answer may be acupuncture which has no side effects. Do whatever works.

HI molly I am on strattera and I have zero side effect. However, I have a friend who has been on strattera and had to stop it because of the itch. Tell your doctor asap.

One of the side effects that my child shows is that she bites and pulls her nails. Yesterday, I noticed that you suggested Strattera to another mom for tics. Our doctor told us also to change to Strattera.

Is it possible the anxiety is driving the eating problem? ( and yes stim meds can be a factor). More importantly what does she think about the weight loss. Is she open to supplements like protein drinks, etc.?

Hated Straterra (and all of its various and sundry men-only side-effects) and was luckily able to handle stimulants well. As I get older though, I worry about things like blood pressure and stroke risk, so I've asked to decrease my stimulant meds. My doctor has asked me to supplement that decrease by taking Quelbree which is not a stimulant.

the first two you listed are for weight loss and i dont think your supposed to really combine them

I've been on synthroid x 5 months, post total thyroidectomy since May, and I've had no hair loss or weight gain. I am also VERY careful about what I eat and exercise regularly.

My son also could not take the Strattera due to side effects, but the side sffects are in the same category as SSNRI's. A lot of people just can't take them. Some have no problems. I am interested in the Provigil because he does well with stimulants. Hope negive finds this info useful too.

I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. i have had increased sweating since this past summer it seems like I perspire at every opportunity I've been on well butrin and Strattera at the same time I am currently tapering down the Strattera I was wondering if anyonee Experienced sweating extra from strattera?????

My question is, if anyone can answer, why was I able to take strattera as a child with 0 side effects and then high heart rate etc now. Im thinking it was the benzo withdrawal but I have no experience with that either so Idk. Also, with wellbutrin I dont have the heart rate just feel sleepy and foggy mind. s side effects are commonly confused with weight loss. Side effects are loss of appetite, however this may affect people in different ways. And being that this is just a side effect of the drug, and not the purpose of the drug itself, it does not mean that it will neccessarily happen. Sometimes the brain is so powerful that it can override the drugs side affects of appetite suppression. Truthfully, some people happen to lose weight while on the drug, some people don't.

My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. Mine did, and now I can only feel it a tiny bit if my feet are in the same position for a long time (i.e. computer chair rail). It definitely has a side effect of weight loss. I myself am taking wellbutrin sr and have been experiencing the same side effects along with feeling like i am in a elevator not sure if these are normal side effects or not... but the plus side of it i have been losing weight with it..

ve been taking that medication for almost a year and the side effects seem to get worse and worse. It absolutely makes me lose all my appetite and soda tastes so awful. I've tried everything to get to down to the "perfect" weight but I just can't! I'm just getting so frustrated! It's the just the same thing over and over every time he sees me. No optic nerve swelling and lose more weight. I just don't know what to do! Sorry I'm just letting out steam.
