Avatar n tn At age 10 my daughter had 5 teeth extracted and braces applied. We were told that there were also teeth missing and that applying the braces would fill in the gaps. Now 2 teeth are trying to come in between the teeth that have been pulled together by the braces, and the doctor wants to extract them now. We were told these teeth were genetically missing. I think the braces were applied to early, before all her teeth had a chance to grow in. I can upload the exray.
Avatar f tn You can bite correctly, eat more comfortably and care for your teeth and gums more easily. It also improves your smile. Braces are useful to straighten crooked, crowded or protruding teeth, close gaps between teeth and correct the bite of the teeth. It is a prolonged treatment. It may take 18 months to 2 years. A visit to the orthodontist may be required every four to six weekly. You should take extra care with the braces since there is a tendency for food to get trapped and plaque formation.
Avatar f tn After my teeth had time to re-attach and heal, I had top braces put on to straighten the teeth. As far as I am aware, I have always had sensitivity in these two teeth ever since. Usually it’s a dull ache, not super strong. Sometimes I feel nothing at all. Sometimes it’s more than a dull ache. Sometimes the discomfort occurs when the weather changes (like a bad knee or something like that).
Avatar m tn This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth. The last thing the periodontist said to us was if we had to choose between the periodontal and orthodontist was to get the teeth straightened and if there was problem we could then address that problem. The last thing the orthodontist said to us was we should have a strong foundation to start the straightening process. We are now so confused we do not know which way to proceed.
Avatar n tn what's so good about having braces? Are they only for a better appearance? I read that misaligned teeth can cause tooth decay, but can't you just brush your teeth to avoid tooth decay? I also read that misaligned teeth can affect your speech and chewing, but by how much? Can misaligned teeth affect you so badly that you absolutely can't chew or speak intelligibly? And if yes, does it only happen if your teeth are very misaligned?
Avatar m tn I had braces at a relatively older age than most people in my early 40s. The dentist warned me at that point that if I was to get braces then he couldn't guarantee the strength of my teeth in the future (older age) and said I might have complications. I read braces were allowed at any age, but why did he warn me at that time? I'm 58 now and my teeth are a bit crooked and I've lost several teeth as well.
Avatar n tn I'm not an orthodontist, but I can tell you a few things as an adult who just finished having braces...Yes, teeth can be crooked after taking the braces off, especially when patients aren't compliant about following through with the retainment plan set out by the orthodontist, but even then there are some cases where teeth move back into their crooked position. There are lots of pros to braces.
Avatar f tn i had undergrown orthodontrics trestment at the age of 13 ( worn removable braces )......the gaps between my teeths were cured in around 7-8 months...but aftr that i stopped using the braces without consulting my dentist.....now at the age of 20, the gaps are showing up again....what should i do???
Avatar n tn You should also think about how hard it is going to be to keep them clean. If it is difficult for you to brush and floss her teeth at home it will be even more difficult with the braces on. Did you or her dad or someone she adores wear braces currently or in the past? Maybe you could have them talk to her or show her a picture. I think that some special needs patients do better if they have short positive visits with their dentist in order to build a relationship of trust.
561384 tn?1216372794 A year ago, after my last total negative test, I started wearing Invisaligne braces to straighten my teeth. As my teeth have moved, of course my mouth gets very tender and no matter how many times I brush my teeth and especially in the morning, there is a build up of white mucus (sorry to be grosse) in my mouth all around the braces. I never mentioned this to my Dr. because it never occured to me.
Avatar m tn My lower jaw is good, and the rest of my teeth too. Any idea what is the procedure to get it fixed? Is it going to be braces? If so, I'd rather stay like this.
Avatar n tn about 10 years ago they told me that i had 3 options, 1 is to take out the baby teeth and wear braces till the adult teeth come down, 2 take out the adult teeth and wiat till the babies fall out, or 3 just leave them alone and have the gums xrayed every 3 years to check for cysts. so here i am now and my teeth are turning yellow. i am afraid to have the babies taken out because what it the adults to come down. i mean seriously what do i do. any suggestions would be wonderful.
Avatar n tn One of the reputed dental specialist in a dentistry clinic in Ajax has whom I had consulted recommended me to wear braces which can lead my teeth properly aligned. I’m totally unaware of this procedure. Which one is the most preferable - the invisalign or traditional braces? Can anyone share their experience who has got braces?
Avatar f tn I'm getting my braces off June 8 and im really nervous! Does it hurt? How long does it take to take out a full set?
Avatar m tn I have braces and my teeth look yellow with white streaks all overs them. They are almost a transparent color and i am very upset by this. I brush 2 times a day but its just not enough.. Please help me fix this problem before my braces come off and i am horified. What can i do to fix this problem?
Avatar n tn I highly recommend fissure sealing of the teeth prior getting braces. Seemed expensive at the time when we had our son's done for prevention, but he is now 30 and never had a cavity at all in his mouth!!!!. On the other hand, my husband wore braces and that procedure wasn't available back in his days. Today, everywhere the braces rubbed the enamel he has had cavities and had to have crowns put over most his front teeth.
Avatar f tn I'm 21 years and just got the braces on for the third time (bad first ortho). When I had braces on at 6-10 years and 15-16 years they were not bad at all, maybe 2-3 days of discomfort and were fine. This past time it has taken a month for the discomfort to almost fully disappear. I couldn't eat properly for 2 and half weeks and my gums are still getting cut up badly from the brackets.
Avatar n tn t do the surgery without at least consulting with your orthodontist prior to surgery to ensure that the treatment is completed and the problem resolved.
631640 tn?1264419173 ve measures I would have to take to correct my teeth. Would I have to have all these teeth pulled and replaced? My teeth are pretty good about deviating from any normal shape, and my upper incisors are all different sizes, so I don't know what could be done aside from replacing them. But again, I don't know anything about teeth, so... yeah. Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn I am 16 yrs old. I want to put braces on my teeth. The doctors have said that they would have to pluck my 4 teeth from each side. the 4th teeth from each side will be taken out . Does it have any side-effects like brain-cancer etc.?
Avatar m tn I'm 17 and was wondering if I should get braces based on the picture, or is there anyway to get bigger teeth, my two front central incisor or front two teeth seem bigger in proportion to the rest of my top front teeth, I'm fine with my bottom, I'm just wondering if I should get braces, try to get bigger teeth somehow, or anything in general. Always looking to improve my teeth so any tips are helpful!
Avatar f tn I started brushing regularly and flossing after that. After I had my braces removed, they put a fixed retainer behind my front teeth which I was supposed to have removed several years ago. I was also thrusting my tongue against my teeth after braces were removed which caused them to shift forward. I quit going to the dentist for 4 years due to insurance and then anxiety.
