Avatar f tn Hi yes to my shame i am a smoker the last couple of months i`ve had twinges in my right lung, but the last two weeks it`s got worse the pain is more constant & i`ve only just started coughing a bit. I`m takeing painkillers regular but it don`t stop it completely, i`ve booked a appointment to see my doctor i have to wait a week to see him. Avatar f tn A lung disease that, if not caused by cigarette smoking, will without any doubt be worsened by smoking. It is also a signal that if you do not stop smoking, your lung function will increasingly continue to rapidly deteriorate.
Avatar f tn You are a very smart young man to stop smoking. PLEASE do not think a few here & a few there will not hurt you...because it is so highly addictive, you may be smoking every day before you even know it!! Next week my very best friend is having surgery in her lung for lung cancer..she is only 50....and smoked since your age..By the way, this is her 3rd kind of cancer!! Tongue Cancer, Bladder cancer, and now Lung!! Believe me, you do not want a life like hers. Keep up the good work!!
Avatar f tn The difference between a “lung capacity of 48% (in general terms) and a lung capacity of, say 30%, is enormous in terms of one’s quality of life and, if your Mom does not stop smoking, that further loss of lung function could transpire in a very few years. I suggest that you and she speak with her doctor and put together a plan to help her stop smoking and this should be done without further delay. Good luck and good for you for taking action to help your Mom.
Avatar f tn Im 11 weeks and a smoker ive cut down heaps you do not need to take anything to stop smoking , Will Power, its been 2 days and no smokes for me hope it will stay that way .
Avatar m tn There are tests that can be done such as Pulmonary function test that can measure your lung capacity and assess for any lung disorders such as asthma or Chronic obstructive lung disease. Blood in your lung secretions isn't normal either. Pulmonologist can order CT Scan of the chest or sputum culture( lung secretions) to rule out any infection. Ask your family Doctor for these test or a referral to see a lung specialist. Thank you for your question and good luck.
Avatar f tn Given your problem with coronary artery disease, you would be wise to work with your doctor to do everything in your power to stop smoking. It is never too late to stop smoking and benefit from the cessation.

Avatar m tn Breathlessness on exertion could be due to the decreased lung function. To improve lung function practice breathing exercises and quit smoking. Lung function tests could further help in evaluation. If the symptoms are getting worse or if you develop additional symptoms please consult your primary care physician. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
335728 tn?1331414412 I'm so happy you finally got the phone call! And an appt so soon. That means positive things are coming your way soon. It's always better to have answers, and be able to treat problems, than no answers and being ignored, by incompetent drs. Your deadbeat lying doctor's nurse could probably fill out the forms for you, then all you would have to do is get her signature. Is there anyone in the office you could ask? But then again, she would probably be gone on another vacation.
Avatar f tn Okay, on Tues I will have lung functions tests, then see the Puolmonologist for diagnosis. What questions should I ask? I have already had a Spirometry test, twice, with a lung function age shown as 76. I am 61. I'm a smoker with a lot of other health problems. After my official diagnosis (see how pessimistic I am!) what questions should I ask? My husband had lung cancer, which metatastised to brain, bone, spine, and liver, and emphysema.
