Have you tried Chantix? If you have ins go to your doctor and ask him for chantix. It's a rx designed to block the nicotine receptors. You smoke while taking the med the first week and then you stop smoking, but continue the medicine. After the first week you will notice the cravings are mental but not so much physical. You can google "chantix" and you can learn more about it. I am 30 and have smoking since 12, it's the hardest habit to break.

my wife is taking chantix to stop smoking and when she finishes the first month of chantix can she then take welbutrin as it is not as strong. The chantix is giving her bad dreams.

I'm not too sure but I do know my friend killed himself because of that drug.

I also smoke and have gotten a perscription for Chantix. It is supposed to help me stop smoking. It releases dopamine slowly in your body to help you fight your cravings. My question is this: can Chantix also help with coming off of these pills? any advice will be very appreciated. I will post again to tell my story. Is that the stop smoking thingy? I think it's the same as "Champix" here in Canada, and I have the entire program sitting in my medicine cabinet... I heard some nasty stuff about them both,regarding side effects, but not sure how true they are....

I have a question for anyone on synthroid who used Chantix as an aid to quit smoking. Have you had any reactions between the synthroid & chantix? I really want to quit smoking. . .I quit for 2 months prior to my surgery and for about 2 months after, but alas I started again. . .I checked a drug interaction web site and it didn't list any interactions, but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience. Also, former smokers who didn't use chantix, what worked for you?

I am now on day number 8 of taking Chantix - still smoking but have cut back. Yesterday, I started the 1 mg twice per day dose and within an hour of my a.m. dose, started itching like crazy. Benedryl gives some relief. It continued throughout the night and this morning. I do not have hives, difficulty breathing or anything like that - just itching that is driving me crazy. Anyone else had this problem with chantix?

I hear chantix is a miracle drug for those who want to quit smoking. I think they are the same company that makes some antidepressants. However, I also read that people became suicidal on it and heard that people actually commited suicide. I have severe anxiety and other related mental problems and am so scared to take that drug but I need to quit smoking. Anyone who is on antidepressants took chantix?

I would ask your doctor if it is metabolized in the liver or the kidneys - thats generally one of the ways we figure out what we can take or not. "CHANTIX should not be taken with other quit-smoking products. You may need a lower dose of CHANTIX if you have kidney problems or get dialysis." It looks to me like it's the kidneys but ask a doctor to be sure about that and any other problem we might not think about as patients.

just curious....how long have you been taking Chantix, and can you stop taking Chantix without the need to have either a cigarette or a Chantix 'fix'??

First thing...stop the Chantix. Yes, in many people even those with no history of major depression Chantix is proven to have the potential to cause depression. There are better ways to stop smoking than to alter your brain chemistry.

Hi I actually have a really big question. a freind of mine said she wants to stop smoking and im just wondering what i can do to help her.she says she also uses some 'no stop' pills or something to help her from feeling sad or tired. i also heard recently that nicotine patches are useless.is this true?

ve never been a smoker, but I can only imagine how extremely hard it would be to cut down and stop altogether...but if there was ever a time to stop, it would be now. Don't take the risk. If you find out you are pregnant on 3/6, wouldn't it be refreshing to know you quit smoking and started out the pregnancy fresh and healthy? Don't do it, just say no! : ) Your baby deserves it and so do you!

hi kimmie, good luck with the quitting smoking - I did it in January after 35+ years. My recent stress makes me think I would be chain smoking if I hadn't quit! Did they give you a rx for chantix or something else? My stop smoking was done cold turkey but think "wow." I quit while in the hospital from a heart attack.

well I also have MS and I got Pnemmeonia so the doc wanted me to stop smoking...so he put me on chantrix.... long story short here it is 4 months later and I can't get ahold of my moods... I am on 200 MGs of topamax 100 mgof clonopin for the anxiety anantydprsent (*can't remeber the name and I am not home to look at the bottle) ps please excuse the speeling it's the topamax I feel like a freaking idiot!!! I am currently on Norco 500 mg. 3 xs daily and prozac, and chantix to stop smoking. im sure they will let me know in 5 days when I start treatment. also r there certain foods or liquids that r good/bad for u while treating.

I'm happy to hear that you put them down again, and yes, the craving can get to you, and you cannot beat yourself up but you might want to finish your chantix and then buy another and wean off them. I used Chantix and while taking them for a period of time I found that they really helped...no craves at all, I also realized that once I stopped, I had to deal with w/d, physical and emotional and that's when whyquit really helped me.

I've had an awful experience that I must share and find out if anyone else has gone through it. I currently take Lexapro 10mg, a mild antidepressant, and it's wonderful for me. wellbutrin is great also to stop smoking but it is also and antidepressant. Also if you take it make sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure. It raised mine through the roof with no blood pressure problems to begin with.
