Hi! I recently developed swolen tonsils and bleeding gums, this after smoking particularly more than I usually do. I however have had sex regulary with different partners, always with condom. I've been reading a lot about hiv and it scares me the fact that I have swollen tonsils and my gums are bleeding but I just have those 2 symptoms, nothing else, no rash, no night sweats, no joint pain. Could it be related more to my smoking habit rather than hiv?

Well, I probably dont need to tell you that smoking is defintnely not good for your gums or teeth.
1. I would go see your dentist as soon as poosbile if your gums are persistanly bleeding as it is indicitive of gingivitis or periodontal disease.
2. You need to brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day, preferably before going to bed.
3. I would also add rinsing your mouth with listerine once in the morning and again at night after brushing and flossing..
Awhhh. I've always had bleeding gums. And even my dentist in the military didn't know what was up. Honestly, I brush my teeth hard, spit out the blood.. Rinse.. Then mouth wash. It stings a little, but the bleeding stops.
STOP SMOKING! There is no question that smoking is a significant etiological factor in periodontal disease. I do not know what is causing the " rough stinging" of your gums. The out pocketing of the bone is called a torus and is quite normal.I hope your are seeing a periodontist to evaluate the pocketing and your overall periodontal condition.
The best solution is to floss your teeth on a regular basis, and for now it should be nearly every day, until your gums stop bleeding, then you switch to two or three times a week as a regular thing. Find a floss that is waxed so it won't hurt so much. Rinse your mouth, floss, rinse again, then brush your teeth like normal. Within maybe two months, you should notice a big difference, and hopefully your gums will stop bleeding.
I used to think it was my gums bleeding from brushing my teeth, and whenever I spit out phlegm in the morning I figured the blood had gotten mixed up. I brush my teeth three times a day, and I was told I should have no problems with bleeding gums if I brush regularly. This morning I decided to see if it was blood in my phlegm or blood in my gums so before I brushed my teeth I spat out some phlegm, and surely there was small portions of blood on it.
t recommend it anyways. Make sure you maintain your hygiene and brush/floss properly to keep your gums healthy. Smoking does contribute to gum disease as well as a host of other diseases throughout. Obviously I'd recommend you quit.
In gingivitis there are swollen gums, bad breath, easily bleeding of the gums during flossing or brushing and gums may appear red-colored. Scurvy can lead to swollen bleeding gums, weakness, joint pains and muscle pains. In periodontitis there is soft tissue and bone deterioration with tender swollen gums. A few days ago my gums started hurting around 6 (my teeth are bunched togather) of my lower right teeth starting at the middle front one. At the front one the gum has almost disapeared over a few years for a reason i do not know. And now a few of the gums are pussing. I keep swishing a mix of 3/4 water and 1/4 peroxide around them twise a day but keeps happening. I dont have money for a dentised and my medicaid doesnt cover any withen 50 miles of my home.
I understand the risk is low however everywhere I look it says bleeding gums this bleeding gums that, it’s makes sense how it could get into my blood stream via bleeding gums if he did have the virus. I don’t know if it’s worth stressing over for 2 more months until I can have a 99% accurate test or just move on. Any response is appreciated.
m writing to ask how you would evaluate the risk in giving oral sex while having bleeding gums. I have had a few encounters with a man I have been going out with and have recently noticed blood after brushing. I also see some blood when pressure is applied to parts of my gums. While I've already made an appointment with my dentist, I wanted to ask out of curiosity how risky the encounters have been.
