smoking

Avatar f tn I started getting ready to stop smoking about 5yrs ago. I decided not to smoke in my car anymore. I suffer from anxiety, so I'm never away from the house for more than 2hrs max and I figured I could at LEAST go without a cigarette that long. At the time, I felt like this alone was an enormous accomplishment and it helped me to start thinking like a non-smoker, I had been a smoker for 33yrs before I quit last July.
Avatar n tn I desperately need some advice about how to go about kicking tobacco. I have been smoking for almost ten years and I made a choice recently to quit. I am ready, however, I am thinking about trying bupropian as an aide. I do not know anyone who has used this product and I am really nervous about trying it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is my only attempt at quitting and I do not wish to fail.
Avatar f tn One of the things that helped me was the timeline of how my body was recovering from quitting smoking. Does anyone know of a similar timeline for quitting opiates, specifically hydrocodone? I know it depends on age, dose, and how long using, but a generalized timeline would be great. Again, I'm not talking about the wd symptoms, but how the body recovers. Thanks!
13021194 tn?1428352242 7 years ago, my doctor told me to gradually stop smoking. Not good for baby to just stop cold turkey. This time for me, prior to getting pregnant, I had switched to an ecig. That has helped a lot. Before I was pregnant, I took out the nicotine, so, I can still vape for the habit, but there's nothing in it. My husband makes the juice himself, so we know exactly what it is and where it comes from.
Avatar f tn According to a study by Sir Richard Doll and colleagues that appeared in the BMJ in 2004, people who were able to stop smoking before they were thirty years of age lived almost as long as those who had never picked up a cigarette. The researchers also discovered that three years of healthy life were added to people who stopped smoking in their sixties.
Avatar n tn I looked and only found the health page about preparing for your doctor visit - it has some very useful tips. I could swear there is a page somewhere about constructing your timeline. Here's my timeline that I took for my first neuro vist, as well as a list of my doctors, dates of health events and tests, and what drugs I am on. Maybe between Rena's and mine you can get inspired to think about what had led up to this point. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Clopidogrel is a short term medication, there is no evidence supporting benefits after a period of one year. Your big problem is the cigarettes, even one a day is no good for your arteries. I know it's hard, but you need to stop smoking and this is your wake up call. You will probably see a good improvement in blood pressure and oxygen levels when you stop, as well as feeling like you have more energy. If you have a lot of stress in your life, find ways to either manage it or rid it.
Avatar f tn A lung disease that, if not caused by cigarette smoking, will without any doubt be worsened by smoking. It is also a signal that if you do not stop smoking, your lung function will increasingly continue to rapidly deteriorate.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.
1225279 tn?1295545587 With all medications you must ask yourself... do the benefits out weigh the risks. If there are no benefits for you smoking other then the fact you are addicted then, ya, when you are ready it is probably time to stop. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1265067/health_benefits_of_smoking_cigarettes.html In my case I have bad pain all over my body, Bipolar 1, anxiety (no it doesnt help that). But for the bipolar and pain, ya I noticed a difference when I quit for more then a month.
4864455 tn?1361501129 From what i know she could continue breast feeding, breast milk is constantly producing, as soon as she stops smoking her breast milk should clear up. The baby still benefits more from breast milk if she is smoking. Formula is ok but the baby doesn't get antibodies and such. Best thing for both however is for her to quit until no longer feeding.

Avatar m tn re probably eating poorly, and my guess is, if you get up the discipline to stop the smoking and moderate the drinking, you'll really feel great -- underneath that chemically weakened body is probably an incredibly healthy person. Don't stop the tea -- it's great -- but don't think it's suddenly made you invulnerable.
Avatar f tn Thankfully I quit before I got pregnant. What helped me was to write down all of the reasons why I decided to quit. When I had a craving I would having something else, gum, candy or even suck on a cinnamon stick. Everyone is different you have to find something that will work for you. Once I noticed the benefits to not smoking, I didn't want to smoke anymore. One of the best changes I've ever made.
1262435 tn?1270311859 I have been told and so many others with heart problems to stop smoking. I am about to do so, with deep belief that smokig is a major source for many many heart and other deseases. I have seen many doctors, and they all advice to syop smoking but NO ONE is realy convincing in their advice, no real and professional explanation to ordinary people. We see warnings on cigarette packs with no scientific and convincing explanations.
Avatar f tn I've talked to the lady that assists me with WIC, even though I don't smoke. And what she said makes sense. Her personal opinion on the matter is that, even if you do smoke, It's recommended to still breast feed. Because even though you're taking in the bad things from the cigarettes, the baby is still getting amazing nutrients that it wouldn't get if you bottle feed. It's your decision, in the end though. Many people feel very differently than this, and that's okay.
Avatar m tn Do you have to do the full 36 weeks? Can you stop at 24? New data out suggest no benefits of doing the full 48 weeks vs 24 weeks. Maybe different for non responders and you want to keep the foot on the throat.
Avatar n tn I get the same kind of pain in the same place you are describing, but it seems to stop when I stop taking some alcohol-based herbal drops I've tried. I don't think I've got 'Bell's Palsy of the Gut' as it's sometimes called when there is digestive system involvement, but you might read up on that if you're interested. And in case I forgot to say so above, I'm not medically trained and neither is anyone else here that I know of ...
Avatar f tn There's a prescription medication used for smoking cessation called Chantix. It's helped many people stop smoking. It has some benefits to some opiate addicts for craving control as well. That's the only way I'd try to stop smoking so soon after stoping the opiates.
