i am 21 years old and have been biting my nails practically all my life...About 3 months ago(1 month before i started college again...).i had gel nails put on for 1 month(every 2 weeks costed me R600+-).then they were growing so nice for 1 month and what do you know ? start biting them again at the moment both my index fingers are horribly chewed.i dont know what the possible cause may be? i havent been to a doctor to see whether i suffer from depression or something???
Interestingly, when I was pregnant I stopped biting my nails. However, when I was no longer pregnant I began again. The nails come in stronger during pregnancy and I think hormones are involved in this somehow. I also find that if I cut out caffiene the biting can lessen a lot.

I find that if I get a ragged edge on my nail, I am completely unable to combat biting and of course that just makes it worse.
I impulsively bite my nails. Once i start, i cannot stop. If i have nailpolish on, i still bite them.... I also pick at my cuticles. This is bad. I have a nail biting problem.
My nails are chewed down past my fingertips. My ring fingernails are shortest, at about an eight of an inch long. The skin where my nails used to be is scarred and ugly. Despite the intense pain and bleeding, I can't stop biting my nails. When I can't get a grip on the nail with my teeth, I find myself picking at them with a knife, nail clippers, pencil, or whatever's on hand.

I'm a 14 yr old girl with a great life most of the time, not much drama and i do well at school with stress only during the really big tests so i dont understand why i bite my nails and do so till they bleed. My reasons for biting my skin and nails i believe is because i am constantly anxious and over think things in my head which cause me to be stressed out. My main problem at the moment is with this habit and it is most probably due to the fact that i have some kind of obsessive disorder where i see putting my hands to my mouth as a means of comfort and self soothing and to be honest that is exactly the type of relief that i get when i do it.

My Finger had small cut one hour before the exposure. It was a very small cut which occurred while biting skin and nails. There was a small blood clot which was less than 1mm and was dried up while fingering. There was no sex or any other encounter between us.
After 5 weeks I started experiencing throat pain, congestion and throat irritation. I feel like having cold. No other symptom I have. I checked my temperature too which was close to 99 in evening and normal in morning.

Not sure why biting one's nails would "damage" them. It can annoy onlookers, but all you're doing is cutting your nails with your teeth instead of a tool. How wide the pink is I'm guessing is more dependent on who you are than anything else. Health and length of nails is dependent on your diet. I bit my nails for years as well, and when I stopped, they just grow now and I have to take the time to cut them. I preferred biting them, frankly.
