Hi and sorry you are ill. There is no such thing as "stomach flu" meaning the influenza virus does not cause flu in the stomach. It is considered gastroenteritis. The symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, low grade fever up to 100 degrees and possible cramps are caused by many things, virus or bacterial. However, the most common cause is a virus called Norovirus. It is spead from person to person by fecal oral contamination.

Then three days later on the Friday my husband started vomiting and having diarrhea every 10 minutes or so I brought him in and they gave him the same thing and sent him home. Saturday he had a fever of 102 so I brought him back and they kept him overnight. They did multiple blood tests and stool cultures but all they found was a slightly elevated white blood cell count and his stool culture came back clean so they aren't sure what it was.

I'm 6 months pregnant and I believe I have a stomach virus. I've been up since 3 am with diarrhea and throwing up non-stop. I've called my primary care doctor 3 times with no answer and I have an appointment tomorrow with my OB doctor. What can I do or should I do in the mean time?

m 27 weeks and I have been sick for 4 days stomach pains, body chills, breaking out in sweat at night, vomiting and then non stop diarrhea today...ugh. Everytime I get out the bed I have to run to the bathroom. My kids have experienced similar symptoms so that makes me think it may be a virus. My Dr says if it continues to come in on Monday but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar. If so what worked for you????

I'm pregnant and on top of being sick already, I now have a wonderful stomach virus. Is there anything anyone can recommend? I can stay out of the restroom and literally on the toilet with a bucket in front of me.

5 year old that is not a simple stomach virus!! It worried me when I read that he had vomiting and diarrhea for so long but now his stomach is distended!! I worked as an EMT for a number of years and a distended stomach is usually a sign of something more complicated than a stomach virus!! Please let us know how it turns out. I agree with mammo if you can't get him into a gastroenterologist take him to the ER...

So, it could be the stomach virus. You're still sick even if you inhibit vomiting. Glad that worked for you! The other possibility is that perhaps you had a touch of food poisoning but with your house having a stomach virus, likely you did as well and while the meds you took (don't take someone else's meds, take only what is prescribed by a doctor for you personally)--- stopped vomiting, it doesn't mean you didn't have the virus and other effects of it.

This was also puzzling as hell to me but apparently some people (like me I guess) can have their vasovagal nerve stimulated during gastoinstenitis times or times of diarrhea--though I have never once felt faint when having ordinary diarrhea in the past. This diarrhea was associated w/a stomach virus however and I did vomit a couple times early in the sequence...after vomiting it was diarrhea only thereafter. Anyhow if anyone has any insight I'd greatly appreciate it.

A week ago I came down with a pretty bad stomach bug. Fever, nausea/vomiting, chills, terrible diarrhea. I gave my body the weekend to feel better but each day I woke up feeling slightly worse than the day before. The nausea and diarrhea were unbearable. When Monday morning rolled aeound I figured I'd better see a doctor. I went to Urgent Care and got a bag of I.V. fluids and 8mg of Zofran intravenously. I was extremely dehydrated and it definitely helped!

I woke up Friday vomiting and diarrhea. The vomiting stopped after one day, but on Sunday, I still have diarrhea and my ovaries have hurt the entire time. My period is about to start, but my ovaries have never hurt more than 1 day before I start. Help!

Hello I woke up Sunday feeling nauseous, no vomiting. My stomach felt very full. Was belching all day and no appetite. Verry little bowel movements. Yesterday still a bit nauseous, bowel movements very little, mixture of semi solid and diarrhea.. today had the same symptoms.. feel very tired and week and have a headache?? any help?

she has been seen every time she get sick she gets severe vomiting severe diarrhea stomach cramps and leg pain they all ways say it is virus but no one else ever gets sick. she is going to a gastro doc i am just trying to get ideas because i am thinking the worst. I wish I knew what it was. I am in the same boat. I have the sulfur burps. Sometimes the vomiting comes first followed by diarrhea quickly after the burps start. Sometimes I have the burps still on the 2nd day then diarrhea starts which is the case today. Other times I only have vomiting follow soon after the burps start. This is happening more frequently as time goes by. I am having a very hard time getting a Dr to run tests to find out the cause.

It could still be a stomach virus, however, it could be a bacteria or even parasite. I recenlty had a stomach virus that lasted about 7-8 days. Have you ever been tested for or diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)? Your headaches could very well be a sign of dehydration - with all the diarrhea, you can get dehydrated pretty quickly. Be sure and stay well hydrated - water, ginger ale, sports type drinks are all good.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community! It might be an appendicitis. If it was just a stomach virus causing the pain he probably would have had diarrhea or vomiting. Even though the appendix is located more to the right, the pain can something be in a different place. I would recommend taking him to the ER asap and asking for a CT scan with contrast of his abdomen. Good luck.

I know exactly what you mean. About 6 years ago I had a horrible stomach virus that lasted for 5 days. By day 5 I couldn't even touch my stomach. So went to the Dr. He did blood tests and found out I had had pancreatitis. Went for every test under the sun with a GI Dr.through the next 3-6 months. Endoscopy showed inflammation of the stomach lining. I had a MRCP, which is an endoscopy where they look at your gallbladder and they found some sludge.

There's a stomach virus going around everywhere with vomiting and diarrhea that's possibly what you've contracted. Usually within the first 24-48hrs will it subside if not I recommend you be hospitalized due to possible dehydration which can send one into preterm labor and i said (can) not will.

Same stomach virus hit my whole house last week. I'm 12 weeks, even with all the vomiting I continued to drink water and ginger ale and even though most of it didn't stay down my dr said I held off dehydration because your body's going to get some of it before it comes back up....it's a horrible horrible virus...I hope you feel better soon.

I posted earlier about how i've been vomiting and having diarrhea since 1 am. Also mild stomach cramps.. Decided I was going to go to the hospital because I feel sick and.don't want to eat or drink anything and on top of that everyone in my house has the stomach virus..

I am a 24 year old female. In early June I had a stomach virus consisting of intense nausea and diarrhea as well as aches and general malaise. Since then (now mid October) I have experienced recurring nausea which is worse at night. It keeps me awake and I can hear and feel my stomach churning. My bad "attacks" occur about once a week, sometimes more or less frequently, lasting about 24 hours.
