Avatar n tn t correct the underlying problem, but it can alleviate a good deal of the pain associated with ulcers by reducing the amount of stomach acid (the actual substance causing the pain). Omeprazole and other PPIs can and do give ulcer patients a better quality of life while they heal.

Avatar m tn It may be gastritis or ulcer, these are actually two stages of the same process. They both usually start wit H. pylori infection, what causes increased acid secretion and leads toward gastritis or ulcer. It can't be said from the outside, if it is ulcer or not - only upper endoscopy would show that. But before this, just go and have breath test for H. pylori. If positive, it is treated with 2 weeks antibiotics. You can continue with omeprazole, but speak with the doctor about it.
Avatar n tn Stomach pain that comes on right side after eating can be due to duodenal ulcer, liver infection, pancreatic infection, gall stones or gall bladder infection. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. Consult a doctor. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Having hunger like pangs and some dull burn in my stomach right at bottom of my sternum. Stomach gets noisy at times either while eating or a few hours afterwards. Have gas off and on and flatulence. Have been taking Omeprazole OTC and seems to help some. Been like this for going on 6 weeks. No bloody stool or vomiting. I have bowel movement every morning with nothing out of the normal as far as stool changes. Pretty much the same every time in color and consistency.
Avatar f tn Your cousin would need a combination of medications (under medical supervision) like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into by a carbon urea breath test and a combination antibiotic tried. Many a times a persisting H pylori infection can be the cause behind acidity not responding to treatment.
Avatar f tn The major symptom of an ulcer is a burning or gnawing feeling in the stomach area that lasts between 30 minutes and 3 hours. This pain is often interpreted as heartburn, indigestion or hunger. The pain usually occurs in the upper abdomen, but sometimes it may occur below the breastbone. In some individuals the pain occurs immediately after eating. In other individuals, the pain may not occur until hours after eating. The pain frequently awakens the person at night.

Avatar m tn Since I was previously on a prescription anti inflammatory for tennis elbow my doctor thought it was a stomach ulcer. After a month of omeprazole I was no better and had a stool test for H.Pylori which came up negative. Since then I've been suffering in silence trying to figure out if I can solve the problem myself by changing my diet or taking over the counter medication but have had no luck. The problem now seems to be more associated with my abdomen.
Avatar m tn Do you have a family history of duodenal ulcer. Duodenal ulcer can also be caused by alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, tobacco, taking NSAID's aspirin, brufen e.t.c. The most common cause is the infection with H.Pylori. Does the pain cause you to wake up in the midnight. About fifty percent of patients with duodenal ulcers awake during the night with pain, usually between midnight and three a.m. Duodenal ulcers respond well to treatment, so relax and get yourself checked.
Avatar m tn Was given endoscopy and prescribed omeprazole (40mg) until next endoscopy in one year. Was told the pain should go away in about a month. It's been about 2 months and the pain is still just as bad. Could I not have a hernia or ulcer and could this have been overlooked somehow in the endoscopy?

Avatar f tn t play football for a longtime, when playing or running, I will feel a very tiring ache in my stomach, which I will need to rest and fart before it would go away. I later discovered am having ulcer and I start using omeprazole to suppress it. Am confused about my whole digestive system. Anyone has a clue about what could be happening to me?
Avatar m tn Not sure about the ulcer....but I do know it can take time to heal after being DX'd with H. Pylori....
Avatar m tn Also you could have too much stomach acid. You would try over the counter Zantac and see if this helps or omeprazole. But omeprazole can cause diarrhea in a lot of people so if that happens stop taking it. Just take it once as directed on the box and see if it helps your stomach. I would see a doctor and see if they can figure out which of these things it is. They may want to do an upper GI test or an ultrasound of the gallbladder/liver kidney. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn The burping went away with the anxiety. My stomach burned so bad I thought I had an ulcer. You can get prevacid or prilosec over the counter. Either one should help. Good luck and excuse yourself!
Avatar f tn I use to take iron pills 325mg twice a day, omeprazole 20mg twice a day, I drink malox or pepto bismuth to try and coat the stomach. At the ER they gave me narcos to help with pain. I just refuse to take that. But anyway I am 5'3, 115 pds, 45 yrs old. I understand how important it is to see a GI specialists but I can not afford it. My insurance want pay for it because they said this was a already existing condition before I got the insurance.
Avatar n tn Let your mother take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Possibility of H pylori infection, hiatal hernia and gastric reflux should be looked into. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause.
