Avatar f tn Decreasing excess stomach acid can help the ulcer heal. Amoxicillin and clarithromycin are antibiotics used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections (including H. pylori). Treating the infection helps reduce the risk of the ulcer returning. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic and clarithromycin is a macrolide-type antibiotic. They work by stopping the growth of bacteria. The antibiotics in this product treat only bacterial infections.
Avatar f tn So for the ulcer to heal and to reduce acid levels avoid NSAIDs, quit smoking, eliminate alcohol and reduce stress levels. OTC antacids and antibiotics to treat H pylori further aid in therapy. Please consult your primary care physician for proper assessment. Regards.
Avatar m tn Medical treatment for healing of ulcer is Proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole for 2 weeks which will reduce acid secretion and heal the ulcer. Eradication of H-pylori infection (an organism found in the bowel) by using antibiotics will promote ulcer healing. Regards.
Avatar n tn if she has taken this every day for 25+ years, it is time to look for alternatives anyway. switching from the kind with aspirin to the kind with tylenol will allow the ulcer to heal (hopefully)...however, it increases the chances of liver damage. at 25 years, she should have her liver checked anyway since barbiturates are notorious for causing damage. adding tylenol to the mix will only make these chances increase....
Avatar f tn Dr. Watters, I recently came across an article stating that St. John's Wort can interact with ppi's making them less effective. I've been taking St. John's Wort 3x a day the entire time I've been trying to heal a small stomach ulcer with no results. What do you think the chances are that the St. John's Wort is the reason that Protonix and Dexilant didn't help?

Avatar n tn Ibuprofen may cause strong gastritis, even ulcer. Any acid, which comes into contact with an ulcer, causes pain. Wine is basically an acid. To make an exact diagnosis (gastritis or ulcer...), gastroscopy would be needed - this was already done? Pepto-Bismol releaves your pain? Interesting. When you say pain in the stomach - you mean exactly stomach - or entire abdomen?
Avatar f tn I get the same thing - told by doc that is was GERD and IBS - which is so general, I don't believe. I belief it is LOW acid in the stomach - so low it can't digest foods. The stomach is naturally acidic which is how it breaks down food. What I have done since is take a half shot of true apple cider vinegar 5 mins. before eating each normal meal. breakfast, lunch dinner - and eat a little less at each serving - let your stomach adjust to digesting food properly.

Avatar m tn I have GI appointment at the end of the month. Is it possible to have a stomach ulcer for 6 months?
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with a stomach ulcer via endoscopy. I’ve been having the symptoms on and off for over a year. I had been taking low dose aspirin everyday for a few years before this, and stopped taking it over 6 months ago. I get a burning/gnawing pain in the center of my upper abdomen that is usually better after I eat a large meal. I get bloating also. It feels worse if I am upset or stressed and also if I do excersize that causes me to tense my ab muscles.
Avatar n tn I think it always takes some time for Nexium to work because the acid has caused a burn on this delicate tissue, and it takes a while for it to heal. In your case it has progressed all the way to an ulcer, so I don't think it's surprising if it takes months for this to heal. You could get tested for Celiac disease. If you are allergic to gluten, only stopping gluten will stop GERD symptoms for you.
Avatar f tn My question is do you believe that this is indeed a stomach ulcer? If it is a stomach ulcer then how long would it take for a PPI such as Dexilant to help alleviate the symptoms? Thank you for your time and sorry for the long post.
Avatar f tn I think of two things one is an infection if you had a productive cough or sore throat. THe other is perhaps it is bile from the gallbladder or a stomach ulcer something along those lines might fit since you have a lack of appetite as well and constipation. You may be backed up due to the constipation. I would see a GI doctor and have them give you an exam as well as perhaps some scans.
Avatar m tn infection with helicobacter pylori and use of nonsteroidal anti inflammatory medications (NSAID). Avatar m tn JerryJohn5 here again with some news that clears the picture a little more. The reason the stomach lining issue came to be, was an incident where a colon cleanser, a strong one was taken before church and a latte with soy was drank very soon afterwards resulting in a burning stabbing pain in the high stomach that when finally stopped gave the symptoms above in the first comment. After a couple of days of researching this very sensitive stomach lining a Dr.
