I have had no history of any abdominal or bm problems in the past. I also now have occasional pain in my Right upper quadrant by my 3-4th rib from the bottom.

There are many possible causes for blood in the stool. If you're blood is bright red and seen on top of the stool and on the toilet paper indicates that the blood in coming from fairly low, either the rectum or end of the colon. This could be from hemmorhoids, a fissure, or inflamation in your colon. Seeing as you do have a history of cancer in your family, and your father did have precancerous polyps removed, i would strongly suggest you call your doctor and arrange to have a colonoscopy.
when i was dx i was having lots of mucus. when i did have blood i would have pain in my lower stomach an i would have to go to the bathroom right away. my blood was on my poo. when i had my colon thingy they said i had the start of Colitis.
If you have blood in your stool it will usually be very black or you could actually pass red blood...If you are having any stomach pain that you cant explain then you should probably let your dr. check you. One thing to remember if you have been taking pepto bismol or any antacid then it usually will turn your stools black....Something in the medicine causes it to turn colors...If that is the case then stop taking them for a week and see if your stools clear up....But i would still call the DR..

If you have loose stools with blood and mucus in stools with crampy pain in stomach, it could be due to infection (bacterial/amebic) and you need to have stool microscopy done for confirmation it. The other possibility is of inflammatory bowel disease. Other causes of blood in stools are aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, polyps (small growths) and malignant growths of tissue. Diagnosis is by ultrasound abdomen. in some cases sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy may be needed.
I have been diagnosed with Diverticulosis but I have not been able to get a colonoscopy. (Financial reasons) I have severe stomach pain and have dark purple and sometimes bright red blood in my stool. My stool is never normal. It comes out like pebbles and it looks like it has a layer of fat/oily or clearish white substance that incircles each pebble. I have had hernia surgery and have had 2 feet of intestines removed. Could you give me some insight please before I go to another Dr?
Do you remember if the blood was in or ON the stool? Do you have any pain around the rectum? Do you have a history of hemorrhoids? If the blood is on the stool instead of actually in it, it may be bleeding from a hemorrhoid or bleeding from right inside or outside the rectum. Usually brighter red blood comes from the lower end of the colon. Hopefully this is the case and may not be much to worry about. Have you had any other symptoms, such as stomach or intestinal pain?
Over the last week I have had major amount of blood in my stool. For me this wasnt much of an alarm because I have had blood in my stool off and on for probably 15 years but never to this extent. I have had two colonoscopies.. one in March of 2001 where I had small edenoma polyps that were removed. A repeat colonoscopy done in Nov 2004 was done and more edenoma(very small) polyps were removed with the doctor saying to come back in 4 years.
Now I'm worried because every night I have this burning gnawing pain in the pit of my stomach and I can't see a doctor or get tests. I don't eat bad but I don't eat as good as I should and I do eat late. Im worried about a ulcer . For the last 12 days I have been taking Tylenol everyday for these headaches and thought it was ok because its better to take then advill etc.
