987338 tn?1248974040 You're right that your stomach will be transiently smaller if you eat less food. But keep in mind that this temporarily smaller stomach size won't be help you to lose weight in the future. The reason why gastric bypass surgery is successful is because it makes you feel so full after eating smaller quantities of food that it retrains your body and mind with respect to what hunger and satiety feel like and what amount of food is needed to satisfy you.

Avatar f tn m starting to think it must be my stomach. Had bariatric surgery 12 yrs ago. Oh yes, my hair is rapidly falling out. Thank you for letting me post this.
Avatar n tn s entirely up to you, but surgery is, typically, a last resort type thing, after all other methods of weight loss have failed. If you've never tried anything else. you don't know if you can succeed or not. While genes have some to do with it, being overweight doesn't necessarily have to be hereditary... you can try to make lifestyle changes in your diet and exercise routines and possibly lose weight without surgery. Many people have been able to do so.

Avatar f tn What were you able to eat after the surgery? Did you have to take any kind of pain pills afterwards? I am freaked out about it as I have heard so many people have problems afterwards. I just had a total thyroidectomy by the same surgeon and it was a piece of cake, very easy, no pain at all ten days ago. June will be the next two surgeries at once. I am afraid I may have to spend one or two nights in the hospital when I have both at once.
Avatar n tn Please tell me what type of physician performs Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication. So far, I have gotten found only General Surgeons, and even one Surgeon who performs Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery (my father is NOT overweigt) using Laproscopic procedures. If we know what type of physician performs Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, then we can start consulting with them to find the surgeon my father is most comfortable with.

Avatar n tn When I had a resection surgery the day of surgery I weighed 128 lbs. After some time and numerous flare-ups, plus being on prednisone for a long time my weight spiked to over 300 lbs. BTW my crohn's WAS in remission until recently and I'm on Humira hoping that it goes back into remission. I highly doubt that ANY doctor would do a bariactric surgery on a patient that has their Crohn's disease that is fairly active. I had a heart attack last year and actually lost about 40 lbs.
Avatar f tn I just had bariatric surgery in January of this year. I'm documenting all I eat and how much I exercise. But I'm still not losing the weight I should. I did just turn 40, so could that have a factor in my weight loss. Not to mention I've lowered my calorie intake to 500 or less per day. What can I do to make my weight loss happen faster?
Avatar n tn A recent bout of gastroparesis return required a repeat of hospitalizations, dehydration, renal failure etc. I restarted my domperidone after reglan nor erythromycin worked. I also took amitiza aftyer zelnorm went off market. Supposedly I went into CHF due to tyhe Domperidone & a cardiac issue, ICU , adrenal glands shut down, kidneys didn't work. This was miserable I ended up on massive steroids weight gain blah, blah , blah.
Avatar f tn I am going in for Bariatric Surgery and I am suppose to be nicotine free for 2-3 months prior to Surgery. I have slipped a few times and am wondering if the blood test would detect my slip ups from 2 weeks ago. I have been flushing my system with water and did a detox/cleanse kit from GNC to help. Also, if you are with people who are heavy smokers (my parents) and I don't smoke with them, would their nicotine/smoke get into my system that would screw up a nicotine blood test?

Avatar f tn Is it safe to go under anesthesia for bariatric surgery with a little bubble the size of a dime. Surgery is scheduled for 9 days away. The eye doc thought it would be gone by now but it isn't.
Avatar f tn Can u tell me if it's true that as a bariatric patient, I dint absorb meds the same . I take and have been taking a very high dose of percs. 2-3 10/325 every few hours. I function and work on these. I really believe I don't absorb these all the way. There are many posts all over the web with ppl saying the same but I was wondering if anyone knew for sure.
Avatar f tn I am considering having bariatric surgery in Mexico. My husband is having it in the US, I don't qualify for it here under our insurance so am researching self-pay medical tourism. I was leaning toward lap-band, but there are so many post-surgery horror stories for fills, adjustments, slippage, etc. and I became concerned about post-surgery complications once I return to the states.
Avatar n tn I have a friend who has had bariatric surgery. She is 4 yrs out and is now having problems with iron retention. she is going to have iron repletion therapy. she has had all the tests to rule out bleeding. Question is what is iron repletion therapy and what side effects does this have.
Avatar n tn If so, please follow the advise after surgery and for at least 2 weeks stay on full liquids. invest in a blener and chopper. On a full liquid you can have mashed potatoes and potato soup that is blended. Just try and only eat a cup at one time. This will help prevent the gas in the shoulders that cause so much pain. You can eat every couple of hours or if you are really hungry try every hour. Try to space it to every 2 if possible. But only eat a cup at one sitting.
Avatar n tn Taking pain pills and antibiotics for sever pain in lower right abdomen. Then my Dr. sent me to start Remicade. After just a few treatments I was feeling so much better. By the way, I developed chrons late in life, I know it usually strikes young people. Then I found that I had a fistula and surgery had to be done. They took out about 2 feet of small intestine and did bowel resection.
