Common Questions and Answers about Stomach contractions in dogs

contractions

Avatar f tn It's too early, the fetus is teeny weeny inside a nice cushion of amniotic fluid. However, I'd discourage her from launching in such a way, it's not the greatest habit anyway. My son kicked me in the stomach (not hard) in early pregnancy and I lost the pregnancy, and although I pretty much know the two are not related, I stressed about it anyway and emotionally sort of felt like that hurt the pregnancy. You don't want to stress every time Fifi kicks off.
Avatar n tn our dog a lab has been diagnosed, after surgery with class 2 mast cell in her stomach. what are her odds.
Avatar f tn I am 36+5 and am having an odd experience was hoping someone can tell me whats going on. my stomach is going hard like with contractions but there is no pain and under the belly button is going flat when this happens. It feels very strange and is happening every few minutes. Any thought about what might be happening.
Avatar m tn You can try getting a small bag of Pro Plan Salmon for Sensitive stomachs and transition to that. I would add water to it as kibble absorbs the water in the stomach. Where people produce bile after eating, dogs produce it before eating. I suggest you try giving him his usual allotment of food but divide into 3-4 feedings a day. You can give Pepcid but your Vet should be consulted on that and the dose.
Avatar n tn Oops! You posted on the Dogs forum! I think the Gastroenterology forum is what you're looking for. In the meantime, pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen can indicate a problem with your gallbladder. You might notice that your symptoms are worse with a large, fat-laden meal in that case. Whatever it is, it's time to see your doctor.
Avatar f tn Yes, trying to kid some dogs with their medication can be an uphill struggle. Dogs have an extraordinary good sense of smell, and probably guessed there were pills in her food even before she got close to her bowl. You could ask your vet if the pills can be crushed, as this would probably make it easier. I just wanted to mention the fact that you regularly give your dog milk ... unfortunately, milk is not good for dogs, so I would stop this straight away.
1653498 tn?1301884743 It is uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing, but it is not a serious problem. In dogs, however, bloat (also called gastric dilation) can be serious or even life-threatening. Bloat occurs when air and gases accumulate in the stomach, causing it to swell like a balloon. A little bit of gassiness will usually go away on its own.
8818986 tn?1406114699 m 29 weeks with baby #2 and all of a sudden I am getting these extremely sharp pains in my stomach. I know feeling my uterus stretch is normal and it could just be that but the keeps going on and off again. It's not a constant pain. It starts then last a couple seconds then stops and starts again. It also is making me feel sick to my stomach :( any idea what it might be or do you think it's normal.
Avatar n tn Our labrador retriever will occasionally have these symptoms (without any reason) She will begin doing the prayer position, stretching her stomach like she is in distress. She immediately wants to go outside, where she heads for grass to eat and then will occasionally vomit and defecate. The symptoms usually subside after 20-30 minutes. I thought bloat, but the vet has told me bloat is a fast fatal disease. Can you help me.
7746659 tn?1393919637 I would have to do some reading up on this issue in dogs. I am somewhat familiar with delayed motility in people so am assuming the "mechanics", so to speak are the same. Sounds like he has an irritated gut too. He needs to be on a bland food that is easily digested. Try cooking up some chicken (no skin) and rice and you could add some vegetable like shredded zucchini.
Avatar f tn This may just be a passing stomach upset, it may be a serious infection, or it may be pancreatitis, or something else.....it's impossible for me to tell you. Probably the best thing to do is to withhold food altogether for 24 hours NO FOOD AT ALL. Just water.
Avatar f tn I agree with the poster above! There is nothing like labor contractions!!! I can honestly deal with braxton hicks contractions because they aren't painful, just aggravating . . . My pain level & yours are different of course but I can handle Braxton Hicks anyday .
Avatar f tn My dog has a very sensitive stomach. I'm really not sure what I can do except take her over to eat grass. If I'm not home she'll eat whatever she can find... ex- wood posting on the house, leaves, her shedding hair - anything. She also has this strange thing she does when she is eatting her food - she touches the tip on the bowl with her nose and then touches it on the ground - over and over again until she feels she done it enough & then she'll eat.
Avatar n tn Is the cramping at the top of your stomach or the bottom? Contractions start at the top of your uterus and move down. Your stomach will also feel hard during contractions.
Avatar m tn How close are her contractions? When she has a contraction, can you see a sack in the vaginal area at all? Are you sure there are more puppies? Sometimes there can be some time in between puppies but if she has been pushing this long you best get her to the vet. The puppy may be too large, dead or turned and can't make it through the birth canal. Your female may also need a Pit shot.
Avatar f tn As long as you are not having any pain or bleeding contractions you most likely are fine. Baby is well protected in there. Kick back and relax for a bit, im sure all is well. But if you still feel unsure call your dr. They may want you to come in just to be safe.Good luck.
7169697 tn?1389437534 My pup is like my child as well and I have also been so worried how he is going to react to a baby being around since he is my baby. I am currently 28 weeks and have been preparing my pup since about week 20. I talked to my vet. Now I am a little on the extreme with my pup. He really is like my child. I have had him since the day he was born. He was the runt and the mom tried to eat him. So he was needle feed by me. So I have a bond with my dog.
Avatar f tn Im 30 weeks and 4 days. I went in to my hospital two weekends ago and was having early contractions and they had to stop the labor because I was too early. For these past two days or so I've had really bad pain in my vaginal area (almost feels like I'm opening up) and my stomach hurts and tightens up a lot. I can't tell if they're contractions or just the baby moving a lot? How do I know the difference? Ps: sorry, don't mean to gross anyone out...serious question though.
1486020 tn?1354028475 I'm feeling some pressure in the front of my stomach every once in a while lately. Seems to be after I've been standing or walking for a period of time. Is it just the baby pushing against the front of my uterus causing pressure or is it something I should be concerned about?
4981292 tn?1381256805 Its not my skin that achs, its deep in my stomach like I can't massage the pain because its deep in my stomach :/
Avatar f tn A few days ago my 7 yr old American Bulldog began having what looked like abdominal contractions, vomited twice and had not much of a runny stool. The next day, he was trying to urinate and a minimal amount, drops even, came out. He has stopped eating now, urine is still minimal, but now there is blood in it. He doesn't even drink as much water anymore. I'm afraid his stomach has twisted somehow or he has a blockage and that his kidneys are failing.
Avatar n tn Sometimes dogs will produce large amounts of acid if they go too long in between meals. While this is more common in bulldogs, it can happen in any breed. It sounds like this is what is happening with your lab. You can apply a quick fix to this by feeding him a biscuit or two very late at night. This should keep his hunger down and the acid in his stomach to a minimum until breakfast.
Avatar f tn d try walking and a bath, usually you can at least feel a tightening in your stomach if they are contractions but not always, so just keep timing and see what happens
Avatar n tn Sounds like contractions. Thats what mine felt like. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hi im 36 weeks and 5 days ive been to the toilet 3 times already and getting what feels like contractions but in my back they are really painful ive been having bad back ache for 2days.
Avatar n tn Do these vomiting episodes follow a pattern? Do they occur at any particular time of day or night, after eating (without your knowledge) certain food, etc. How often in the past six mths would you say he had these episodes and how long did they last? Does he drink more, less or the same amount of water when he has these episodes? If he hasn't lost any weight, that would seem to be a good thing. But if he was my shih tzu, I'd take him to the vet.
