Stomach ache under rib cage

Common Questions and Answers about Stomach ache under rib cage

stomach

Have had ct scan, ultrasound and blood tests and all okay. Feels like a golf ball is getting squeezed under my rib cage. No fever but loss of appetite. Such an uncomfortable feeling. Part of the ct scan results stated There is no significant para aortic lymphadenopathy. Multiple diverticula are noted in the sigmoid colon. There is no evidence of diverticulitis. Gas is noted in L4/L5 intervertebral disc in keeping with degeneration.
I have now started recently having come of some drugs - with this band under my rib cage and pain down the centre of my rib cage. On listening to some of the comments above, some seem to think it is related to the Gastrointestinal part of the body, which would fit in with my condition, so perhaps this is part of the bowel system. I am due to have a second opinion in the next two weeks so will have this checked out, will come back if I find any information relating to this.
I had the same problem and it was my stomach flipping up under my rib cage...a chiropractor figured out and corrected the problem for me..
I've been having pain and fullness under the right side of my rib cage for the past 5 days. Pain also radiates to my back under shoulder blade. It feels like something is really swollen (like my liver) or as if a balloon is inflated underneath my ribs. Stools are normal, no nausea/vomiting. I went to the urgent care clinic today, and they sent me straight down to the ER.
While this may not be life threatening, it does require immediate attention. Pain under rib cages with stomach ache is usually due to exacerbation of the GERD or gastric reflux. It could also be hiatal hernia. Treatment is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes.
It is in my lower right side and under my right rib cage. I am going back to the doctor and demanding the run a test to see if I have stones in my bile duct. If you have experienced anything like this or know anything about this matter , please email me at ***@****. Thanks!!
Now 65 Its only been a week now since I cam out of Hospital ,but it seems I get a real stomach pain right under my rib cage If I try to walk to far .It doesn't seem as though I am out of breath to much.It seems more like my stomach is blown up and it is a typical belly ache, any ideas please I am not happy at the moment as this has really took its tole on me.
I too have had pain up under my right rib cage. (I had my gall bladder removed 12 years ago, which by the way they said wasn't my problem. No test showed that my gallbladder was bad. But when they went in there after it, the surgeon told me it was one of the sickest gallbladders he had ever seen). Anyway, my current pain is caused by a bile duct stricture, confirmed by an ERCP two weeks ago.
The pain has continued to 'grow' if you will, jumping around to all different areas, which I did not see mentioned above. At times it's under my right rib cage but other times it's below my stomach on the left, beside my navel on the right and in my back on both sides. At times it hurts to take deep breaths. I went to the doctor and my abdomin was sore in several places but mostly beside my navel on the right during the first exam. He ordered a sonogram of my gallbladder and liver, normal.
i am recently recovering from mono, and i thought i was back to my normal self but yesterday at school i got a wicked bad stomach ache which turned into a head ache, and then the pain right under/on my lower right rib cage started. i felt like i had a bruise or something there but amazingly there was nothing. the pain changes when im in certain positions but its either the bruisy feeling or i described it as being stabbed. today after school i was a little worried so i went to my doctor.
If you eat something that causes excess gas (like cauliflower) or something that is fatty, or somethimes it really doesn't matter what you eat, you can get some pretty severe pain. It felt like extreme heartburn to me and I would get pains in my right rib cage area, or right underneath it. I couldn't breathe and thought I was having a heart attack. I ended up having mine removed becuase I had stones (but I also wasn't pregnant).
Now since that night I have had off and on dull and a small ache below my right rib cage and down into my stomach. It does not hurt like before but just bothers me. Any guesses on what this could be? Liver? Gall Bladder? Am I just a worry wart?
You didn't say if the discomfort is in the front or back of the chest. The organs located under the rib cage on the right side is the kidney, liver, and gallbladder. On the left is the kidney and the spleen. Across the chest on the same lines is the transverse large intestine. It is difficult to say which one is giving you problems. Get your doctor to order an abdominal xray. This will check the size and location of the organs and intestines.
I don't think it is anything serious but I would be intrigued to know why I get cramp under my rib cage (which looks like it is the lungs). It is very much like the stitch but in the wrong spot and I never get it after running or doing excercise.. like this morning for instance, all I was doing was walking around. I went to get my breakfast and there it was, the stitch that's in the wrong place.
Hi, for two days now I have a pain under my left rib cage (almost middle). Not sharp pain but pain that is there and would not go away. I use to have that same pain only when I have my period now it seem to be more regular. I also have pain in my left breast and under my arm (kind of bottom of where breast tissues are). I have seem doctors about breat examination but was told that is a tissue problem. I am 40 years of age. Do you think there is a problem where I shoud visit a doctor?
the next step would be to evaluate for a motility problem such as gastroparesis. This diagnosis would leave you feeling pain under your rib cage right side (b/c this is where your stomach is located), a feeling of fullness after eating (even a small meal), nausea, etc. A solid phase gastric emptying study could rule this out. Good luck.
It's about 2 or 3 inches below my rib cage, on the right side. If you draw a clock face with my belly button facing forward to 12 o'clock, the pain would be about 2 o'clock position, but sometimes it could move a little more central or else more around to the right side 3 o'clock position. It's a discomfort/dull ache which is made worse by sitting down/leaning forward.
The pain now seems to be concentrated on the right rib edge in between the left and right rib cage...but pain is mainly on edge of right rib (could be under...who knows), as well as in the stomach area. My doctor seems to think it's inflammation of the lower ribs/cartilage...not sure how that happened if that's what it is?? So I've been told to wait a week and if the pain persists go back. She's also prescribed anti-reflux medication which I've only been taking for 1 day.
I have the same upper abdominal ache under left rib but I also feel the pain on upper left abdomen also. I have had every test available except ERCP and everything keeps coming back normal. My doc now is calling it IBS which I do not agree with since I do not have Diarrhea (besides 1 or 2 soft bm every morning) and I do not have constipation. If you every get a diagnosis please post it so that it can help others.
I also burp, sometimes they are real deep ones and loud, also my ribs ache like i want to take my bra off but the ache is still there right under my ribs. I have been to the doctors before as i had really really bad pains in lower abdomen, along with pain before opening my bowels and was told, WAIT FOR IT, yes IBS. The doctor gave me an internal and checked the size of my ovaries and for any swellings and she said it was normal.
He has this chest tightness, shortness of breath, and a discomforting churning growling stabbing (you name it) under his left rib cage traveling to the back upper shoulder blade area. It feels like cold airy acidy gas. He was never able to take a full deep breath eversinced. Every time it seems like air is leeking somewhere else.
Sometimes it feels like it is pushing through my back and my back is really tender right there and other times, I can feel it shooting across to my right side of my abdomen right under my rib cage. When this happens I get really nauseous and weak feeling. Lately, my muscles ache and I get a headache also. My bowel also seems to be a problem lately. Even if I have already gone, I always feel bloaded and my stomache feels tight like I need to.
Had a physical therapist feel under the entire right rib cage for any obvious lumps or swelling, but nothing was alarming. I can press quite far under my ribcage without pain. No sensation of bloating. I have researched possible reasons, know that testing is probably the only real answer, but I have no health insurance. Is there one area of concern more likely than another?
I basically have all the same symptoms as everyone here. Dull pain under my right rib cage, but in a way it feels like it is on top of my rib cage sometimes. I also have a dull pain in my lower right abdomen sometimes too. But i was diagnosed with ovarian cysts a long time ago. Anyways, yesterday I went to the Dr. and she ordered blood tests for my liver and anemia, (because I also have some tingling on my left cheek.) and an ultrasound for next week.
I'm 52, female, active, exercise 5-6 days a week- run, yoga, pilates, walking. About 3 years ago, I had sharp stabbing pains in my right rib cage, lasted about a week, felt like I had the flu. I rode it out- it went away. (Thought- gallbladder might be starting to act up.) In 2011- December, again- I felt flu like, dizzy, body aches, severe exhaustion and had a burning pain in my right ribs that would go into excruciating spasms- sent me to my knees a few times.
SINCE FEBUARY I HAVE HAD PAIN BEHIND LOWER RIGHT RIB CAGE. WENT THROUGH THE BLOOD TESTING, ULTRA SOUND,C SCAN.......REVEALED NOTHING. LAST TEST WAS A HIDASCAN (SPELLING??) WICH REVEALED THAT MY GALLBLADDER WAS OPERATING AT ONLY 20%. LAST WEEK I HAD IT REMOVED. TODAY IS MAY FIRST AND WE ARE STILL TRYING TO RECOVER. DON'T KNOW WHAT THE OUT COME WILL BE. eMAIL ME IF YOU LIKE.
This is my fourth - third major - attack of "stomach" pains since the first attack back in mid March of this year. The pains, this time around, started several weeks ago as this sense of mildly painful 'pressure' in the lower left quadrant under my breastbone and towards the left side of the ribcage.
I have a band that runs across the top of my stomach and directly under my rib cage. It feels for lack of better terms, sucked in, it is not really pain but still very dibilitating. It is at its worst when I sit or lay down. I also have this on my right side while I am lying down on my left side. It is in the area that sinks in like on an hourglass. It feels as if it is being pulled inward. The area at the top of my stomach almost feels trapped or frozen.
