Avatar f tn I woke up about 4 weeks ago with a stiff neck. I assumed maybe I slept wrong and thought it would go away. After about 2 weeks I told my doctor and he said the same thing and gave me muscle relaxers and said to use bengay and hot showers. I've been doing all of that and the pain hasn't even eased up! It is like at the bottom of my skull and it hurts to turn my head either direction and sometimes when moving my head it will cause it to jerk on its own .
Avatar n tn I would think your neck nodes were swollen. Since you are sick, you may be lying in bed with more pillows and bending your neck wrong. It's just not unusual to have neck pain when you are sick, although a very stiff neck can be a sign of meningitis, so be sure you keep that in mind.

666921 tn?1254990618 all I had was phone call abour MRI results. Yes I do get problems other than neck pain but do not know what pressure on nerves can cause other than pain!! Am I right in thinking that LYME can cause the arthritis? What causes the extremely stiff neck that some Lyme patients experience at on set. I presume it is muscle tension-I guess unrelenting tension in neck/shoulder area can start to impact on the skeleton by pulling etc; I haven't ruled out Lyme.

1458799 tn?1328757528 You get neck pain, it makes you anxious, which causes dizziness. You get dizzy, which causes more anxiety, muscle tension...with a result of more neck pain. See? It's just a theory, but that's my guess. Kalie made some great suggestions. While I'm not always a huge fan of chiropractic medicine, they have come a long way and help a lot of people. Massage therapy would also be an EXCELLENT thing to try. Heating pads on the affected area will help also.
516780 tn?1296516575 If I sit or lay down for 30-60 minutes I have muscle problems in my lower back and neck. Do you have the same issues with your muscles?
Avatar f tn I came home with no pain but I had been watching a movie because I was tired from being outside all day and my neck must of gotten stiff. I still can't move the left side of my neck over without being in severe pain, if I am laying down I cannot get back up without using one of my hands to cup the left side of my neck so I can stand up. My mom thinks that i just pulled a muscle and i am not allowed to complain about it, but iam starting to stay in pain. should I seek any medical help?

Avatar n tn The crackling noises are still there plus a sharp neck pain if I bend my head a particular way. I run an average of 50 miles per week but don't to any weight work. Lately I'm afraid to pick up a barbell, thinking I won't be able to grip it.
Avatar m tn Hi, exposure to cold weather can cause stiffness of the neck or any muscle for that matter. But if the stiff neck is associated with runny nose and cough, its most likely that the symptoms are due a throat infection. The pain can also be due to lymph node enlargement. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Headaches and pain can be associated with magnesium deficiency. It may reduce your pain and help you be able to exercise and get things loosened up. Try magnesium 500 mg every morning and calcium about 400 mg and vitamin D 2000 IU every night. This keeps me pain-free.
Avatar f tn My neck has given me trouble since the accident and symptoms would flare up in the form of a very stiff neck. At times my neck was so sore and stiff that I could not lift my head off of my pillow. The stiffness would last a few days and everything would fine again… for a while. Six months ago I had a severe flare up and my index finger and thumb on my left hand went completely numb.

1458799 tn?1328757528 i spent hundreds of dollars on various tests and medications to find out that my stiff neck, "pinched" nerves, migraines, and shoulder/back pain were due to severe anxiety. when i lost my job, many of my maladies diminished or disappeared completely. if you are not currently seeing a therapist, you may want to consider it to find the specific cause of your anxiety. maybe it will be something you can change and finally get relief from your pain.
Avatar n tn I also woke up one morning with a stiff neck out of nowhere. Essentially, my head was immobile. I went to my long time chiro and got little relief, but kept going and used ice on it for 10 minutes on 10 minutes off. Though this seemed very counter intuitive to me, it really helped. I did not go to an MD, but did wonder about meningitis given the abrupt onset and severity. However, there were no other symptoms except fatigue which I felt was secondary to the pain and stress of the neck.
Avatar m tn Can anxiety cause my neck Spasms I get stiff on and off nomajor pain but can anxiety cause all this
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, Appreciate your help with these two questions - 1. I'm suffering from stiff neck muscles and muscle cramps in my shoulder blades & hamstrings. Been like that for a year now, from when I wake up to when I go to sleep. I have no conditions except Hypothroidism. Is that a possible hypothroidism symptom? I've seen these in many symptoms lists, but I would appreciate hearing of any experience you might had/seen of these. 2.

Avatar m tn , a lot of good info will pop up on how to order one so that you can start this therapy. Myofascial pain syndrome is caused by tight bands of muscle tissue that send radiating pain throughout the back and into the neck or shoulders. A muscle relaxant may also be helpful in relieving some of the tightness and pain that you are experiencing. As far as things feeling out of place, a CAT scan or MRI will provide imaging of your shoulder that will indicate if what you think is true.
Avatar n tn Do you have any neck problem history? If so,see orthopaedic doctor to get diagnosis, then alternative medicine can help.Don't worry!
