1000946 tn?1253807847 I am so tired of reading that copd is a "death sentence". I was just reading the Respiratory board and thats all I see on there, why is this? Am I not scared enough? I know there is no cure like someone who has MS, but can't we live a normal long life? Im only 41 and my youngest is 9 months and with reading all of this Im now beginning to panic. My own nurse just told me over the phone like this illness was no big deal.........
Avatar m tn It means a person's heart stopped, and doesn't say much of anything. If a physician is treating a person with a terminal illness this is a common statement, however without an autopsy it is impossible to provide even an educated guess. The heart may stop for a number of reasons, and go into ventricular fibrillation (quivering like jelly and not pumping), due to cumulative damage, toxins, the ph of the blood, or a number of other reasons. When the heart stops breathing eventually stops.
Avatar n tn Are you in the late stages of terminal cancer? Probably not, so no, you are conclusive move on!
4943237 tn?1428991095 s different behavior start right before the onset of your illness? For instance, dogs can be trained to sense a seizure episode and alert their humans a seizure is coming on. I think our pets are able to discern much more than humans can. Call me crazy about this suggestion but stranger things have happened. Just a thought...
Avatar f tn I now co-lead our hepatitis C support group at my transplant center and have been a core member of our liver transplant support group for the past 4 ½ years as well as a member of a cancer support group for those of us who have been diagnosed terminal. I also try to provide support and encouragement to hospitalized patients pre and post transplant at our liver transplant center and work with our transplant doctors, nurses and social workers involved with transplant.
1253246 tn?1332073310 We all know that a person can die from the damage hep c causes to our bodies. I am not sure how it is classified semantically, but does it really matter? Generally It takes a very long time to get that sick if ever (20-40 years). Sadly there are people dying of hep c as we speak and people on this board that have advanced disease, for them time is of the essence.
Avatar n tn And all the tests could have stressed her, and cost you a heck of a lot of money, maybe for you to discover she DID have the late stages of a terminal illness. It is possible -for example -that she had cancer of the Spleen or liver. I am so sorry. It's a dreadful loss. Hold on to the good memories you had of her, I am sure there are hundreds.
Avatar n tn Could you pls let me know what the symptoms of last stages of a person with ovarian cancer?
Avatar m tn In your mind you know the truth ie that there is no way you could have thought you had all those rare things and then finally cottoned onto the true illness ALS. I have been through similar periods of symptom/illness hopping that were kind of a precursor to a depressive period. I think they are part of the same thing ie anxiety/depression. If you find you are unable to cope with your job/studies/or your relationships are suffering then please see your doctor.
Avatar f tn states -- Oregon, Washington and Montana. And in those states, patients who seek to end their lives are typically in the last stages of a terminal disease. "We donate organs in patients that, say, are brain dead or have terminal events," she said. Most doctors "would have a problem" with what Phebus wants to do, because "at this point, he's fairly healthy.

Avatar f tn , the doctors said that without doubt, this is a terminal disease with survival marked at 3-6 months). But I have been reading of survivors - some living beyond the magic five year milestone! What is the exact prognosis of this? He currently does not have any mets to the liver or lungs or any other part of his body, and his CEA is now point.4 (*very low, but doesn't mean to say that the mets haven't happened -- they're just not currently active).

438514 tn?1305734140 Palliative care is NOT the same as hospice care. Palliative care may be provided at any time during a person`s illness, even from the time of diagnosis. And, it may be given at the same time as curative treatment. Hospice care always provides palliative care. However, it is focused on terminally ill patients-people who no longer seek treatments to cure them and who are expected to live for about six months or less.
377493 tn?1356502149 I am speaking only in terms of those with a terminal illness nearing its end that is sure to result in great pain and suffering. In those instances, I can see why some one would choose assisted suicide. I don't think I would but don't judge those who do. Euthanizing children due to a disability is entirely a different matter.
4784361 tn?1401231107 My dogs name was Reese. He was about 15 years old, a golden retriever german shepherd mutt, maybe. We aren't really sure. Last night, around 1 am, he starting crying, and he couldn't get up. This was sort of normal, because he has a bit of arthritis and it's been very cold here recently. But he was having more and more trouble than normal. He defecated in the living room, which has never happened in the last 14 years he's been with us. He was very well house trained.
1000946 tn?1253807847 How many have you read that COPD is a Terminal illness? Does anyone really believe this? I know we have to take care of ourselves and stop smoking, if we don't it will progress quickly and we will go quickly to the end stage. But if we do what we need to do can we have a long life span?
Avatar f tn I wish I could say the illness never showed up, but it did.. after about 20 years of expecting it. And even then she did defeat it. Might you be able to say any more about those bad things happening that keep happening?
Avatar m tn said disease had come back and probably had 2 years (outside) to live. How can it go from disease free to terminal in just a couple of months?? This discussion is related to Colon Cancer - Please Help!.
Avatar n tn No medicine and no health condition changes the reliabltility of HIV testing (with the possible exception of potent chemotherapy and terminal illnesses); certainly your tuberculosis skin test makes no difference. So congratulations! You can go forward with 100% knowledge you didn't catch HIV during the encounter 12 weeks ago. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I'm living it right now and to be honest, I am aware of 5 to 7 steps or stages of the grief process, but they don't matter, because you survive one day at a time ....baby steps, and not time frame, since everyone heals at their own pace. It's been 2 years for me and I do feel better, but I am not yet completely healed...it takes a long time.
