Avatar f tn My 90 yr old mother died last night in Hospice care. She was in a nursing home for 4 years, where I visited her daily. When we knew the end was near we called in Hospice. When it became evident that she was in the final stages and gasping for breath they administered morphine, orally, then a suppository, then orally again. It all happened so fast but when the last dose was given I was overwhelmed.

Change in a blood test that measures liver inflammation occurs more often in patients with hepatitis B. Avatar f tn Hi, I have seen and been with server that have passed from Alzheimer's, but like you it's something Elsa that takes them but the Alzheimer's is what's behind that causes them. My mom passed 9 months ago from Alzheimer's. she had strokes from it, which was because she could no longer get out of bed and it caused clots to go to her brain, she also had bad kidneys and the Alzheimer's was behind her uti infections as she stopped drinking lots water.
Avatar n tn The fact that he was sent to hospice, a place for people nearing death, and not a nursing home, where dementia patients are sent, indicates they weren't telling you the whole truth. Dementia patients can live for years. My mother, for instance, 20 years. Doctors tend to avoid discussions of death, and many, at best, allude to what is occurring: end of life.

He was in a Nursing home but we brought him home In the last few months I have watched his urine change color to amber then bloody looking to normal yellow. He coughs at times. We have suction Machine but nothing else other than oxygen to help him for He has a DNR order ( do not resuscitate.)He seems to cycle ( I call it that) going from his sats being 95-98 and Blood pressure from 138/83 to 98/63. His pulse 63-83. Res.16-8.

The RN called the police, and told them that he never visited and had no right to try to take my mother out of there. About that time, the widow of an ex-police chief, whom the officers knew (she was a patient there) came up the hall, called my husband by name and vouched for him. So adult protective services was called in.

Left the nursing home, went to my home to get a little sleep, then returned to the nursing home before work to try and feed her with a syringe and a solution I made of vitamins and gatoraide. I continued that regime for about a month and in NOV 2005, while observing the physiological changes in my queen, she passed away as I held her in my arms.

He died with me at his side and holding on to him. His last audible word was my name, said simply without pain, tears or fear. Avatar n tn My advice to you would be to move your dad to another nursing home that does not have a policy of chemical restraint. If that isn't feasible forbid the use of all antipsychotics; not just risperidol. When my husband, who has Parkinson's, was hospitalized for 3 months due to a ruptured gallbladder I spent every waking hour trying to keep his recuperation on track.

Avatar n tn The discharge order was to put my mother into a nursing home and continue her heart medication.Several months later her life was ended with morphine.When the doctors in the hospital found that haldol was used to make her comatose,her heart medications were withdrawn and refused to be continued dont they have an obligation to my mother?Does Hospice have any obligations to the withdrawal of medications?

First let me tell you how sorry I am that she has progressive MS. She is very fortunate to have you as her advocate - we all need someone at our side on the good and the bad days. I would strongly recommend that you find a pain management doctor to help with the pain.
