Without further treatment, the 3-year survival rates for patients with this condition ranges from about 20-30%. You might want to discuss with her doctors regarding insertion of feeding tubes, or having a tracheostomy ( a tube inserted at the trachea area), so that whatever happens, no matter how large the tumor becomes, she will still be able to breath and be fed properly. Patients with both the hepatitis C virus and HIV have an increased chance of liver failure during PEGASYS treatment. If you have a rise in this blood test you may need to be watched more closely with additional blood tests.

My own nurse just told me over the phone like this illness was no big deal.........
Avatar f tn Given that portal hypertension is one of the main factors responsible for the complications of cirrhosis, the importance of measurements of hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) (an estimation of portal hypertension) at the time of diagnosis of cirrhosis in predicting mortality in cirrhosis is important and has not been sufficiently analysed, particularly in the setting of other recognized predictors of death in cirrhosis (1).
Avatar f tn The clinical course of pulmonary MAC infection in patients without HIV infection is usually indolent. In one study, approximately 50% of patients in one study were alive 5 years after diagnosis. Untreated patients with significant lung disease may develop respiratory insufficiency or weight loss. Avatar m tn It means a person's heart stopped, and doesn't say much of anything. If a physician is treating a person with a terminal illness this is a common statement, however without an autopsy it is impossible to provide even an educated guess. The heart may stop for a number of reasons, and go into ventricular fibrillation (quivering like jelly and not pumping), due to cumulative damage, toxins, the ph of the blood, or a number of other reasons. When the heart stops breathing eventually stops.

Clinical Features of Fibrosis and Cirrhosis Fibrosis per se is asymptomatic and its major clinical importance is the potential for progression to cirrhosis.

ALD is a potentially devastating disease.
