Avatar f tn s exocrine or endocrine but what I would like to know is what is the survival rate for individuals with this type of cancer. However age, race, gender all of that play a part. My friend was diagnosed in August 2010 and I'm not sure on whether he is taking treatments as of yet he is an elderly man and he continues to do the things that he was doing before he was diagnosed with this disease.
Avatar m tn CA19-9 is elevated in about 20 to 40 percent of colon cancer. It helps to differentiate benign from malignant pancreatic disease in some cases. This is merely an advice and not substitute for clinical examination. It is suggested to discuss your queries with your treating doctor since he knows your medical history best. I sincerely hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar m tn A PET scan was ordered and they told him he had Thyroid, Liver and Pancreatic Cancer and told us to call hospice-- basically a death sentence. We insisted on a biopsy. Thyroid and Liver tested negative but they were still insisting that he had pancreatic cancer because his CA-19 was 292! Oh, they never wanted to do a biopsy on his pancreas. So, he started his radiation in Dec, chemo orally, then in Feb. started his iv chemo.
Avatar n tn 3 days ago my father informed me that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I already know the pronosis is bleak. He has decided to do the ****** therapy as well. ****** believed the complication with my mother was she already had too much cemo in her for ****** to be effective. So i guess I have two main questions. What is your opinion of ****** therapy, and should I personally be concerned with both my parents having, or had cancer? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn I have been in the hospital for 8 days and have been told that I have pancreatic cancer. It is in the early stages. My records have been sent to the pancreatic center in Cincinati to find the best treatment available. I have had an addiction to oxycontin and went to detox and rehab. I am 11months and 5 days clean and sober and am enjoying life being sober!!!! I was given dilaudid in the hospital and I have been sent home on the Duragesic Patch.
Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/cancer/pancreatic-cancer/causes-pancreatic-cancer Symptoms of pancreatic cancer are found at this link. https://www.webmd.com/cancer/pancreatic-cancer/pancreatic-cancer-symptoms#1 When they speak of light stools they are speaking in terms of jaundice which usually has other symptoms such as yellow skin or eyes. Do you have that as well? If not, I'd not necessarily associate light stools with pancreatic cancer. GERD is likely to cause yellow stools.
Avatar m tn According to a study done, among 104,856 women and 48,928 men without cancer at baseline, they documented 349 cases of pancreatic cancer during up to 16 years of follow-up. Participants were classified according to a history of gallstones or cholecystectomy. However, adjustment for other pancreatic cancer risk factors attenuated the association. So, Gallstones or cholecystectomy do not appear to be significant risk factors for pancreatic cancer. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn It's best to get her doctor to answer the question of if she can fly- given her age and the fact that cancer can cause different complications for different people in different stages, I'd see if you can't get an idea from the doctor what precautions need to be taken.
Avatar f tn My doctor seems to think it was just old age that caused my grandmother to develop it. I am not sure if her death is directly attributable to the pancreatic cancer or if it was simply old age and the stress of undergoing surgery at such an age. My question is should I undergo genetic testing for the BRCA genes based on the medical history of these three relatives? I have read that many women with these gene mutations are of Jewish descent, but I am not, so I'm not sure what to think.
Avatar m tn Does LDH levels being normal rule it out? I am frightened of this. No pancreatic cancer in family, but both parents and both sets of grandparents died of various cancers. The dang internet is bad for people like me with undiagnosed stuff. My stress levels have been very high lately due to this. Could my symptoms be kidney related? I have noticed a foamy urine lately. I have a urology appt. on Wed. I am trying my hardest to get to the bottom of this.
Avatar n tn If your father has, in addition to the pancreatic mass, symptoms suggestive of cancer such as abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), weight loss, and lack of appetite, then a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer may be considered in spite of a normal CA 19-9. Surgical excision of the pancreatic mass may be warranted in this case.
Avatar m tn i think it is best to test nagalase and keep it low, the high nagalase that all members of medhelp found is probably one of the main sources of all this increased cancer risk
Avatar f tn I am very sad. Just got a call from my dad saying he has pancreatic and liver cancer. From what I recall its an aggressive cancer right? He hasn't been dx with hep c. I don't have very much info at the moment. Waiting for them to call me after appointment.
Avatar f tn But if you do, it is treatable in its early stages and can be cured with a liver transplant. It is not a death sentence for most patients as long as they have proper medical care at a liver transplant center. Hang in there! Hector I have hep C genotype 1 and advanced cirrhosis. I have had HCC (liver cancer) for 26 months now and had 6 cancer treatments and will have a 7th this month. I have a MELD score of 36.
Avatar n tn When the liver starts to back up with toxins does it cause enlarged spleen, pancreatic bile duct enlargement, duodenum widened? Which it eventually backs up to the esophagus causing vessels to burst. I've been told I have enlarged spleen , all the stuff I listed above. They try to check each organ but never issue the liver and hep c which I think are creating the problem. I now have fatty tissue on the pancreas from 5 years ago and has gotten larger at last ct scan.
Avatar m tn The father(52 yrs old) of my best childhood friend has recently been diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer on 15 of June. This had been a shock to his family and us because he seems very healthy and his company offers yearly body scan to employees. Blood test has been done every year and only the latest blood test in June showed abnormal CA199 level. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after two weeks.
Avatar f tn It is his life. There is no history of cancer in his family, his father passed away from a heart problem, but was born with a defected heart and his mom lived until 98. We are grasping for awnsers anywhere we can. We did receive a phone call from a friend that suggested pancreatic cancer. Please, if you have any suggestions in what sort of direction to go in I would appreciate it.
Avatar m tn My heart goes out to anyone suffering from cancer of any from and especially liver cancer as I have liver cancer (HCC) myself and know others with a similar diagnoses. I wish Robin love and peace during this trying time for himself and his loved ones whatever the cause of his illness. As far as how Robin finds peace I think that is for him to decide, no one else. Whether witch doctor, priest, or guru. If it helps him, great.

Avatar m tn H Pylori thrives in low stomach acid and lowers stomach acid further. Low levels of stomach acid (stomach acid stimulates the pancreas to release enzymes to help with digestion just to add) can also cause malabsorption and floating stools. There are many possible symptoms from not enough stomach acid. My mother takes betaine HCL with pepsin supplements to increase stomach acid and digestive enzyme supplements to help with digestion. I'll send you a few article with more info.
