Stages of death from kidney failure

Common Questions and Answers about Stages of death from kidney failure

death

Avatar m tn ve read described the quick downward spiral of dogs that have been diagnosed with kidney failure. Are we just lucky that it was caught in the early stages of the disease? I know that the outcome will be the same whether it takes days, months or more, but is this typical for an early diagnosis? I don't know what stage of failure she's in, but when the time comes, I'm hoping I have the courage to allow her to leave us with dignity.
Avatar f tn Our dog has been diagonized last week with kidney failure. the doctor said he is in his last stages. But this has happened all of a sudden. he was totally fine until last week. We had his blood report and all the levels are high .. far more high than normal. Now he is not eating, vomiting mostly, drinks lots of water, stool is in black colour and today while he vomitted there was blood flow through his anus. What to do now? is he really in his last stages... ? should i euthanize him???
Avatar f tn Cr exceeds 20, this is predictive of prerenal injury (kidney disease caused by change in the blood supply to the kidney). Kidney disease or blockage of the flow of urine from your kidney causes both BUN and creatinine levels to rise. The stages of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) are mainly based on measured or estimated GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate). There are five stages but kidney function is normal in Stage 1, and minimally reduced in Stage 2.
Avatar n tn 7 Any of these things can lead to the cause of death. Patients with IPF can die from heart failure, respiratory failure, or collapsed lungs.
Avatar n tn Seizure activity and signs of neurological problems are common in dogs that are in the end stages of kidney failure due to the buildup of toxins in the body, so it's entirely possible that what you observed was the result of the kidney failure.
Avatar f tn I have read many articles on the internet that will state that to die of Kidney Failure is a painless death. Some of these articles have gone so far as to call it a gentle death. I am not so sure that I would totally agree with these statements. In my opinion, when a dog is in stage 4 (the final stage) of this disease, the toxins in it's body are making it very sick.
Avatar f tn I don't have experience with kidney failure, but I had a look in the archives here (I put "dog kidney failure diet" into the search box, and a few older posts came up. I have not had time to read them all, but this one might be helpful: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Dogs/excessive-thirst-and-peeing-in-house/show/736354 You could check out those old posts, see if you can find anything there to help.
Avatar f tn If Fluids bring the blood numbers down (even moderately), then management can begin. Much depends on the stage of kidney failure. Has your vet done a blood pressure check? Has he included an SDMA test in the blood tests? Has he checked for protein in the urine and for any urinary infections? Ask your vet for copies of all blood test results, so you can post them here. Depending on the values, the type of food given will differ.

If you have a dog or cat in kidney failure, your vet might try Azodyl. The responding vet on the forum gave a great explanation about Azodyl and other kidney support products, so give it a read if this topic applies to your pet - or even if it doesn't.
Avatar m tn Older dogs that get kidney failure is another problem, because kidney failure is one of the biggest causes of death in older dogs and there is no cure - other than dialysis/transplant surgery, which can of course then be the cause of other side-effect problems. Hope some of this helps. Others on the forum may be able to offer additional information/advice.
Avatar f tn Stage 1 is considered a small amount of fibrosis. Stages 2 and 3 is considered a greater amount of fibrosis or scarring meaning the disease has progressed. The more fibrosis the harder it is on the liver to carry out it's functions. As the damage progresses further, many scars can form together, which can lead to stage 4, or cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn I found my uncle on the floor of his house lying by his chair after I came from school. He had type 2 diabetes , kidney failure, high blood pressure, and congestive heart failure. He was on the floor lying on his stomach with both hands grabbing his chest and there was quite abit of blood on the floor where I found him. His face was very swollen and lip twisted. I want to know did he most likely die a painful death and was it a heart attack or something else.
Avatar f tn Sometimes an enlargement causes heart failure. In the advanced stages , failure has symptoms of varying degrees. Some people are incapacitated and find it hard to move around, but others can get by ok.
Avatar n tn You want plain Tums that are only calcium - nothing extra. Calcium helps the body to get rid of phosphorus which is deadly to animals and people in kidney failure. It won't harm him to go ahead and start the calcium before you get a diagnosis, just make sure your vet knows so he can take that into consideration with any test results. 512560 tn?1222560127 It most often results from any disease that causes gradual loss of kidney function. It can range from mild dysfunction to severe kidney failure . Progression may continue to end-stage renal disease.Chronic renal failure usually occurs over a number of years as the internal structures of the kidney are slowly damaged. In the early stages, there may be no symptoms.
Avatar f tn There are many test that needs to be ran to double check kidney disease. Some very muscular males have average serum creatinine in blood from 1 to 1.2 and that will be considered normal but would be at stage 2 or 3 kidney disease. Kidney secrete creatinine at a steady rate and when they are damaged creatinine is release slower and stay in the blood. This is why blood test can see a raise is serum creatinine in the blood.
2123020 tn?1335045458 There are 5 levels of Chronic Kidney Disease that doctors use to determine how advanced your kidney disease is. Level 1 and 2 are mild, 3 is medium, 4 is advanced, and 5 is end stage renal disease (needing a transplant).
Avatar m tn t be worried but because of the raisins he thinks this may be the beginning stages of kidney failure. He told me that we needed to schedule a follow up to determine if these tests were a fluke or indicative of something much worse. Side note: Throughout this whole appointment he kept trying to upsell me on current products/specials that they have for grooming/boarding and on his business card & lab coat it clearly states Dr. (name not used) DVM & MBA.
Avatar n tn I have stage 4 kidney failure. I'm confused about why I have it and if I am on the right meds. I have DM type 2 and I have cysts in my kidneys. Does this mean I have Polycystic kidney disease, or does it just mean I have benign cysts? I take Lisinopril 5 mg daily. My doctors say that the kidneys don't hurt, but I have constant pain. Is this unusual?
Avatar m tn and my miracle nephrologist said I was in final stages (4) of failure but that I was in such great physical shape that I should go the transplant way and START IMMEDIATELY. He put me on the National list but my wife tested perfect and now all my numbers are in line, I feel wonderful!! I have type 2 diabetes controled by diet. Best of luck. See if you qualify for the doner list.
Avatar m tn Early complications of cardiac insufficiency include renal vasoconstriction and the development of sodium and water retention, which are hallmarks of the very early stages of congestive heart failure. Heart failure is a physiologically delicate condition in which therapy is designed to block the sodium retention and simultaneously interrupt excessively activated neurohumoral mechanisms.
8016255 tn?1396293364 My mother died in middle of a big smile of either heart disease, stroke, kidney failure. My father died of what was told to us of lung cancer, but he had brain cancer, a heart attack, liver cancer, caused by prostate cancer. I'd simply center on keeping the family in comfort unless you think a crime was committed.
