Common Questions and Answers about Stages of death for dogs

death

Avatar f tn Hi, My 11 year old maltese was diagnosed with chronic renal failure in November '14. She is on Pepcid and blood pressure meds. A few days ago she was also diagnosed with Demodex and is on oral medicine to cure it. I am going into the vet's office on Friday for new blood work / check up. I am have read about other dogs' symptoms and I am wondering if there is any sort of progression with the symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am so very sorry about your little dog's passing. I obviously can't tell you what the cause of his death was. Only a necropsy (autopsy) could determine that. I am making an educated guess however, as when you said he had belly contractions, this reminded me of my own dear dog who passed from hemangiosarcoma. She had a massive internal bleed in her last few hours, and kept contracting her belly muscles. I know this was an instinct to try to get something out of her insides.
Avatar n tn And all the tests could have stressed her, and cost you a heck of a lot of money, maybe for you to discover she DID have the late stages of a terminal illness. It is possible -for example -that she had cancer of the Spleen or liver. I am so sorry. It's a dreadful loss. Hold on to the good memories you had of her, I am sure there are hundreds.
Avatar f tn Can someone please tell me did the pork and the bone kill my baby, did he know he was dying and did he know how much we loved him before he passed on. Do dogs know they are loved? Do they they know they are dying and think of the people that cared for them and know we loved them???? I dont know how to put closure to my ordeal, All I know is that all I do is cry & suffer everyday and miss my baby every day. Can someone please give me answers???????
6246858 tn?1382269276 They were both just 10 years old. Spike was in the final stages of renal failure. I gave him sub Q fluids for over a year. I did everything to keep him alive. Sugar, who was healthy, was so upset over her brother's illness. She understood and never left his side. One day Sugar barked at the mailman and began to scream in terrible pain! I ran to her, she was upside down and crying. She looked like she was having a heart attack. She never showed signs of heart trouble.
Avatar f tn There are many reports of dogs surviving for several more months, to several more years. All dogs are different, and of course there are many variables involved. I have read many articles on the internet that will state that to die of Kidney Failure is a painless death. Some of these articles have gone so far as to call it a gentle death. I am not so sure that I would totally agree with these statements.
Avatar f tn He could have had neurological issues you were not aware of. And sometimes dogs will lick and scratch at spots where they feel some pain. A sharp sudden pain will often get a dog licking at the spot. But you weren't to know that. The problem is, dogs don't always show their troubles as clearly as humans do. They soldier on, and can sometimes die suddenly though having apparently shown few symptoms. Try not to beat yourself up about this. You are devastated I know.
Avatar f tn I know that you are like most of the rest of us in this dog community. We love our dogs, they are part of our family. When they die, it is a huge loss. True love is a bond with something, it has no boundaries, it is not something that is exclusive to humans. I feel bad for both the animals, and the people in this world who never experience that. I wish I had some good advice to help you overcome your grief, but the truth is...you just need to allow yourself to grieve...know it's ok....
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear this. Its such a nightmare when our dogs are in the last stages of life. I don't know what to tell you other than I feel for you and I know how you feel. At least you have had many years with her, but even with that its just so hard. I wish dogs lived longer than what they do. Its like the death of a family member and that is what is keeping me and my husband from getting another dog right now.
Avatar f tn Can someone please provide me with a safety list of fruits/veggies for dogs. I keep getting hearing mixed information; about broccoli and almonds and more.
14489072 tn?1434800770 I am so sorry to read of your loss. Agree with what tony said. Could have been a number of things. I lost a couple of dogs in years past very unexpectedly with no signs anything was wrong. An older dog to a heart attack and another to a ruptured tumor on her liver. My heart goes out to you also.
Avatar f tn If depression levels are dangerous to the point of loss of health, persuade them to go to a doc for medication to balance them out a little. Other than that, just be there.
Avatar m tn s your responsibility to get it some help...Get the puppy to a Vet or Emergency Clinic, NOW! What are you waiting for, other than DEATH?????
Avatar m tn My mixed Terrier all of a sudden lost weight had diarrhea for 1 day and was drinking a lot of water. She started acting normal eating more and gained weight. Jumped around did her little dance played outside continued to drink a lot of water. Then 1 day she started to squint her eyes and they looked like she had a cold in them. Took her to the Vet and was told she had allergies. The Vet gave her a shot for allergies and eye medicine. She started looking better that night next day OK.
Avatar f tn No sir. Please see a veterinarian. There are a variety of reasons dogs have constipation and that must be diagnosed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and proper treatment given. Human meds are almost never proper to give to pets. Doses are different, reactions are different and in some cases even an innocent med can cause death of a pet. Please consult a D.V.M.
Avatar m tn We live on a small farm but there are no hazardous products for her to eat (we have several other dogs). We are simply at a loss to explain this. I have read your prior comments but was wondering if you can shed any light on our situation. We want to make sure our other dogs remain healthy. We have another Golden who is 12 and almost blind from uveitic glaucoma (treating with dorzolamide, pred forte and combigan), but is otherwise healthy, considering her age).
Avatar f tn I am so sorry fir the sudden loss of your puppy! Just death and the lack of circulation could be the cause. However, it could have been lack of oxygen from choking or possibly heart problems. Yes, could be poisoning so do check your yard thoroughly. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell unless a necropsy is done.
Avatar m tn Is there anything in bone broth that is not good for him? Is this ok that I give him bone broth instead of water. His BUN is 70 and his creatinine is really high too, so I think it is advanced. Does anyone have any holistic advice that could help him? Essential oils? Other foods?
1916673 tn?1420233270 Dogs are often diagnosed with CKD at different stages of the disease. The earlier it is diagnosed the better chance there is of applying beneficial diet and management changes, but there are things you can do that will help even in later stages. My article "My 10-Point Plan for Dogs with Kidney Failure" is a concise and hopefully informative and useful supportive piece for all dog owners presented with this sometimes alarming diagnosis. Please have a read at: http://www.infobarrel.
Avatar n tn No vomit, no diarreaha, no blood. She just looked like she laid down in the sun and fell asleep and never woke up. If it was a poison of some sort, it would be unlikely because our other dog seems fine. We have already burried her, but I am taking our other dog to the vet in the morning to be sure he is ok. My husband thinks either cancer or maybe even a snake bite that we can't see because of her fur.
Avatar n tn I would have expected to see her show more symptoms leading up to the sudden death, but all dogs are a bit different. Parvo is an example of a viral GI infection that can cause bloody diarrhea and sudden death. Again so sorry this happend.
