Avatar m tn Hi Cajun, i've had arthoscoptic surgery on both shoulders for minor tears to cartilage which was found from an MRI. When and IF you have a surgery on the shoulder make sure you are Vigilant with physical therapy program soon after the surgery, SCAR TISSUE build up after having surgery without rehab can cause more pain and less range of motion than you had before a surgery. I've had better results going to a sports medicine doctors that specialize on the area injured.
82861 tn?1333453911 Are there any plans in the works for a physical therapy forum? As a veteran of numerous orthopedic surgeries and rehab, I would love to see some kind of expert or even patient-to-patient forum on rehab issues. Surgery is only one step in recovering from an orthopedic injury. The rest of the "cure" is up to the patient's willingness to endure the pain of rehab which is often overlooked by the surgeons themselves.

Avatar m tn Jerry, all kinds of practitioners call themselves "pain doctors" - chiropractors, rehab specialists, sports medicine specialists, surgeons, etc. Chiros want to "align" your spine, rehab and sports people give you exercises to build your muscle strength, and surgeons cut. They all have their place, but with chronic structural back problems, their pain solutions are limited.

Avatar m tn Oh gosh. Ouch. They should give you very clear post op instructions and after something like this, often there is follow up with the doctor as well as a physical therapist or sports medicine person. Avatar f tn After the surgery the pain did not really go away, I did rehab, I went to physical therapy but it just got worse and worse. After running a full track and basketball season I couldn't take the pain anymore and asked them to go in again, and they found a horizontal cleabage tear that had been there for nearly a year... So I'm now 18. 5 cortisone shots in, 2 knee surgeries down, and I've been diagnosed with mild/moderate osteoarthritis and only have 50% joint space left.

Avatar n tn Your mother can still undergo rehab therapy even after more than 1 year from surgery. The therapy usually consists of passive and active exercises to regain function. I do agree with the previous post that physical activity like sports can help a lot with the recovery. You can ask your mother’s doctor to refer you a physical therapist or an occupational therapist.
