Spiriva and sore throat

Common Questions and Answers about Spiriva and sore throat

spiriva

Yesterday I forgot to take my Spiriva and didn't feel have any severe breathing issues, so today I am intentionally missing... possibility that it is causing some of the Acid Reflux/Dry Sore Throat.
In the last 8 months have had continuing chest infections which have been treated with various antibiotics, my oral hygiene in very good i'm a non smoker, non drinker and take vast amounts of probiotic drinks live yogurts and also kefir drink daily. This has not relieved the continuing sore throats. Observation by my wife shows yellow ulcer like appearance of where the tonsils where ablout the size of 25cent piece.I had my tonsils out at 5 yrs of age.
I'm just constantly clearing my throat and by the end of the day, my throat is sore from doing it. I can't cough this stuff up. I wake up coughing in the night. If I had to guess, I'd say it's allergic in nature, but I can take every antihystamine in the cupboard, and nothing impacts it. I'm starting to think that it will be this way until I'm dead. I am completely at a loss for options.
It began in 1976 and re occurs every 5 to 6 years. I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out.
When using inhaled corticosteroids, some of the drug may deposit in your mouth and throat and cause laryngitis. This can cause coughing, hoarseness, dry mouth and sore throat. Gargling and rinsing the mouth after each puff on your corticosteroid inhaler, may help to prevent mouth and throat irritation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
I am no longer around these allergens and I rarely have asthma attacks but I still have a difficult time getting a deep breath (it has been over a year since I have quit taking Advair and Spiriva and I haven't been around any allergens) and Albuterol doesn't help at all in opening my lungs. I have been to many doctors and haven't had much help from any of them.
30 this morning, its in my chest congested, sore throat..not a head cold, just feel awful. Went to the doc and he gave me antibiotics called V-pac. Postponed my Saturday party at my house..25 people.
i was wondering if anyone out there is on this inhaler and if so have you had any side effects from it. the only side effect i know of is thrush and i thought i had it due to a severe sore throat i got after going 2 rounds of antibiotics and a round of prednisone for not only my asthma but chronic bronchitis that lasted 45 days. the dr put me on the thrush medication just in case i had it in my throat but didnt see it.
I would say you might possibly have those other things if you didnt smoke 60 a day for 35 years. Get a PFT and a HR CT. Then ask for Spiriva to see if this helps the cough and mucus production. All is not lost, give up now and you will see an improvment, it may take two years! Eros.
The color varies throughout the day but is generally yellow currently. My lungs feel sore and tight, like I'm quite ill, and I feel tired. I have to add albuterol in to keep my peak flows at a decent level, but even then they are down by 50-75 points. This same pattern (now that I realize that it might be a pattern) happened last fall when I turned the compost pile and added leaves I'd raked.
My other major symptom is coughing, which shows up if I'm anywhere lower than about 90% of my peak flow, and gets worse the lower I go - if I'm down to 70% or so, I'm coughing almost uncontrollably, and the coughing fits themselves are enough to give me a headache, sore throat, and a sore chest, and they just exhaust me.
My husband contracted this coughing right after a trip to Kentucky from Maryland at Thanksgiving 2008. At first he started with a fever and a slight sore throat. This later developed into a sever cough whitch went on for 2 weeks straight. No sleep and sever non-productive coughing. We went to a pulmonologist after two trips to the ER for some relief, of which he received none.
I noticed my orange tongue about a month ago after being sick with a sore throat and cough for about 3-4 weeks. No more sore throat but the orange tongue still remains. Same as everyone else, I can brush most of it off but it always returns. I live in the suburbs of Chicago. Pretty clean air.
I was treated of course with antibiotics, flonase and astelin etc. etc. along with asmanex and albuteral , spiriva and even wearing a scoplimine patch to try to dry up. I take lots of meds , in addition for lupus., & high BP, I'm on labetolol, carita, plaquenile, sulindac, hydroxizine, temazapam, fluxotine. I was just put on singular, Allerx DF dose pak, & Veramyst. ENT say's it's not sinus but I know it is I feel it coming down my throat.
I will call your heart Dr and have him prescribe Lasix aqnd then she hands me a Rx for Xopenex, Advair and Spiriva. I said why and she said you have COPD! What? COPD! How could I have COPD, I asked. She said do you smoke? No. Ever workat a refinery? Nope. Well what do you do? I was a fishing guide. I work in the fresh air-all my life. Then I don't know, she said, maybe it has something to do with the Interferon! Very bad drug, very bad!
I started to say something and a little saliva hit my throat and immediately my throat closed. I tried getting air from everywhere to no avail. I was gasping so hard I thought I would have a heart attack. My chest has been sore for 3 days since. My husband was with me and didn't know whether to hit my back, call 911 or what. I don't know wha to do when it happens cause I immediately panic and I have asthma and it starts my asthma.
I started out with a mild respiratory bug that had been going around ... sore throat, low grade fever, aches, sinus congestion, cough that produced clear mucus. All symptoms resolved after about 10 days except for a dry cough with some wheezing which has held on until the present time. I visisted my GP about 2-3 weeks after initial onset of illness and was given cough syrup.

Right now I take Norco and Soma 3 times a day vit D3, vit c, Diovan ( I have slight high blood pressure with a small anurysm in my brain) Spiriva for COPD and Ambien 10 mg to sleep. The pain meds just barely help my general muscle pain but, I really don't want to get on any higher narcotics. I have finally accepted the Fibro as I fought having it for 5 years and that took lots of my energy. Any responses would be greatly appreciated as we can learn so much from each other.
