193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
480331 tn?1310403529 t babble at all just sat and watched everything and everyone, until the age of 2 and half then her first word was gog, dog at 2 and half, she had not speech therapy as i believed my partner that she had brothers and sisters talking for her, she is now 6 and still quite lazy in her speech and she is also behind in her school work.
Avatar m tn We didn't start our daughter in speech therapy until 24 months, and she never spoke a single word until then. I had started teaching her sign language around 18 months, on my own. Sign language really helps alleviate the stress of little kids who can't tell you what they want. They can sign it. Some kids love sign language (my daughter did), and then others refuse to learn it. At 24 months her sign language vocabulary was somewhere around 20 words.
Avatar f tn As for his doctor... He is a psychitrist in Manhatten. Yes, he has been recieving speech therapy for 3 years within the public school system. No, they have made no suggestions as far as helping him at home. However, they say that he coperates on some days and not on others. As for his behaviour at school, that really depends on who the teacher talks to.
Avatar m tn By 3 years old he was quite echolaic, confused me, you, your etc rearely used the word no and never said yes in response to a question. For example were I to ask would you like some juice he answered "Juice please", he always repeated the last word or two of the question as his answer. That's when he first started with speech therapy and it was infact his speech therapist who refered him for autism screening.
Avatar m tn yes he has been ordered speech therapy and physiotherapy as well. But everybody around me saying that a speech therapy can't help it. It can come back just suddenly, there is no specific and really helpfull treatment for it. thats why i am asking here that what should i do.? i don't have any idea about it. But i will try my level best to recover his speaking power. so please help me if possible. thanks.
Avatar n tn I have a 25 month old girl who is significantly delayed in speech. She can say about 5 words but that is about it. She seems to understand some but not all of what we say. She will sometimes point to objects in a book if you ask her to, more likely she will point to something and want you to name it. She doesn't answer yes or no questions.
Avatar m tn He started preschool when he was three and has made tremendous progress answers yes and no questions, tells me what he wants etc. He just does not use alot of detail when talking. I am just confused or actually wondering if there is a bigger problem rather than just the speech delay like autism. He really does not display any characterisitics but the language delay. He loves to play with friends, loves to go to school, sleeps well, doesn't mind crowds or loud noises, he actually loves them.
Avatar n tn My brother had a stroke in June 07 at the age of 28. Couple of questions with some points of history: - Damage to L side of brain. - Much of R side affected including speech. - Positive note... he does comprehend, has decent hip control on R side which allows him to walk with brace/other aids, and has some R shoulder control. - He is working hard on OT, PT, and speech and has shown some recovery... very slow, but it is there.
Avatar m tn You would be suprised on what can happen with thyroid problems. I can't say for sure - but Yes slurred speech could be a sign of hypothyroidism. - Everyone component slows down within the body. I remember when I was extremely hypo - I felt at times words didn't come out of my mouth the way I wanted them to. I felt slow along with forgetful.
Avatar f tn t sure about it and did try to find some documentation on the subject, but found nothing other than the father asks more why, when, what, where questions as the mother asks questions that only require a yes or no most of the time. It is very frustrating for me because I have been teaching ESE students for 36 years and you would think that would mean that I know something about these things. But the bottom line is, she isn't my child so what can I do?
Avatar f tn My little boy had developmental delay. He started to walk and speak at about 20 month old. We've been taking him to a psychometric for 4 month now and recently started with a speech therapist, he's doing very well but he repeats every what i tell him if i ask how are you? he repeats the question instead of answering. He answers yes/no questions and some questions like what's this? where are you going?how many?
Avatar f tn s on a sliding fee schedule of payment and therefore can even be totally free based on income. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy will all happen if needed either by appointment or even in your home. yes, a speech therapist may travel to your home to help you. You'll be assigned a case manager to track progress of your child. I highly recommend you get involved in this. Once the child turns three, the public school system takes over.
Avatar n tn Yes he plays with them too and drives them round, even sits on them pretending to ride them. But we are so nervous that everything scares us! He pretends a lot now...
Avatar n tn You are further than ours. Ours don't even say yes or no!! Ours is generally very happy though, just with speech and understanding of a 1 year old.
325405 tn?1262290178 She is really starting to understand questions. I really give thanks to all the speech and developmental therapy she has had 3 times each week for an hour each session. She also knows how to share and turn take. She has problems saying words, and sometimes she has problems recalling a word. But she knows sign language and can respond with sign language if not verbally. My friend's son doesn't respond to questions. Many times not to his own name.
Avatar f tn repeating what others say is called Echolalia. it can be indicative of other problems. "Echolalia can be present in autism, Tourette syndrome, aphasia, Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, developmental disability, schizophrenia and, occasionally, other forms of psychopathology." I am NOT saying this is the case, but is a warning flag. you may want to do a search on it and see if it describes her. i suspect at least a language processing problem.
Avatar m tn He will come up to me and talk with jargon and laugh but I have no idea what he is saying except for a few words. He started answering yes and no questions and he answers his name and age. Knows his body parts and so on. He plays with other children and is not really scared of crowds or lights or other things of that nature.
Avatar m tn Problem: - Can't speak loud/ Can never scream - Vocal cord completely gets tired even on speaking normally for just 30 minutes - Have to speak slow in order to pronounce words correctly - Problem worsening because now when the vocal cord feels uneasy I can't pronounce words with difficult phonemes clearly - Due to this problem I'm having to loose my friends and I'm not being able to do my job properly as I'm a consultant who has to speak for at least 4 hrs a day History: -
Avatar n tn I'm sorry. I know these questions are posted a lot, but I figured it would be easier me asking then trying to find another child with her exact symptoms. My daughter just turned 2 on March 25th. I'm really worried about autism. She still doesn't talk. (She says a few things, but they aren't very clear) She flaps her arms, mainly when she's dancing, but occasionally does it when she's upset. She walks on her tip toes sometimes, not often.
Avatar n tn Hello I am worried about my nephew. He is 3 years 8 months Speech: His speech is delayed, doesn't talk much, doesn't have many sentences, a lot of speech is not clear. Speech therapy since 2. He never asks questions. He doesn't say "where are we going?" "what/who is this?" No "why" questions at all much less "how." If he is in the supermarket or stores, he doesn't ask for things.
