I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.

She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.

Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.

Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. Hey there. In your shoes I'd do more than a little tweaking. I'd rearrange the wording so it sounds more like me. That way I'd be less likely to forget what I was saying. I'd also make it shorter, 10 minutes or so. As prompts I'd use large index cards with just some short bullet points that represent the next idea I want to convey. Not detailed, maybe 10 or 12 all told. I'd make extra sure I emphasized the stuff they want to hear about their role iin the organization.

I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?

Fetal alcohol syndrome is a diagnosis. However she should also be seen by a speech and language therapist to assess her own speech abilities and her ability to follow language (as you say she appears to forget familiar words, doesn't respond to directions/questions etc). The speech therapist should also assess her working memory, auditory memory, social skills etc.

Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.

He doesn't have speech therapy. He's five years old. He speaks clearly, and has a huge vocabulary, normal for his age. I'm not 100% sure about all of it, but I know it has more to do with his brain and comprehension.

It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!

Is your son receiving speech therapy? I think that is the most important thing for him to improve his language. If he is already getting speech therapy, maybe he needs it more often.

Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.

My husband was diagnosed with Graved Disease and has had radio iodine therapy in March. He has since fallen severely hypothyroid and has slurred speech as well as fatigue, weight gain, and irritability. His MD has put him on Synthroid, but my question is will his speech go back to normal and if so, how long? Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.

Also ask at the feed store if there are any volunteer groups or knitting groups in the area. Farm communities tend to revolve around these three places. Good luck and yes your husband is being ugly about this.

The pleasant, younger than me, male principal made a good little speech and repeated several times that we should fill in our registration packets that come in the mail well in advance, and not wait and pile in on Registration Day and try to do it.

I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.

I also am a volunteer diver (cleaning tanks for sea creatures like otters, sea lions, etc.,) and I am a volunteer zoo guide (animal talker) at our city zoo. As a zoo guide we also take live animals to nursing homes and schools. Lately I've volunteered to help the Obama campaign locally.

Does anyone know of an agency that could use a 16 year old to volunteer in the field of thyroid issues. SInce my daughter has had such a stuggle with this, I think it would be good for her to become more involved.

yes he has been ordered speech therapy and physiotherapy as well. But everybody around me saying that a speech therapy can't help it. It can come back just suddenly, there is no specific and really helpfull treatment for it. thats why i am asking here that what should i do.? i don't have any idea about it. But i will try my level best to recover his speaking power. so please help me if possible. thanks.
