I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.

She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.

Ever since I was little I have always had a problem with studdering my speech. My speech was perfectly fine until I was about 7 when i started studdering. I’m not quite sure what happened but I just started studdering out of nowhere. I try to manage it but it’s very difficult. Lately my studdering has gotten a lot worse and about a few months ago I noticed i started slurping my speech more which has never happened to me before.

Get him evaluated by a child development doctor or psychologist and get him started in the various interventions for speech. He should start speech therapy ASAP (like Monday). Being an infant born to a drug addicted mother makes delays more common and you are smart to watch for these. Early intervention can solve lots of problems. Your child also sounds like he is doing pretty well.

Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.

He doesn't have speech therapy. He's five years old. He speaks clearly, and has a huge vocabulary, normal for his age. I'm not 100% sure about all of it, but I know it has more to do with his brain and comprehension.

It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!

My husband was diagnosed with Graved Disease and has had radio iodine therapy in March. Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.
