He certainly can read and seems to understand what he is reading. Due to insurance related issues, his therapy ended prematurely.. I would like to be able to communicate with him better. Can you suggests games, tools to help. I gave him a computer to see if he could type his messages but he could not. Are there other tools I can use? please help.
I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
My 4 year old granddaughter has obvious speech problems. It is very hard to understand her. Her speech patterns have also changed. She used to call her mother "Mama-ee" and now she calls her "Mahee". She cannot pronounce her own name, Meaghan. I want my daughter to get her a hearing test and she says she does not think she has a hearing problem.
The neuro doc said it was a large bleed in the left side of her brain, which has left her paralysed on her right side. Mom has no speech whatsoever but she does understand and recognise us. At the beginning my family and I were in bits we did not know what to do, the docs said she would not survive and said the next 24 hours was crucial, if she survives that then she may have hope of living.

Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management.

Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.
he had speech delay. he has been evaluated for a developmental delay. he is in first grade now. he is a very smart boy. However, he has a difficulty focusing on his work. Therefore, he always has incomplete work. He also have a difficulty following directions.
suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. My husband was diagnosed with Graved Disease and has had radio iodine therapy in March. He has since fallen severely hypothyroid and has slurred speech as well as fatigue, weight gain, and irritability. His MD has put him on Synthroid, but my question is will his speech go back to normal and if so, how long? It's very disturbing to hear because it sounds as if he has been drinking (he doesn't at all), and I'm worried how this may affect him long term.
Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.
I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Aggressive behavior and delayed speech patterns are common symptoms of autism. Also, consider enrolling your son in a speech therapy program. The sooner you get him started on speech therapy, the better will be the outcome.
