Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
667445 tn?1230750538 Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.
Avatar f tn i have read your other posts about hiv anxiety and i think you have ocd, ocd can change its themes in your case it has changed from hiv to your relationship, i think you should consult a psychiatrist
Avatar f tn Since younger kiddos cannot generally verbalize what they are experiencing, how they express difficulties comes out in different play themes. There are different theories as to how to approach the play therapy. Therapists can be non-directive or child-centered meaning they allow the child to take the lead and the therapist follows them and comments on their behavior, reflecting what emotions are coming out in the play.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
470885 tn?1326329037 I think some doctors are just stupid. Anyone who has ever been around children know, that they are NOT all the same, and what is "normal" for one child might not be the case for another. Children learn in their own time how to do things. I was worried about my DS because he was doing everything early up until 7 months.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.
676912 tn?1332812551 He doesn't have speech therapy. He's five years old. He speaks clearly, and has a huge vocabulary, normal for his age. I'm not 100% sure about all of it, but I know it has more to do with his brain and comprehension.
Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
Avatar f tn Is your son receiving speech therapy? I think that is the most important thing for him to improve his language. If he is already getting speech therapy, maybe he needs it more often.
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
500419 tn?1220124743 My son had a speech delay they recognized at 18 months after he had tubes put in his ears around the same time. I took him to speech therapy at "Columbus Speech and Hearing." They first did a hearing check to make sure everything was ok. Then autism was another good thing to look into. Their first plan of attach, though, was "early intervention" with speech therapy one day a week for a half hour at "Columbus Speech and Hearing.
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Graved Disease and has had radio iodine therapy in March. He has since fallen severely hypothyroid and has slurred speech as well as fatigue, weight gain, and irritability. His MD has put him on Synthroid, but my question is will his speech go back to normal and if so, how long? It's very disturbing to hear because it sounds as if he has been drinking (he doesn't at all), and I'm worried how this may affect him long term.
Avatar f tn Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.
Avatar f tn I have HOCD as well as other themes.... I have been avoiding relationships all my life since I was 16 I'm now 33.... I recently visited a strip club and I feel totally dirty for doing so but at the same time I've had zero female interaction for about 8 or 9 years....
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Avatar m tn Aggressive behavior and delayed speech patterns are common symptoms of autism. Also, consider enrolling your son in a speech therapy program. The sooner you get him started on speech therapy, the better will be the outcome. Check this: http://www.khovnanianchildrenshospital.com/KHCH/services/pediatric_rehabilitation/Our-Speech-Therapy-Program.

Avatar m tn My husband has PTSD and within the last year they perscribed blood pressure medicine at night and this has helped with his nightmares. (he does not have blood pressure issues) they say by reducing the bp while sleeping it helps.
Avatar m tn I'm sorry, I did not realize I shouldn't provide links. So, I've come back to add that there are a number of very good books about how to overcome stuttering, that way you hopefully won't have to fork out cash you don't have on real speech therapy. Simply go to the library or a good bookstore, ask the people at the desk where is the speech therapy section in the nonfiction section, and pick and choose some books until you finally find a couple that may help you.
Avatar n tn Hello ladies, I am due June.24,2016 and I find out the gender on Christmas eve, I've already decided if its a girl we will do care bear themes, but we don't have a boy theme prepared. With our first son we did lion king Any themes you have in mind? Or any you have previously used? Or just seen and thought it was cool?

Avatar f tn My daughter also had/has problems with speech. Turns out she has autism. Long before we got this diagnosis she was in speech therapy. Therapy helped a lot and I'm glad we started it as soon as we did. Try using PECS (picture exchange cards) to help him communicate. Even if he will grow out of this and it is not autism, he will probably develop some frustration from being unable to communicate well. The cards could be a great tool for him. You could also teach him some sign language.
