198419 tn?1360242356 Is it just me? Or, does anyone else miss getting learning materials in the mail? Remember when you could sign up, receive a free mag. and, while sitting on the sofa with you legs up, grab it, read the articles, put it down, only to pick it up again later and finish it? Or re-read it until it sinks in? I'm all for downloading issues on topic of interest of mags for free - but not ALL of them. I seriously miss some fact filled magazines that would come with the seasons.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
667445 tn?1230750538 Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.
Avatar n tn So, take and adjust Synthroid, and get blood tests (get Free T3 and Free T4 test), make sure get his Free T3 and Free T4 level to the top part of the normal range. His body should tell you where is his best level.
Avatar m tn I agree completely, nuts should be awarded free speech.
Avatar f tn At age 3, the school system will do a free evaluation and kids at age 3 go into the public school system for therapy (either in a developmental preschool classroom if your school district offers it or seeing a speech pathologist one on one by taking your son to a school or a therapy setting). If you don't live in the U.S., you should check and see what services your country offers.
Avatar n tn Do you live in the U.S.? Call your pediatrician and ask for a referral to your state's Birth to 3 program. There is free speech therapy and other therapies available. The evaluation is free and any therapy fee is based on your income -- most people are free. I think my copay was $6 per hour therapy session. Doesn't matter if it's autism or something else...
500419 tn?1220124743 My son had a speech delay they recognized at 18 months after he had tubes put in his ears around the same time. I took him to speech therapy at "Columbus Speech and Hearing." They first did a hearing check to make sure everything was ok. Then autism was another good thing to look into. Their first plan of attach, though, was "early intervention" with speech therapy one day a week for a half hour at "Columbus Speech and Hearing.
Avatar n tn Wondered if anyone had radiation on vocal cords and can give me some advice or recommendation of something that might help relieve some of the hoarseness. I was told to try speech therapy but it may be to soon. A small bit of alcohol, wine, mouthwash, etc. seems to help.
1667595 tn?1303333906 my 4 year also had a speech delay after speaking to her pediatrician she was put into a pediatric speech therapy session twice a week for 30 mins a day it has helped her so much she has completed her therapy and is now speaking in full sentences that we can actually understand speak to your pediatrician there is alot of local county hospitals that offers this pediatric therepy and they are wonderful with kids thats all they deal with is kids with problems in speech i hope this helps you
Avatar m tn With Gleason 9 disease and SV involvement you are certainly a candidate for adjuvant radiation therapy. A recent study in 2008 showed that patients with pT3 disease had a lower risk of biochemical recurrence when treated with radiation following their prostatectomy. In the early 1990s, 425 men were enrolled in SWOG (Southwest Oncology Group) 8794 with aggressive prostate cancer. They were randomly assigned within 16 weeks after prostatectomy into groups of adjuvant radiation or observation.
Avatar n tn No she doesnt sound Autistic but possily needs some speech therapy, do you and your husband interact with her Reading and a lot of talking ?some children are late developers aswell so dont get too worried yet ,find some little play group if there is one, other mOms there to compare with you.I agree with everything that tiredbut happy says in the above Post.
557230 tn?1269429829 d like to at least read the materials and then use this forum for more support. Can anyone point me to a website or something where I could review or buy some of the info? Thanks.
Avatar f tn My son was a late talker as well, never put him in speech therapy or anything like that, now he's 5 and won't shut up. Lol!
Avatar n tn 3 words at age 2 is way behind in language and she would qualify for speech therapy at the least. There probably is a reason for her screaming and crying, but she can't communicate that reason to you. My daughter has tantrums really bad. I think if she could communicate why, she wouldn't have some of them. Or at least I could remedy what was wrong in some of the instances.
Avatar f tn Have you thought about getting a referral from her pediatrician to get her tested for autism? If she does have autism, the diagnosis open's new doors. ABA seems to be the route that most parents of children with autism go. I have heard alot of great things about ABA but haven't tried it yet because of costs. There is also floor time and some others I can't think of at the moment.
Avatar m tn Why are YOU trying to teach him? Get him to the speech therapist now while he's still young!!! Your insurance will cover it. Also go to the regional center, they will provide free speech therapy between 0-3 years (if you don't know how to contact go ask the public school). At 3 years the public school will take over. DO NOT WAIT!!!!!
Avatar m tn Are speech therapy and occupational therapy available where you live? Are there any programs or classes in which he can be enrolled? Any specialists in the field of child development that he can see? If not, I would read to him A LOT and try to sound out words together, be encouraging over any attempt he makes and don't get upset or disappointed if he can't or won't try to say something. Only positive reinforcement.
Avatar m tn HOpefully your son is going through the school system (early childhood education) or getting speech therapy or some sort of help. States are required to give you a free evaluation and offer these things to our children. Your pediatrician's office should refer you to an appropriate doctor.
Avatar n tn It must be noted that he also started some extra speech and occupational therapy on top of his regular Autism intervention therapy at the same time so the improvements may have been due to that, we will never know. When he moved schools to start grade one we saw some significant regression, after one pretty bad weekend we decided again to try the diet, this time he was completely gluten and casein free for six months.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?
Avatar f tn Do look in to getting her some speech therapy,I think you are wasting some time by waiting till she is 4years old. Would it be an idea if you all put in some money towards the cost of this, making it a shared cost, its great that you have shown an interest in getting help for her, continue to ask her parents to take it further, the out bursts are probably due to her frustration in not being able to express herself too well.
