Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
667445 tn?1230750538 We were told this was the earliest we could test her at Long Beach Memorial in Long Beach, California. We had the hearing, mouth, eyes, everything checked. They did recommend her for speech therapy - however since she was in a private school - they would not pay for it. After working with her at home - she has progressed wonderfully. She is now an 8 year old diva that we can't get to be quiet. My son was also similiar - however we delayed in getting him tested.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar f tn he is 28 months and he has languagedelay development, after i saw a doctor he said that he has ADHD he saw him for 3, he recommended to us the speech therapy daily, after we started the speech therapy , he said that he should start to be under medication (Risperdal) my question is : is it that common to put a child that young under medication, or to diagnose him as ADHD , i am living in medial east.
Avatar n tn They say he shows atipycal behaviors such as not playing with peers, likes to be with adults, does diferent things with materials, instead of doing what he is asked to do. They also say that he does not remain at task, needs lots of redirection and is very distractive. We took him to his doctor and he did not think he falls under the autism spectrum. Then we took him to a neurologist. He does not think so either.
5549102 tn?1376522673 Hi there. Well, speech is a funny thing in that kids develop it at different rates. There is a very wide range for normal. Dropping letter sounds at the beginning, end or in the middle are all different issues in relation to speech. Is he putting any words together, like two words such as 'go bye'? "me juice"? That is probably the next thing to look for besides the articulation piece. But I think at this point, I wouldn't worry.
Avatar n tn The doctor promoted speech therapy and said there was nothing to worry about. I also took him to a child neurologist for an exam. The neurologist also did not seem to think anything was wrong. He also mentioned speech therapy and time. However the school district evaluated my son with specialists and said that he was possibly autistic. I don't know what to think. I know my son have some problems and is slow but I'm not comfortable with Autism.
Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
Avatar m tn ) and hardly able to speak and I also had much difficulty understanding what other people were saying to me. I had speech therapy 2x a week for months and had not nearly the major stroke that your sister has had. About 4 months later I was doing training sessions again for adults. Please let us know how your sister is doing. Again so sorry to hear about her. She is fortunate to have you.
Avatar f tn An OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST is who evaluates it and one that specializes in sensory is great to have. Then you do occupational therapy if he does indeed have sensory which is like play therapy for he nervous system. Kids LOVE it!! On the plus side-------------- things can get significantly better. Motor planning issues with my son are much better as well as all other aspects of sensory.
Avatar m tn Hi thank u for ur comment , yes he gets speech therapy , he doesn't have an Occupational therapy though , his speech has improved lately its just so hard trying to deal with the way he is I bought him a planner and write everything in that we have planned for the day and he loves it
198419 tn?1360242356 I am a physician who is working with a new alternative therapy for MS and other neurodegenerative conditions. Interestingly, I have had remarkable improvements not seen with any other therapy. I want to spread the word, but my anecdotal experience isn't being published in the lay literature That is unfortunate for patients.
333021 tn?1207759633 ) I started speech therapy for cognitive issues two wks ago . I have all the troubles everyone mentioned above . Avatar m tn Normal pressure hydrocephalus is a type of hydrocephalus that occurs in adults, usually in older than 60 years. The CSF drainage is blocked gradually and excess fluid builds up slowly. Since the ventricles enlarge slowly so fluid pressure may not be as high as in other types of hydrocephalus. The parts of brain mostly affected in NPH, are those that affect the legs, bladder and cognitive mental processes like memory, reasoning, speech and problem solving.
Avatar n tn s just a little behind. The doctor promoted speech therapy and said there was nothing to worry about. I also took him to a child neurologist for an exam. Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Avatar m tn t delay the speech, it helps them understand and reinforce speech. I asked for my son to be taught signs or to use some other visual communication aid about 3 years ago and the Ed Psych at the time said that as he was verbal it would be a backward step to introduce non-verbal communication systems. Now, some three years later they are now talking about teaching him signing and maybe even PECS. So much for the professionals!
Avatar m tn Not clear if heavy metals show on the scans My diagnosis as we speak right now by my Earth Metals Specialist MD is that I have Aphasia due to heavy metal poisoning, that’s what my medical form says. Avatar f tn He was assessed by our childrens hospital (CHEO) and referred to a first words program for speech therapy for six weeks. He was still having difficulties speaking clearly and a speech impedement was identified but was told because he would be starting school they could not offer any other assistance. They did a report and forwarded it to the school and he is only now, almost 9 months later getting help and we are at the end of the school year.

Avatar m tn Ive seen adults with DS and although their speech is pretty poor, you can understand what they are saying. I just worry that he will never get to that stage. What can we do to improve his speech?? Any advice would be great!
Avatar n tn I'm sorry. I know these questions are posted a lot, but I figured it would be easier me asking then trying to find another child with her exact symptoms. My daughter just turned 2 on March 25th. I'm really worried about autism. She still doesn't talk. (She says a few things, but they aren't very clear) She flaps her arms, mainly when she's dancing, but occasionally does it when she's upset. She walks on her tip toes sometimes, not often.
