Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
667445 tn?1230750538 Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.
Avatar m tn The parts of brain mostly affected in NPH, are those that affect the legs, bladder and cognitive mental processes like memory, reasoning, speech and problem solving. Treatment options are limited, surgery can relieve and those not candidates for this will have to be given behavioral therapy. Hope this helps. takecare.
Avatar n tn My 5 year old son is in Kindergarten and loves it. Academically, he is doing fine. However, he has a lot of problems with maturity. He tends to be extremely silly and goofy almost all the time and has trouble being serious. We've emphasized to him that there is a time and a place for silly behavior (not school) but it doesn't seem to be sinking in. I've noticed his silly behavior is worse when he's tired, so we try to make sure he gets to bed early.
Avatar f tn He is going to start Physical therapy, ocupacional, and speech therapy. I hope this will help him. But do you think he has autism. We are going to see a neurologist on July I hope for that time he will improve a little bit.
Avatar n tn Hope the statement, " Time heals all wound." is a true one. I guess a person should be more patient and allow more time before thoughts of the worse case scenario creeps into one's mind. I have a company as well and yesterday I had to meet with a bunch of clients. They were certainly polite, but you could'nt help but notice their shock when they heard my raspy attempt at speech. I've started using my blackberry a whole lot more to communicate.
Avatar f tn My 4 yr old son is receiving speech therapy at his pre-school. He has good eye-contact, follow 2 sentenct instructions (like go down in the basement and shut the light off and close the door), likes to ready story books, plays with his elder brother has good memory, knows rhymes, count numbers, letters, knows colors and shapes. There are few things about him which are making me worried.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?
Avatar m tn Then there is the mechanical part of communicating our language and that is speech. Problems with speech can include just trying to get the words out, pronouncing the words, the tonal quality of our speech, using emphasis and inflection. Problems with speech can be from weakness or spasticity of the muscles of our mouths, throats and vocal cords. Or it can be with the way our brain tries to direct the speech.
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.
676912 tn?1332812551 He doesn't have speech therapy. He's five years old. He speaks clearly, and has a huge vocabulary, normal for his age. I'm not 100% sure about all of it, but I know it has more to do with his brain and comprehension.
Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
Avatar f tn Is your son receiving speech therapy? I think that is the most important thing for him to improve his language. If he is already getting speech therapy, maybe he needs it more often.
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
Avatar f tn 2, he is obsessed with numbers and letters, he recognises and remembers peoples house numbers after only seeing it once and can tell who lives there, we went on holiday last year on two seperate occasions stayed at two caravans and he can still remember the numbers, he has speech and language therapy which has now been advanced because his communication and langage is of a three year old, he also knows his 2, 5 10, and 11 times tables already, what is feelings to this or diagnosis?
Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
987762 tn?1671273328 Hey thanks for the cyber hugs! I was lucky enough to learn cued articulation whilst working with kids, and a lot of the speech therapy tips and tricks i've learnt a heck of a lot over the years, i've been applying them and some do honestly help to a degree. I only know of two other options, one is medications and the other is physical aides to reduce fatigue.
500419 tn?1220124743 My son had a speech delay they recognized at 18 months after he had tubes put in his ears around the same time. I took him to speech therapy at "Columbus Speech and Hearing." They first did a hearing check to make sure everything was ok. Then autism was another good thing to look into. Their first plan of attach, though, was "early intervention" with speech therapy one day a week for a half hour at "Columbus Speech and Hearing.
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Graved Disease and has had radio iodine therapy in March. He has since fallen severely hypothyroid and has slurred speech as well as fatigue, weight gain, and irritability. His MD has put him on Synthroid, but my question is will his speech go back to normal and if so, how long? It's very disturbing to hear because it sounds as if he has been drinking (he doesn't at all), and I'm worried how this may affect him long term.
Avatar f tn Hi, my son is almost 3.5 yo. He was diagnosed with speech delay 6 moths ago, so far he finished 6 weeks Intervention program and 6 weeks of speech therapy. He's doing great, now he has around 100 words and likes to sing songs. He has troubles expressing his emotions and wishes, and does not play with kids in preschool. He's great with fine and gross motor skills, really good climber, knows all letters, counting till 100, likes to write numbers and letters, has good eye contact.
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Avatar m tn Aggressive behavior and delayed speech patterns are common symptoms of autism. Also, consider enrolling your son in a speech therapy program. The sooner you get him started on speech therapy, the better will be the outcome.
