Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
667445 tn?1230750538 We were told this was the earliest we could test her at Long Beach Memorial in Long Beach, California. We had the hearing, mouth, eyes, everything checked. They did recommend her for speech therapy - however since she was in a private school - they would not pay for it. After working with her at home - she has progressed wonderfully. She is now an 8 year old diva that we can't get to be quiet. My son was also similiar - however we delayed in getting him tested.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
333021 tn?1207759633 ) I started speech therapy for cognitive issues two wks ago . I have all the troubles everyone mentioned above . Avatar f tn We actually got really nice shades for our baby room regularly $40...on sale for $10.
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
325405 tn?1262290178 t believe she is pushing drug therapy here. I think she is supporting you for the speech therapy. As far as pushing the other stuff, I haven't seen her other posts to know where she stands.
398059 tn?1447945633 My two days therapy involved speaking with a speech specialist , speaking with a occupational therapist, and working with a physical therapist. The speech therapist gave me tests to check on my cognitive skills. We found I had memory issues but determined they were tied to how I was feeling day to day. I saw her on Wednesday and had difficulties with some of her testing.
Avatar f tn Therapists’ first work with patients to create sing-song sentences that can be set to familiar tunes, then work on removing the melody to leave behind a more normal speaking pattern. This kind of therapy is recommended for patients who have no meaningful form of speech, but can understand language and have the patience for therapy sessions. I hope this helps. Take care always and regards.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.
676912 tn?1332812551 Receptive and expressive are just as important as articulation and they do speech therapy for it. All three parts of speech is how a child communicates which makes up the specialty of speech. How do you know he has receptive language issues? Who diagnosed this?
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
Avatar f tn s slowly getting better since he started school last september. He did recieve speech therapy for 6weeks, but personally i dont think this helped much. I sit with him sometimes and help him pronounce words. With the understanding issue, i would say, try and say 'key words'...this is what i do. Plently of things my son Steven has learned, and can respond, however, many things he's not understanding. Use simple, one maybe two words at a time. This will help him understand better.
Avatar m tn I also have serious anxiety during presentations which i am going to be doing a lot for business. My doctor told me to take 1.5 mg of Atvian one hour before the presentation. I am mainly asking if this will throw of my speeches if i take the dose of Atvian. Also are there more effective medications for my speech anxiety.
Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.

5549102 tn?1376522673 Hi there. Well, speech is a funny thing in that kids develop it at different rates. There is a very wide range for normal. Dropping letter sounds at the beginning, end or in the middle are all different issues in relation to speech. Is he putting any words together, like two words such as 'go bye'? "me juice"? That is probably the next thing to look for besides the articulation piece. But I think at this point, I wouldn't worry.
Avatar m tn The length of recovery depend on age, general health of the patient, location and size of the meningioma. I would suggest you to opt for physical and occupational therapy to reduce these impairments. Also please be sure to inform your doctor incase a new symptom appears.
Avatar f tn They said that she had a speech delay and some A typical tendencies. She will be in Speech therapy and pretty much have her own preschool teacher for the next 3 months. I am also placing her in Story Time at the library. I have went all over the internet for any disorder that could resemble her and have found none. She does have a hard time with eye contact, which I am honestly not that worried about. She has very little speech so I am not expecting much eye contact.
