If you are concerned, you should ask your doc or MS Specialist to refer you to a Speech-Language Pathologist, who can test you to see if you really do have problems, and can also treat you if you do. Hi and welcome For what its worth, i would think he might need a spinal MRI too but even if there was something that showed up, it shouldn't be affecting his speech because thats controlled by the brain eg the Cerebellum, Broca's area etc.

Did your husband ever get any physical therapy or speech therapy after his stroke? I got physical therapy a year and half later after my stroke, in addition to the physical therapy and speech therapy that I got following my stroke. It could probably help your husband.

JJ, I'm pretty aware of the difference between cognitive retrieval and language expression issues. They involve deficits in very different areas of the brain. Several folks on this forum have posted about the lesions in the posterior lateral horns of the frontal lobe. This can be Broca's area and damage in this area causes a failure in speech production. Anomic aphasia (word on the tip-of-the-tongue) has been mapped on fMRI to damage to the frontal and parietal lobes of the brain.

I am soon going for a neuro/psych re-evaluation. I am hoping she recommends speech therapy. I think it would help a lot. It is very difficult to deal with, as I am a teacher and public speaker. You have some form of aphasia, which is where your speech will get confused. You mentioned neuralgia, and pain can cause a person to lose focus. Hopefully you are receiving proper medications to stop your discomfort, because that should help you with your word thing, if that is the cause, and it's the one thing I KNOW will cause aphasia, which I have it from injuries in a car wreck.

I have not heard about Neuroaid until now (especially that it is not approved, yet). I googled this, and what I saw was that it is some kind of newly developed drug that is produced in China. Although there is some research being run now to test the effectiveness of this drug, I found an article about this drug (see the link). Based on the literature, this drug is being used in China in patient with brain injuries such as stroke 48 hours following a stroke.

I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Yes U should look into speech therapy, but therapy in general...make sure his hearing is ok......there r forms of autisum that can case speech delays...look up aspbergers (sp?).......I hope ur son responds to whichever therapy u choose.

He suffered massive brain damage on the L side. His speech was greatly effected...severe aphasia. He now struggles but it has improved greatly and keeps getting better. Patience and persistence. My best to him!

My vision would be like i walked inside from a sunny day into a dark room, then my arms.go numb and my fingers curl up, also start losing my speech and then I blank out for 5 to 10 minutes. I am aware of things when i blank out and when i come to i am extremely tired and it takes me awhile to get my speech back. I have these two to three times a month. I have been through so many doctors that it it is so frustrating. All of my mri, EEG, and video EEG have came back normal.
