667445 tn?1230750538 We were told this was the earliest we could test her at Long Beach Memorial in Long Beach, California. We had the hearing, mouth, eyes, everything checked. They did recommend her for speech therapy - however since she was in a private school - they would not pay for it. After working with her at home - she has progressed wonderfully. She is now an 8 year old diva that we can't get to be quiet. My son was also similiar - however we delayed in getting him tested.
Avatar f tn They just tell us what we already know. They have prescribed just 1 hour of speech therapy weekly for him. Both I and my husband are working very hard but with very slow success. Any help greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn For most stroke patients, the rehabilitation process includes nursing, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), therapeutic recreation (TR) and speech therapy (or speech language therapy, SLP). OT involves exercise and training to help the stroke patient relearn everyday activities, sometimes called the Activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating and drinking, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting.
293420 tn?1243142938 There are TONS of parents who post about their toddlers/children having speech and language issues, but they have to post on Parenting Toddlers 1-5. It would be great to have all of the posts in one place and be able to track one another's progress with their children and hear stories from other parents about their S/L impaired children. I'm an SLP and I would LOVE to have a forum for this. I'm surprised that there is not one already!
398059 tn?1447945633 My two days therapy involved speaking with a speech specialist , speaking with a occupational therapist, and working with a physical therapist. The speech therapist gave me tests to check on my cognitive skills. We found I had memory issues but determined they were tied to how I was feeling day to day. I saw her on Wednesday and had difficulties with some of her testing.

Avatar f tn Therapeutic recreation works on several areas including problem solving, improving movement and re-entry into the community through familiar, new, and adaptive leisure skills. Speech and language therapy is appropriate for patients who have problems understanding speech or written words, or problems forming speech. She may also require help from a psychologist to cope up with ger condition.Take good care of her and hope she gets well soon.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
Avatar f tn I would make an appointment for an evaluation with a Speech Therapist just so you can put you fears to rest. Most insurance will cover an eval. I do know the younger a child is when the receive speech therapy, the easier it is to correct. Has she been nervous about anything? Has she had any accidents lately?
Avatar n tn while it's possible that it's a normal part of her development, I would be concerned. She most likely needs speech/language therapy. I am surprised that her pediatrician isn't concerned. in the mean time, if she is responding well to flash cards, i would create activities that foster language development. help her learn to put sentences together by modeling and have her repeat you (as you are). Since she does well with flashcards, you may want to look at http://www.speakingofspeech.
Avatar f tn Believe is or not, it is quite normal for toddlers to bang their head when frustrated or tired. My daughter did the same. I would just tell her over and over to not bang her head against the wall because she would hurt herself. I was beginning to wonder if she even felt pain and my uncle asked me the question also. Eventually, it stopped. I just tried to redirect her. Get him interested in something else.
Avatar n tn 3 words at age 2 is way behind in language and she would qualify for speech therapy at the least. There probably is a reason for her screaming and crying, but she can't communicate that reason to you. My daughter has tantrums really bad. I think if she could communicate why, she wouldn't have some of them. Or at least I could remedy what was wrong in some of the instances.
Avatar m tn We tried to blend up chicken and vegetables last night and feed it to him and he threw it up everywhere. We are very stressed out about this and concrened for obvious reasons. Please help! Thank you.
Avatar n tn I do know he hums while he does activities that are fun for him. He has a lot of Energy and likes to learn new words and activities. He appears to be very social at the park. He will imitate children and try to interact with them. He is not shy around adults. He smiles at strangers and tries to sit next to other parents at the park. He wants to be the center of attention and enjoys the company of others at home. He is constantly pulling my hand to his bedroom to play with him.
Avatar n tn My father who is now 79 had a stroke in 2007 - hematoma and he lost his speech and the right side of his body was paralyzed. However, he regained his speech and body movements after 6 weeks of therapy. But his right arm is still paralyzed. I was wondering what kind of treatment or therapy would help his right arm. He has completely regained all that he lost with the stroke except his right arm. Can you please let me know if there are new type of treatment for his right arm.
Avatar f tn If his receptive language is slow, then directins would be hard for him. As his speech is developing, pay attention to the areas of speech -------- receptive, expressive and articulation. Even a slight issue can cause things to be harder for him. I'd try to remain patient. As he does get closer to two, it is natural to test boundaries and authority and to try to gain independence.
Avatar m tn doctors are saying that it will take time to get speech but one of the junior doctor said only 10% chances are there for speech from that day i am getting lot of tension about my brother.i took second opinion from the other doctor he also said it will take time to get speech i dnt know whom to belive. You people have experiance in this case please explain me about this and also wht r the things steps i have to took for his impovment.

325405 tn?1262290178 t believe she is pushing drug therapy here. I think she is supporting you for the speech therapy. As far as pushing the other stuff, I haven't seen her other posts to know where she stands.
Avatar f tn suggested occupational therapy then speech therapy. She said that some kids who have speech delays are showing some Autistic traits that will disappear later on. My husband doesn't want him to start any therapies yet because he said he's still young & he wants to give him a time because he believes that it's not Autism. We enrolled him to a toddler class instead so he can interact with other kids because he's our only child & he doesn't have playmates.
Avatar f tn t have my baby yet (fingers crossed for tomorrow) but on the news last night this subject came up saying a lot of toddlers need speech therapy now. Maybe see if you can take him to a local speech therapist for some guidance apparently it helps wonderfully.
