Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
Avatar n tn He has lost all movement down his right side and his speech is poor. His memory is perfect and he is quite aware of his suroundings. A speech therapist came in today and he is on semisolid food like yogurt and all liguids most be in a custard consistency state. He is also taking aspirin and is awaiting physio. His blood pressure was high again last night. Thanks again for your welcome words.
Avatar f tn I'm a 22 yr old male I just started going to the therapist and have been given an initial diagnosis of dmdd I researched it and it's really only found in children and adolescents. I believe I have bipolar disorder and asked my therapist if she thought I had it she said she didn't know enough about me yet to give this diagnosis. I guess I just don't understand how I'm initially diagnosed with dmdd and will it turn into a bipolar disorder diagnosis?
Avatar n tn I have not heard about Neuroaid until now (especially that it is not approved, yet). I googled this, and what I saw was that it is some kind of newly developed drug that is produced in China. Although there is some research being run now to test the effectiveness of this drug, I found an article about this drug (see the link). Based on the literature, this drug is being used in China in patient with brain injuries such as stroke 48 hours following a stroke.
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar f tn You need to speak to a therapist who has experience working with children w/down syndrome. Also, check with her doctor, and if she doesn't have a good enough one call around til you find one with extensive experience. How old is your sister? Does she speak sign language? I personally think the best thing a family can do with a child with down syndrome especially, or any child. is to begin teaching them sign language from birth, because often a child can use that before they can speak.
Avatar m tn But the more pragmatic areas of speech (organizing thought to say what you want to say ---- expressive and taking in what someone else has said to you-------- receptive) can also be affected by motor planning. An occupational therapist evaluates for sensory integration disorder. But speech and social skills can be affected by this (and it is not autism but a nervous system issue). So, please talk to your physician and I'd start with a speech eval.
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar f tn I currently have the rest of this school year to devote to helping a child in the wider Boston area. I have qualifications both as a Montessori teacher, and as a therapist for children diagnosed with mental illness. I am offering to provide my time, understanding, training, and respect for this condition, in exchange for the experience of working with a child, who I believe, with the right support, can learn to be happy, and teach us all something along the way.
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor, I am a student from a suburban area of India and my group is tying to spread awareness among the people out here with regards to different development problem associated wiith kids of around age group 2 to 7. Many mental problems related to a child like autism, down syndrome, speech problem etc is our concerened area.
Avatar n tn Children become very attached to caregivers. The speech therapist who will be working with him should be able to give you more information about behavior and/or other developmental concerns specific to your child. He/she SHOULD have knowledge of normal development and when to refer to other professionals for screening/evaluations.
168006 tn?1241012961 He is extremely social, communicative, and loving. His speech skills are far behind what they should be. He sees a speech therapist as well as an occupational therapist twice a week and that has really helped him. He does not take any meds (even if they tried I would not let him take them). My suggestion would be to get your son examined by a child psychologist- try and get a diagnosis. The main issue you may have is that it seems that your son once had skills and has now regressed.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
Avatar n tn At 2 yr annual physical, Dr asked me if my son was speaking in 2 -3 word sentences. NO was the answer. He directed me to a speech therapist, that noticed "sensory perception problems", which sent me to an Occupational Therapist, that told us he was developmentally behind. Once he made it to 1st grade and the teacher felt Mike might be dyslexic......we were well aware of problems. He's 17 now, doing great in a school that has a "multi-sensory" learning approach.
Avatar n tn but again, you really need a speech therapist/speech pathologist to assess that, if you have concerns. If you live in the U.S., I know the school system can give a free assessment for you. They start handling children at the age of 3. Your pediatrician's office would know whom to contact or at least start pointing you in the right direction. It's summertime, so most school systems are just closed right now.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.
Avatar n tn I live in Delhi, India and My pediatrician suggested me to consult speech therapist and I visited speech therapist also. He says she will talk in few months after attending few sessions, however, i dont see any change in my daughter after attending 5 sessions also. She imitates all the things but dont speak.......pls guide..
Avatar f tn My son has sensory integration disorder and the two things that were noticed first were his speech and tripping. He was three. He was evaluated by an occupational therapist and has been doing OT since being diagnosed with sensory. He is now 6 and doing really well. Just thought I'd throw sensory into the mix for you to check out and see what you think.
1664949 tn?1303075099 yes he gets speech therapy in school and once a week thru a outside speech therapist. He doesnt really sort them they just have to be in a straight line and facing the same direction. I will check the books out thanks..
Avatar f tn I work with development delayed children if you are seeing a therapist with your child the best thing they can do for you is be your voice with the doctors we have a speech therapist that gets things done with the doctors tell the therapist all your concerns that is the best thing some parents think maybe they sound like they are complaining to people please don't think that I tell everyone you don't know unless you ask questions
Avatar n tn t looked at any of them in well over a year (I get more advice from therapists, the developmental pediatrician we saw, and from the developmental preschool teacher and the speech therapist and occupational therapist at the preschool). Anyways, other people on the forum might know some websites to check out. Good luck. Hopefully you can figure something out.
Avatar f tn I am being set up to see a speech therapist in the near future and will let you know how much it helps!
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
