Avatar m tn Speech is ok but gets slurry at times and I have been advised to get a speech therapist also. Do u also feel speech therapist is necessary? Blood pressure goes from normal to about systolic high/80-85 and sometimes systolic high/95-100 (systolic high being about 140-155).
Avatar n tn This really is down to mum and dad to discuss with help from professionals about how they can teach him appropriate language. A Speech and Language Therapist (SALT)should really be involved because they also affects social interaction skills. Does he repeat words/phrases from TV? If he does that is delayed echolalia and a SALT should be made aware of this and should assess his speech as echolalia is a speech disorder. He may rely on TV/film phrases to make up his speech.
168006 tn?1241012961 He is extremely social, communicative, and loving. His speech skills are far behind what they should be. He sees a speech therapist as well as an occupational therapist twice a week and that has really helped him. He does not take any meds (even if they tried I would not let him take them). My suggestion would be to get your son examined by a child psychologist- try and get a diagnosis. The main issue you may have is that it seems that your son once had skills and has now regressed.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Stammering of voice is fairly common with adults after any stressful incident and could be associated with tourette syndrome. In general, the outlook is very good with about 80 percent, as it will be resolving completely. However, the prognosis depends upon many different factors. The best thing to do would be to see your Doctor first and request that you need to be referred to a speech and language therapist. Hope this helps.
616452 tn?1253877644 s social interaction difficulties are caused by, and then the Speech and Language Therapist and Educational Psychologist should put together a programme and structure for school. For example, my son cannot find the words to interact socially. So the SALT will teach him learnt phrases to say to children as conversation openers. He also wanted to re-enact things alot, and couldn't organise himself in time for playtime.
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
Avatar m tn Hi thank u for ur comment , yes he gets speech therapy , he doesn't have an Occupational therapy though , his speech has improved lately its just so hard trying to deal with the way he is I bought him a planner and write everything in that we have planned for the day and he loves it
Avatar n tn Sometimes kids just pronounce things wrong and need a speech therapist for a few years. Sometimes it will straighten out on its own... but again, you really need a speech therapist/speech pathologist to assess that, if you have concerns. If you live in the U.S., I know the school system can give a free assessment for you. They start handling children at the age of 3. Your pediatrician's office would know whom to contact or at least start pointing you in the right direction.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar n tn We read books to him in English and Croatian and he seems to enjoy that. Outside our home we talk English. Some speech therapist told us that it would be a waist of money and time to bring him in if we don't talk English to him all the time. Otherwise, he is making eye contact, seems to be interested in adults and other kids. He is refusing potty.
Avatar m tn I am 16 years-old and have been stuttering for pratically all my life. I have been to a speech therapist for about 5 years but when i turned 15 she said that she can't help me aymore and I really have to push myself if Iwant my speech to get better. My parents told me that I got hit by a swing in the head at about 4 years old and it was an inch away from my eye. Ive been stuttering a lot lately and my head hurts(headaches). Does anybody have any advice or suggestions?
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar f tn I would suggest that she is also assessed by a Speech and Language Therapist because although she developed speech you are saying that she may have problems processing the meaning of language and that she also doesn't understand some types of humour. This is typical of Semantic Pragmatic Disorder which can accompany high functioning autism or aspergers.
325405 tn?1262290178 What types of things would you write on an IEP for developmental preschool for speech delay and sensory integration issues? (speech delay most likely caused by auditory processing problems/sensory integration). Daughter gets evaluated by the school system in a couple weeks and then the IEP meeting is the following week. Her Birth to 3 therapist is going to attend the meeting with me.
Avatar m tn My grandson saw a paediatrician a couple of months ago but all the paediatrician says is that we need to see a speech therapist, and have blood tests. he has offered no other options. We have an assessment booked for speech therapy on Monday 9th February, and are awaiting the results of the blood test. We attend playgroups for developmentally delayed children and also, general soft play and toddler groups. He attends nursery two mornings per week.
Avatar f tn Recently my 3 yr old has been going to a psychiatrist and they gave him clonidine for ADHD, he's on the smallest possible dose! It seems to help slow him down but he's still downright mean!!! He doesnt think twice about pulling hair, hitting, pinching, and even biting. Adults and other children. Most of the time he does it when he thinks he is being restrained or when another child is too close, giving him a look or trying to take something away from him. He is such a bully!!
Avatar f tn Since she just started doing this, is there anything I can do in the meantime? I know with adults the therapist makes the individual "face their fears" but how does a 7 year old know what her fear is & what she thinks is going to happen? I feel so bad that she is going through this...
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
Avatar m tn Many, if not all, individuals on the autistic spectrum have sensory differences which range from mild to severe (quote by Temple Grandin). An Occupational Therapist should assess for this and put together a programme. The sooner any therapies are started the better the outcome. Rather than bringing up 'autism' would it be possible to mention echolalia or sensory integration disorder as something you came across whilst on the internet and thought it reminded you of this child?
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar m tn t have early intervention under age 3, but at age 3 1/2, she started going to a speech therapist and then continued to get a therapist at elementary school, though she was in a regular classroom for most of the day, just 1 hour a day with the speech therapist who also aided her in reading and writing. She spoke late, and when she did speak everything was pronounced wrong or she'd say the wrong word.
Avatar n tn Give him some time to respond to the therapy (at least a few months, I’d imagine) and then perhaps ask for a re-assessment. If his speech development is later assessed to be typical, and he is not showing any other signs of delay, then you can rest easy. If however, he continues to struggle, then you haven’t lost any time in getting him some help and might consider pursuing further services for him. Good luck to you and your family.
Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
Avatar f tn If you live in the US, by law all children age 3 to 5 can be evaluated by the school system per your request. If you do this, I'd go the full rhelm of speech, occupational therapist, and psychological. If he qualifies, he then can attend your local public school's preschool intervention program. It is usually 4 half days a week and a child rides the bus. In our district, sensory is not its own issue and services have to be provided under another heading.
Avatar m tn Ive seen adults with DS and although their speech is pretty poor, you can understand what they are saying. I just worry that he will never get to that stage. What can we do to improve his speech?? Any advice would be great!
Avatar m tn I am wanting so answers regarding ADD in adults. What are the major symptoms? Does it get more severe with age? My Focus in high school was very difficult. I could not focus in class at all. It is strange because I was voted the outstanding athlete of the year in my graduating high school class. Today many years later i am full of fear when it comes to learning..................
