Avatar n tn My 4 year old grandson has a good vocabulary and pronunciation skills yet he cannot put a sentence together in the way the words should be arranged. His fine motor skills are not good and he doesn't want to be engaged in activities that could help them without forcing the issue. My question - does the part of the brain that controls the fine motor skills have anything to do with the part used to make complete sentences?
Avatar m tn Will rock her head from side to side when tired, has speech problems and does not have the average vocabulary and pronunciation of an 8 year old. Avoids showering, washing her face or brushing her hair. She is also very small for her age, has low self esteem. When scolded she seems to tune out. She is very intelligent and appears to be a normal child aside from all these abnormal things. I would like to get her tested but I wouldnt know where to begin. Mild autism perhaps?
342647 tn?1291107933 s developing her speech normally. Like Joy, I think that if your daughter is older (3 or 4) and having problems with stuttering and pronunciation then you should get her assessed. My friend has a 4 year old who I still have trouble understanding. She always has to "translate" for me. One of the reasons for this problem could be her chronic ear infections causing her to have trouble hearing herself and others.
Avatar f tn he started saying 3-4 words when he was 18 months but soon he lost his speech. sometimes he says mamma but then stop saying it too for long time. He understands some instructions not all. otherwise he seems to be normal he play with toys and with other people. He is not aggressive at all. he know what he wants and make us understand by gestures. pls tell me is delayed speech is normal or symptoms of autism.
Avatar f tn I had a great deal of speech problems with my first flare. I didn't have uncontrollable laughing, but I had three months where I couldn't find the words to say what I wanted. It was very frustrating. I had to communicate by pointing and attempting to describe what I was talking about. Or I would use the wrong word and wouldn't realize it. Are you working with a neurologist, or a general practitioner?
Avatar f tn The problem is everyone is going to screw up the pronunciation and spelling. It will get annoying to her as well as you.
1512722 tn?1313697879 m not sure on the pronunciation of your girl name either, but just basing it looks, I would choose Amelya
432779 tn?1364494875 To be honest I really like the way you spelled the pronunciation of the name. I think Keevah is really nice. Also, I like that you're going with traditional Irish names. For our boy we chose Finnigan!
667445 tn?1230750538 The problem is related to his speech. He is not started to speak even basic words like mama, papa etc as yet. He is otherwise a normal child, doing all activities as normal kids. Not very social though, prefer to create his own activity within a bunch of kids and involve himself in it. Usually mutter words in his own language, sometimes loud when excited. His child specialist(doctor) recommends to have a consultancy from a speech therapist if we (parents) are more concerned.
Avatar m tn Then there is the mechanical part of communicating our language and that is speech. Problems with speech can include just trying to get the words out, pronouncing the words, the tonal quality of our speech, using emphasis and inflection. Problems with speech can be from weakness or spasticity of the muscles of our mouths, throats and vocal cords. Or it can be with the way our brain tries to direct the speech.
9771188 tn?1405907831 Has anyone had problems communicating? I have problems with finding the right word to use. Sometimes I use I will get so frustrated. My family and friends say that I repeat myself a lot. I do know this, especially when I am excited, happy or upset. I completely lose my train of thought. I used to be able to speak in public, and train people. This has been difficult for me. Am I alone? I have battled through much worse demons than this, but I don't want to give up now.
Avatar f tn re not sure if we have the right spelling for the pronunciation we want.. Uh-Lee-Uh. we want that pronunciation, any spelling suggestions for that would be great! :) Thanks so much!
Avatar m tn once my Double vision worsen, My mind started blanking out alot, remembering words/sentences was getting harder, pronouncing words i heard especially long ones became very difficult because of this my speech seem to be affected i could no longer talk fluent, but I would 'Uh' alot or pause sentences, in my mind sentences feel like this ' I might have co---rg--ce' trouble remembering full words/pronunciation in one or more words.
Avatar f tn I really like Irish names, particularly ones that are not used much any more, even here in Ireland. My friend's little girl is named Fia and it means 'deer' or 'wild thing'. I also love Saoirse (meaning freedom), Gráinne (a derivative of the word of love), Roisín (meaning little rose) Reiltín (means little star) and Aoife. You'll have to look up pronunciation of all of these online, as the Irish language has a completely different set of pronunciation rules to English.
Avatar f tn I have 1 daughter and 2 boys already. The name is cute. ... as for pronunciation people may get confused how to pronounce it because of the I.....I would think you could say it 3 ways ale-onna, ale-anna or alayna. I'm not sure what pronunciation you were going for but I think there all nice. Congrats!
1546730 tn?1312854492 I agree with huluhutgirl on the pronunciations - it really depends on your intentions. From experience I encourage you to choose a name that isn't confusing or requires constant correction in spelling or pronunciation. As a recipient of such a name, it's frustrating even after all these years.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I had this test 3 yrs ago and it showed food getting stuck on right side so went to speech therapy learned some tricks. Things have changed this time for the worse the test showed that food is getting stuck in my esophagus and wont move even after large quantities of fluid. I only eat 1 meal a day because after the 1st few bites and havibg it stuck there I lose my appetite. I go to speech nxt week and see what they can do for me.
Avatar f tn My son has some speech issues (he just turned 5), possible very mild PDD-NOS (autism spectrum), specialists do not seem to agree on this topic, probably because it is so mild. As for me, I could care less what they call him as it does not change anything. His vocabulary is average/above average for his age....The problematic area is reciprocal communication, i.e. being able to initiate/sustain a conversation, or have a social chat. His pronunciation is perfect.
Avatar m tn First of all, sorry for my poor English. I have some question about HIV test. I asked my doctor about the method of HIV and aks her is it EIA? She said yes. She spoke the whole name of the method. Pronunciation was like "en-ter-tise" blood test....Is that kind of EIA? One more thing, do all the clinics have license to do HIV tests?
Avatar m tn t breathe all the time even though the spirometer tests were normal and I was scared about it. Have you seen a speech therapist? It made a world of a difference for me. What happened is, and I know this sounds crazy, but your body has probably forgotten how to breathe. Since anxiety makes people have bad breathing patterns, even when you're not anxious, you can feel out of breath. I laughed when I was told to go to a speech therapist but I was oh so wrong.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old granddaughter has obvious speech problems. It is very hard to understand her. Her speech patterns have also changed. She used to call her mother "Mama-ee" and now she calls her "Mahee". She cannot pronounce her own name, Meaghan. I want my daughter to get her a hearing test and she says she does not think she has a hearing problem.
Avatar f tn I think if you are planning to call her something as pretty & unique as Lyric already is, the spelling change may be unnecessary & cause pronunciation problems throughout her life. Just my opinion though. I do like the name Lyric Yvette though-it flows nicely & isn't common enough that there will be multiple Lyrics in her class, but not so outlandish as to cause her to be teased-any more than children tease anyway.
