Problems with speech can include just trying to get the words out, pronouncing the words, the tonal quality of our speech, using emphasis and inflection. Problems with speech can be from weakness or spasticity of the muscles of our mouths, throats and vocal cords. Or it can be with the way our brain tries to direct the speech.
There is a particular type of speech that is characteristic of MS and is called "scanning speech." You probably have all heard it at some time.
Been experiencing problems with slurred speech and pronouncing certain words since February of this year. I tried cutting out various anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications to see if this helped the issue, but it didn't help any.
The following things seem to make it worse -
1. Caffiene
2. Tiredness
3. High sugar content
4. Speaking with strangers or people I don't know as well
I have my good and bad days, but the issue seems to be getting worse.
My 4 year old granddaughter has obvious speech problems. It is very hard to understand her. Her speech patterns have also changed. She used to call her mother "Mama-ee" and now she calls her "Mahee". She cannot pronounce her own name, Meaghan. I want my daughter to get her a hearing test and she says she does not think she has a hearing problem.
Also, the facial numbness comes and goes. Today I feel the numbness has gone to the right side of my face. I had a CT scan in the emergency room and they say that it was clear. I do not have any facial drooping but as stated above I do have hearing loss, facial numbness and occasional ear pain. Will my hearing come back and the numbness subside? any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
I am worried about my son who has turned 3 in January. He has speech problems and has difficulty pronouncing most words although he is getting easier to understand and is getting slightly better he is putting words together to form sentences but i find it hard to understand him most of the time.
My baby was born " Tongue Tied " which is where the piece were the bottom of the tongue and bottom of the mouth connect. He got it cut will it cause him to talk funny in the future?
I do not have Sjogrens, Lupus or any of those auto-immune diseases according to my Rheumy. I would have to say the swallowing problems came first but now my speech is being effected dry mouth or not. t be drinking because he on medication in general not based on the the fact he is taking the medication for a speech impairment. I am not quite sure what its called or even if there is a name for the problem I have. Im aware of my speech problem. Some symptoms that i have is short sentences, trouble pronouncing some words and can't really keep a long conversation. This has been affecting my life in different ways such as relationship with wife,family, friends and work. Its something that also puts me in depression thinking why can't i be like others.

s actually very common for people to become self conscious when they have speech issues no matter the severity or causation, but with speech issues you can inadvertently make the situation worse if you get too anxious about making mistakes, what others will think etc it's important to understand what's causing the situation and what you need to learn to manage the situation, so please be proactive and consider getting your speech issue assessed.
