Speech pathology vs audiology

Common Questions and Answers about Speech pathology vs audiology

speech

Avatar f tn Truth is, it is a founded concern, but on the flips side, most states offer free college tuition to those with hearing impairments, and you would be a sure fit for any audiology program. I would wager you would have job offers before you even graduated. Hearing Aid companies and cochlear implant companies would be beating down your door.... but you would have to be willing to go in to audiology in the first place. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn I have seen my Family Physician, ENT, and Neurologist. I had full scale Audiology tests that determined symptoms were caused by central nervous system not ears. My neurologist has diagnosed Atypical migraines. My questions are: Can this type of migraine cause brain damage? Is there any known medication that possibly gives relief to these headaches? I was prescribed Migranal. It takes the pounding headache away but that is all.
Avatar n tn I have a 22 month old speech delayed son. After looking up possibilities of why he might not be speaking (much) I noticed one cause was autism. I have previous experience with working with adults with autism, Aspergers, etc., but am unsure how autism and autism spectrum disorders usually present themselves in toddlers. Here's a brief summary of my son: My son stays at home with me. My husband works from home as well so there is always one of us attending to all his needs.
Avatar f tn ve lost almost 70% of my hearing in the speech range on my left side. I was just told last week by a NS at Columbia (NYC) that it IS NOT due to chiari....REALLY? Then why is everything I'm reading in the liturature (from American Hearing Assoc. to National Institutes of Health) state that this IS related to chiari? This doc also told me "ya know, eventually your brain will shrink as you age and you won't need surgery"(!!?!!?) Someone PLEASE TELL ME I'M NOT CRAZY!!

778872 tn?1243740453 Over a month ago an Urgent Care Physician sent me to the ER with droopiness in my face (left side), slurred speech, (I knew what I wanted to say, and was able to say it but the speech was just slurred) numbness on the left side of my face and mouth, slight weakness of arm and leg on the left side, visual deficits (a dark comma shape in my peripheral vision on the left and only able to follow my hand out to about 45 degrees if looking straight ahead.
220090 tn?1379167187 You are better off going to your local NHS Audiology Department for hearing aids than buying them privately. You are more likely to get prescribed the most appropriate hearing aid for your hearing loss.
Avatar n tn I did research on the web once I knew the pathology and found lots of links about lumpectomy vs mastectomy, total hysterectomy, treatment with chemo and radiation vs radiation alone, aromatase inhibitors (antiestrogen agents) and started making a list of questions so I could make a better decision about what I WANTED. Its overwhelming I know. Just hang in there and take it day by day. If you would like to talk you can e-mail me back.
Avatar f tn I have had this diagnosis since 2003, actually this post was prompted by looking up the difference between a ENT specialist and a Neurotologist - I have been diagnosed on audiology (CNT for loud sounds, as well as word discrimination problems that are.. remarkable).
168348 tn?1379357075 So now the gameplan is to only take the Vit D once a week vs. 2X week (so 50,000 iu's vs. 100,000 iu's) and recheck it again in 10 weeks. I await the unrelated kidney stone analysis and 24hr urine study, but all the other thyroid test (blood) were okay and my TSH is up to 2.4 from 1.3 but since my micros were so small and incdiental, both my Primary Doc and my Endo agree to keep my Synthroid dosing where it is at 62.5mcgs vs. 75 .... I was a bit concerned with it over 2.
Avatar m tn hi i have posted a question about my son before i am still awaiting an appointment from side view to assess my 4 year for asd but still waiting he had his audiology appointment today and does have hearing loss but they say he has glue ear, that would explain having the tv up load and keep saying what what when i speak to him but i,m so concerned that they will say his bad behaviour is done to some hearing loss surely not.

648910 tn?1290663083 t THAT hard) and I realized that seemed to help, me seeing the words vs. trying to hear in mass confusion (when kids are yelling and other folks talking). My hearing evoked potentials were "fine" according to the Dr.'s at NYU.. I have them listed somewhere on here if anyone actually can interpret them.
437280 tn?1225517803 I just had an ultrasound guided core needle biopsy on a 1cm mass that was detected with mammography and ultrasound. It is non palpable. My family physician called me with the preliminary pathology report. He said there were both Ductile In Situ and Invasive Ductile cancer cells. I'm confused as to how there can be both. Doesn't invasive mean that it's not confined to the duct anymore and therefore not in situ? Or do I actually have two kinds of cancer?
594907 tn?1227309164 i cannot understand what she is saying most of the time...after about 5 minutes her speech is okay and she can communicate but mostly it is jibberish and she finally just stops talking and just lays there because she cannot communicate with me. After all of that disappears, she goes straight to sleep. She has complained about her lips being numb...not sure why this happens nd Dr. cannot explain either...not sure any of this helps...
Avatar f tn His doctor stated it could have been from using a jumperoo for a long time. He is delayed in speech. He does know words but he doesn't use them to communicate and doesn't know how to make sentences. I have researched autism, but due to the fact that he is very social and likes to play with adults and children it just doesn't seem to fit right. His neurologist stated that although he does seem to have some things that scream autism, at time he seems to be a normal two year old.

490443 tn?1236648256 Not likely cancer but ask your doctor what the final pathology showed. Also ask if you need to take thyroid hormone -- likely you do. The first few weeks after surgery are up&down -- hang in there, it will improve. But tell your doctor what your are experiencing.
Avatar m tn He missed the expected milestones for number of words at 15 months and 18 months-I think he was in the very small minority- this had me very worried. We took him to the speech expert and they recommended speech therapy. We did this, and pretty soon he was talking up a storm. I don't know if it was the therapy that did it or if it was just part of the variability-(Now he talks a lot (a lot) and is very very active-to the point that I have wondered if he might be "hyperactive".
Avatar f tn So, around this time last year I experienced tingling in my left hand that lasted for a few days, coupled with extreme fatigue. Days later, I developed nystagmus only upon waking that lasted for about 10 minutes or so. That eventually went away after about a month. About six months later I had a severe headache that migrated to my right eye and lasted for over a week. Went to an optometrist, no optic neuritis.
