Avatar f tn Ask your therapists for therapies that do not require physical movement like mental imagery, mirror-box therapy, thermal therapy, music therapy, passive movement. If they do not know of these they are way behind in keeping up with research. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!

Avatar m tn Thank you! I have many of those symptoms. I am in Vestibular PT in an effort to improve the symptoms. I hope it helps.
Avatar m tn Honestly, therapy is a great help and I would highly recommend it. It is a good way to bounce ideas and thoughts off of a professional who is not there to judge you. My therapist always give me little insights into the biology/pathology of an addict that make it easier to understand and deal with. I will continue to go as long as it takes.
Avatar f tn occupational therapy 4xs a wk, I’m going to have to go to speech pathology for therapy – to make sure I don’t start to aspirate when I eat/drink. Anyone else have problems like this? Thanks!

Avatar f tn Pathology report shows infiltrating mammary carcinoma, no special type, low combined histologic grade, Low proliferative rate with apocrine cytology, measuring at least 6MM in greatest extent (best measrued on P63 IHC Slide) Calponin and P63 show absence of myoepithelial cells int he neoplastic tubules, consistent with an invasive interpretation. Immunohistochemical studies for estrogen receptor and progesteron receptor are negative. My questions: No special type? What does that mean?
Avatar f tn Have you thought about getting a referral from her pediatrician to get her tested for autism? If she does have autism, the diagnosis open's new doors. ABA seems to be the route that most parents of children with autism go. I have heard alot of great things about ABA but haven't tried it yet because of costs. There is also floor time and some others I can't think of at the moment.
Avatar f tn ewford thanks for your input. No heart skips or chest pain. IBS symptoms over the last few years. UTI uncommon. Sensitive to noise- was in the GP surgery recently and could barely tolerate noise of someone texting beside me! Here tonight with family at family dinner and, as the day has gone on, I feel 'weird'. Sometimes feel as if legs will buckle, speech fine but sometimes have to think carefully what I'm speaking,as if speech slightly difficcult. V. weird.
Avatar f tn My son just turned two and I was worried about his speech. I spoke with his pediatrician who set me up with a speech therapist. He sees her next week to evaluate him. He could have a speech delay. My son speaks a few words but is not putting sentences together. He is also very smart and can watch you do something once and he knows how to do it. Id talk with his doctor and set up an Appt with a speech therapist that is specialized in children.
Avatar f tn Btw, getting a birth to three person can help with speech. He should qualify for speech therapy which does not mean he has autism.
Avatar n tn Hi, Brain injured patients may receive rehabilitation that involves individually tailored treatment programs in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physiatry, psychology, and social support. A complete physical and neurological examination is needed in each treatment program. It would be best to discuss which treatment option is best for you with your doctor for proper evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn There are different reasons for articulation problems. Sometimes it is just a speech delay and speech therapy can correct this. Or it could be a oral motor problem related to the sensory system. (my son has sensory integration disorder and was diagnosed at 4). How are the other parts of your son's speech? There is receptive and expressive language that are really important as well.
325405 tn?1262290178 t believe she is pushing drug therapy here. I think she is supporting you for the speech therapy. As far as pushing the other stuff, I haven't seen her other posts to know where she stands.
Avatar f tn things that were already learned. This could involve physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech thereapy, etc. However, your daughter needs to be evaluated to see what areas she needs assistance with. Another possiblity would be to as the student services department at the university for assistance. You may have better luck with the neurologist/neurosurgeon though, since they are very familiar with brain injuries.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I'm glad you gave an update from your speech therapy visit. It sounds like you have a good one and hopefully you will find the right combination of food consistency and flavor. I am picking up my afo next week - maybe we can compare notes. Mine is non-hinged, so I doubt i can sleep in it. I am getting it to stabiize my foot while my foot stress fracture heals. Do you happen to have any of those black boots they often give for foot injuries?
Avatar f tn Then the kids need support when theyre older and dont have it. My advice always is to enjoy your child. If youre concerned about speech you can get free speech services from the state or privately through insurance. You can do ALOT yourself. The first step is always communicating needs. You can do this with body language or words/sounds. Place something he WANTS out of reach. Dont dangle it. Say the word or the movement you want and repeat this. It works phenomenally.
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone- I'm new here, but I had a question about my 2 year old boy. He was diagonosed with PDD-NOS in August and he's been getting ABA therapy for about a month now. I was wondering if anyone has any great success stories with ABA. I know he's been getting only a month, but already I'm getting a bit frustrated. Before he started ABA, he has gotten 6 months of other therapy- speech, special instruction and physical therapy along with his twin sister.
676912 tn?1332812551 He doesn't have speech therapy. He's five years old. He speaks clearly, and has a huge vocabulary, normal for his age. I'm not 100% sure about all of it, but I know it has more to do with his brain and comprehension.
Avatar m tn It’s never too late for speech therapy. Just go to a clinic that specializes in stuttering therapy. Not every SLP will have experience in this area as our field is quite broad. They will come up with treatment techniques that is best suited for your need!
Avatar f tn Is your son receiving speech therapy? I think that is the most important thing for him to improve his language. If he is already getting speech therapy, maybe he needs it more often.
