Avatar f tn HELLO:) I am getting ready to go have a mammogram and an ultra sound done on the lump under my arm. It's costing me $400.00 for this since I have no insurance and don't have the opportunity to get it again until January 2011. I know that having a biopsy is the next step. I understand there are 2 or 3 different procedures. My question is... Can someone tell me about how much I can expect to pay for a biopsy. I'm sure the cost varies from state to state.
Avatar f tn Anyone else weigh themselves at home and get a completely different number when you step on the scale at the doctors office.. Ahh it bothers me. Past pregnancys I have gained 40lbs and I'm trying to control how much I gain this time around. pre pregnancy I was 150 (according to MY scale). I weigh myself on a daily basis and have been at 152 for awhile (ill be 15 weeks tomorrow). Well I went to the doctors and stepped on their digital scale and got 158.
Avatar f tn The pink TOTALLY blanched with pressure and the scale may very well have been related to the fact that I frequently picked at it to get to an ingrown hair that often appeared under the skin. The pink area appeared to be vascular in nature -- ie, it was just like there was increased blood flow to the area and the area was NOT raised or thickened at all. It was just a little pink. The pathology report freaked me out and I'm afraid that I really have an amelonotic melanoma.
Avatar m tn "What does this scale mean : modified ISHAK HAI 5/18, stage 2/6 ." It is basically the same score as the Metavir score just on a different scale, if you want to veiw this scale follow these links (the charts don't copy and paste) http://www.hepatitis-central.com/hcv/biopsy/modified2.html http://www.hepatitis-central.com/hcv/biopsy/modified.html http://www.hepatitis-central.com/hcv/liver/scoring.
Avatar m tn s thyroiditis have tongue issues that has/had an impact on your speech? I have the scalloped appearance to my tongue, a swollen feeling near the back and underneath the tongue which affects my speech. Did the thyroid meds fix the problem and if so, how long did it take?
Avatar f tn Generally stage four indicates cirrhosis, and in this case your MELD score bears that out. You could ask your doctor specifically which pathology scale was used to describe your fibrosis; Ishak, Metavir, etc... Have you undergone antiviral therapy in the past? What are you currently doing to remedy your liver disease and how are you managing?
Avatar n tn There are several different scales used, but the most common currently in use in North America seems to be the Metavir scale. It uses a scale of 0 through 4; 0,1,2,3 are considered to be fibrosis, with stage 4 cirrhosis. There are also systems that use scales of 1-6, so it’s important to determine which method pathology is using. If you haven’t already, take a look at the following site: http://janis7hepc.
Avatar n tn Does the report also list numbers for stage and grade? Normally biopsies yield a pair of numbers, both on a scale of 0-4. A low numbers indicates a low degree of liver damage and progress, higher numbers are more serious. The text seems to indicate mild liver damage. Most of us folks on the board go by our numbers because this sort of text is hard to follow. For example, I'm stage 2 grade 2 which indicates moderate liver damage.
Avatar n tn A +2 or +3 is considered normal, but a +4 or +5 (if they use a 5-point scale) is pathological (brisk, hyper). One thing I know my hyperrflexive knee jerk exhibits is a bounce or two on the way back down, in addition to kicking up pretty high. Those extra bounces indicate pathology. But look for Quix's post. It's really informative, as usual.
Avatar f tn I was told by the Pathology Director that positive is positive. The ER/PR+ tumors represent a less aggressive type of cancer as they are hormone dependant.
Avatar m tn I looked at about 20 online sources trying to find the rating scale. Looks like you have to pay money or get trained to find the scales. I did find a few sample reports. One said that a 81 was "Markedly atypical (indicates significant problem)". This was for a sub set score. So if your overall score was an 83, I would assume that the same analysis as the 81 would be accurate. And of course, this is just a test. Was it the short form or the long form?
Avatar n tn But he does have speech problems and may need gromets. The waiting list is over a year long to see a specialist for this. I know that children with hearing problems can have behaviour problems but I feel that it is more than this. This child makes friends but really plays his own game within the game played by the larger group of children. If he doesn't want to have morning tea when Kindy is having it he will refuse and then wants it when he decides he is hungry.
Avatar f tn So, around this time last year I experienced tingling in my left hand that lasted for a few days, coupled with extreme fatigue. Days later, I developed nystagmus only upon waking that lasted for about 10 minutes or so. That eventually went away after about a month. About six months later I had a severe headache that migrated to my right eye and lasted for over a week. Went to an optometrist, no optic neuritis.
Avatar f tn re not familiar with the liver, histology, pathology and all the medical terminology that goes with it, any explanation I might give probably won't mean much to you and could confuse you more. It's great to learn what it means (eventually) but the short of the long.... His biopsy shows his liver is inflamed at "Grade 1", which is minimally inflamed (good news) and that there is Grade 2 fibrosis (hardening of the liver tissue) and that's pretty good news, too.
2023006 tn?1328791751 Im not sure how long it lasts, but I always pay more attention to inch loss and the way my clothes fit versus the scale. Sometimes it can take a while for it to catch up with the scale. I find that I get discouraged when I see the scale go and stay up despite the fact that I look thinner and have lost inches.
Avatar f tn Next time pay attention to how the nurse takes your weight. Mine uses a triple beam scale where you move the pieces back and forth and she's not exactly careful about it so I'm sure it's off. Hers says I've gained 3 lbs and mine says I've lost 3 this last month. I've been weighing myself weekly at home with a digital scale and tracking it on here so that's the one I trust. If your doctor gives you grief, bring it up and show her your tracking.
362809 tn?1233506554 Woo hoo. I made it. My temperature was just where it was supposed to be. However, the surgeon ended up taking a LOT more out than he initially thought he was going to and the surgery took twice as long so my poor husband and 24 year old daughter were freaking out. I'm waiting, of course, for the pathology to come back to see how much of what he took out was cancerous. It's so weird going through this again after 22 years.
Avatar m tn I have had a fine needle biopsy and the pathology showed a proliferative lesion. The report recommends either a stereo biopsy or conservative excisional biopsy. The doctor explained that it doesn't not appear cancerous, but recommends an excisional biopsy so that I don't have to keep having additional testing or worry about this area. I'm already freaking out about doing this. I know that there are women going through far worse and here I am stressing about this, but I am.
Avatar n tn d just like to know a ballpark of about how much this could potentially cost... Have you had a similar procedure, how much did you pay (with or without insurance)? Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn Pathology report shows infiltrating mammary carcinoma, no special type, low combined histologic grade, Low proliferative rate with apocrine cytology, measuring at least 6MM in greatest extent (best measrued on P63 IHC Slide) Calponin and P63 show absence of myoepithelial cells int he neoplastic tubules, consistent with an invasive interpretation. Immunohistochemical studies for estrogen receptor and progesteron receptor are negative. My questions: No special type? What does that mean?
