Avatar n tn My son was born at 37w1d , he decided he wanted to stop breathing & coded and needed CPR & a CPAP cap, evidently he was transferred to a hospital with a NICU, he had the same issues with the not eating right, he was being gavage fed every 3 hours from an NG tube.
Avatar m tn s thyroiditis have tongue issues that has/had an impact on your speech? I have the scalloped appearance to my tongue, a swollen feeling near the back and underneath the tongue which affects my speech. Did the thyroid meds fix the problem and if so, how long did it take?

Avatar f tn Any moms that have their newborns in the NICU? How are you coping with this situation?
Avatar f tn I'm 37 weeks but for the last three I've measured small and have had limited movement. They keep having me come in and do ultra sounds and non stress tests, they said my baby girl is in the lowest 10 percentile of weight does this mean when she's born she'll have to stay in the nicu Until she puts weight? Or will they let her come home?
Avatar n tn My daughter was in the nicu for 2.5 months. Not exactly same circumstances. But great outcomes I would say. She came home completely healthy. It's normal to be scared. I started pumping as soon as she was born. She didn't eat for about 3 weeks. But as soon as she was able to have some they had my milk stored at the hospital. I was able to try putting her on my breastfeeding but she wouldn't eat that way. Either way I breastfed her for 1 yr 3 months.
Avatar f tn m 26+6 pregnant right now and have known for awhile my baby will more than likely have to spend a week I. NICU this is my third baby and my first time dealing with this with my first he got to leave the hospital two weeks before I did and with my second I didn't let her leave my sight our whole stay which was just 2 days. I'm trying to prepare myself mentally and am terrified I want to breastfeed and spend as much time with my baby girl she will be my last.
Avatar f tn t make it to full term and that makes me sad because I will be facing having him in nicu for a while instead of bringing him home same day. I really do hope things go well facing nicu or icu for a child is scary and not easier once there.
3178444 tn?1348441829 Nicu nurses are amazing! Tucker has been released from nicu into pediatrics, so that is good.. Haven't pinpointed the infection yet, but the antibiotics are working! He is under the photo therapy light now cus his jaundice wasnt so good.. I'm so tired and all I want to do is hold my baby and take care of him without a ton of wires attached to him or be afraid I'm gonna accidentally bump his Iv line.. Can't wait till we get to go home..

Avatar f tn I just have a couple questions for the moms that had their baby early and they needed to stay in the nicu. How early did you have him? And how long did he/she have to stay at the hospital? Also, how long did they keep you there? The normal two days? Or four days because of a c-section? Longer? I would appreciate any and all advice!
Avatar f tn She basically told me that i will more than likely have the c-section @36 weeks but since the babies r so small then it might be @34 weeks and that no matter which date my babies will go in the NICU till what was supposed to be my due date! Im super hurt and upset @the thought that my babies wont come home with us i wont leave the hospital with out them! But im confused since they are small why would they take them earlier???
Avatar f tn So I had my baby on Saturday and I went home Monday but my baby had to stay in the Nicu for a breathing problem. The doctor thinks it could be an infection in his lungs so he is on antibiotics for three days and then they will do another test. His chest x ray cane back clear and the nurse said hopefully I'll get to take him home soon. He's such a little trooper getting poked all the time. He smiles when I go see him and I s it there and let him sleep on my chest for hours.
Avatar f tn t produced enough surfactant on their own its often given to them in the nicu. The nicu may sound very frightening but really they take amazing care of these babies and you will be shocked to see that your almost 35 weeker is probably one of the bigger/ healthier babies there! Also in some instances if they know you will go early they will give you steroids too in order to boost the production of surfactant in baby's lungs.
Avatar f tn Hi my sister-n-law had triplets and then another set of twins. All premie's and all with delayed speech. By age 2 they all had a speech therapist work with them because of weak mouth/tongue. Within a short period of time they all had advanced in their language skills. The therapist said with some mouth exercises they have really caught up. They are now 6 and 3 yrs old.
Avatar f tn I recently had another preterm labor and this time I managed to get my a copy of my pathology report and it mentioned that I had/have "Acute chorioamniotis, Immature Chorionic villi with edema and focal stromal hemorrhage" I just wish I knew what that meant...
335728 tn?1331414412 The only problem we have seen persist is speech- their speech pathologist from when they were 2 decided that they were having such problems because their brains were at the level of a 5-6 year old and their mouths were still just 2!! They were so smart that they relied on truncating every word into a sort of "verbal shorthand" in order to get out all the observations they were making!! Unreal!!
Avatar f tn So, around this time last year I experienced tingling in my left hand that lasted for a few days, coupled with extreme fatigue. Days later, I developed nystagmus only upon waking that lasted for about 10 minutes or so. That eventually went away after about a month. About six months later I had a severe headache that migrated to my right eye and lasted for over a week. Went to an optometrist, no optic neuritis.
Avatar f tn Pathology report shows infiltrating mammary carcinoma, no special type, low combined histologic grade, Low proliferative rate with apocrine cytology, measuring at least 6MM in greatest extent (best measrued on P63 IHC Slide) Calponin and P63 show absence of myoepithelial cells int he neoplastic tubules, consistent with an invasive interpretation. Immunohistochemical studies for estrogen receptor and progesteron receptor are negative. My questions: No special type? What does that mean?
Avatar f tn You can still request that your slides be read by another Pathology Lab. If you aren't seeing a Breast Specialist I suggest that you do so and this might help clear things up for you. I'm sure you are more than aggravated at how things have gone in the past. I'm not sure why the ADH wouldn't show up on Excisional Biopsy unless the area was so small that it was removed by the previous needle procedure/ OR/ the Excisional Biopsy did not include the area of ADH.
Avatar f tn t seen that as a test for dysphagia in any MS forum. It seems more relevant to get a barium swallow or speech pathology assessment. I've had so many tests lately, and spent so much time at the clinic, that I'd like to avoid this if it's not necessary. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Please consult doctor or get the X ray cervical spine done to rule out cervical pathology. Avoid thick pillows too and also get your blood pressure checked.
Avatar f tn Ladies it seems many of you think a baby will end up or not end up in NICU depending on weight or what week they are born. That is not the case! It is solely dependent upon if the baby has issues that require extra help or not. 40 week babies can need a NICU stay. Just a little information for all you expecting mommies!
Avatar f tn I wasn't an NICU baby but I had to be treated at birth the same as your son. I was born on due date but weighed 5lbs 3ozs and couldnt suck or breathe at same time. After a week I was fine once I'd mastered the art.lol.Oddly enough my birthday is also the 4th May!!
Avatar f tn My daughter had Apnea she kept forgeting to breath. ive never heard of Bradys.. But she was in the NICU for 3 weeks. She had to go a straight 5 days without forgetting.
