Avatar n tn He also uses delayed echolalia in his speech. And he has Semantic Pragmatic Speech Disorder. So his speech development is typically autistic. However my son is very affectionate. It is not true that those on the autistic spectrum are unaffectionate. Some don't know how to show affection, others do. My son hugs me and tells me he loves me. Look at the diagnostic criteria, and if you still have concerns I would ask for a referal.

White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said Thursday morning that Obama would finish his remarks before kickoff, which is set for 8:30 p.m. EDT.” http://news.

Avatar f tn Hi again, "Aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. But brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma, from brain tumors, or from infections. Aphasia can be so severe as to make communication with the patient almost impossible, or it can be very mild.
Avatar f tn You have what is called an "expressive disorder". It may be what is called apraxia. Needless to say you require an immediate dye contrast MRI and a consultation with a facility that has neurologists available to review your disorder. A teaching hospital is a good place to find this expertise. Yes, something is wrong. It may be serious and it may not be. Sometimes these problems are due to destruction of impingement on a specific area of the brain by a tumor.

Avatar m tn I am a 19-year-old girl who has been experiencing trouble when finding words. It started 4 years ago, sometimes I could not remember the name of a specific word or I would remember the first letter of the world but not the entire word. I didn't really think much of it as it was not that frequent. But as of lately, it has been getting worse. For example, the other day, I could not remember the word "dishwasher" and I had to describe it instead.

Avatar m tn There are three parts of speech--- articulation (making the sounds) is one we all think of with speech. but there is also receptive speech (the ability to take in and organize what is said to you so that you can understand it) and expresssive (the ability to formulate the thoughts you want to express, to organize those thoughts into words to speak). Motor planning has a huge impact on these speech componants.
5549102 tn?1376522673 Almost 22 months old he's started saying words I understand him, but he doesn't really say them correctly. Should I worry. When he says drink he pronounces it ju. Instead of bath he says bah with the sign language. He isn't deaf and he passed his hearing test. Should we put him in speech therapy or wait it out until he's older and starting to form sentences? He does pronounce some words very well like cat dog mawmaw pawpaw daddy. Momma if you can get him to say it bye.
